I found this new and hopefully useful website with a lot of SF4 matches from top players, enjoy :)

Dude, this is pretty awesome. Thanks for posting :)

Okay guys, I just had a crazy idea. I'd like to start something called "From the Ground Up Project." The idea is pretty simple: we all agree to learn a brand new character from the ground up, and then we talk about our progress (or, even better, post match vids) in here.

Here's the twist: we don't get to choose our own "ground up" character. Instead, the guys who post in here regularly (martial, kreatzion, DC, me, King9999, among others) have a pow-wow and discuss just who everyone should try.

The rules are pretty simple. If you agree to be a part of the project, then A) you have to help decide who everyone else should pick up, and B) you have to agree to play ONLY the character chosen for you for AT LEAST one calandar month. That you'll continue playing SFIV regularly is a given.

I promise you all, if you agree to this, I'm going to put a LOT of thought into who I nominate you to main for the duration of the project, and the goal will be to twofold. Number one, I hope I can help point you in the direction of a character that will help step your overall game up. Number 2 (lol...), I'm gonna try to straight mind-**** you. You've been warned.

So, who's with me?

I like it. I've got a bad feeling about this, seeing as how I only use one character. Count me in. I've always been curious about El Fuerte. I've never really used him before. I hope he's my pick. 8)

So far it's just you and me, bro, but **** it, I'm still down. Let's give it a couple more days to see who else might come along, and then we'll go all-in, cool?

I don't mind doing this. I'm pretty much on the cusp of dropping this game altogether because I absolutely hate SFIV. This might reindle my spirits for the game. The only thing I ask is to not pick a console exclusive character for mebecause I do a lot of training in the arcade and this will hurt my training if done so.

Prodigy_basic

not to be a jerk, but isn't "hate" too strong a word to describea game that you play (and train for) every weekend?

anyway, i love my fighting games (best form of competition in videogames, as far as i'm concerned), but i love my racers, action games and FPS as well so i haven't played SFIV in a while, instead paying attention to stuff like shadow complex, wipeout hd and uncharted...so i would probably be out for this project...does anyone know if this "dash" update can be done online or will we have to repurchase the game? i haven't been keeping track of the game lately so i'm not sure of the improvements being made, any new characters, etc....

"Hate" is, I think, the perfect word. I use it to describe my feelings towards SFIV all the time. But I don't deny that I also love it. It's a really hard thing to explain, lol, so I won't try. Anyway, it's not my place to speak for Kreatzion, so I won't do that either.

As for Dash, if it comes out (and it's basically confirmed), it'll be its own full-on retail release, and it'll be priced accordingly. It's easy to look at that and think of it as double-dipping on Capcom's part (and believe me, I've been very hard on Capcom about this), but in reality, this is the old tradition. It happened before, in the forms of Championship Edition, Hyper Fighting, Super Turbo, et al, even if you didn't realize it. Dash is just an extension of that.

There's no telling what we can expect from Dash, but chances are it'll feature some pretty hefty overhauls, and not just a few minor tweaks of SFIV. I'm taking this insight directly from DarkCatalyst, who expects more of a Hyper Fighting type of transition, where the characters got new tricks to work with (Chun's fireball, shoto's air Tatsumaki's, and so on). Personally, as long as they don't replace the current problems in SFIV with new ones, and instead just make things a little bit better, that'll be fine for me. When it comes right down to it, SFIV is just a relative few minor tweaks away from being STELLAR.

...and perhaps that explains the love/hate feeling guys like Kreatzion and I have for it.

Well, bro, all I can say is that you've ultimately got control over whether you play along or not. I think that if you limit the choices down to who you will or won't play - just like with DC - it pretty much takes the purpose out of the whole project.

Call it, bro. Be in, or be out. To be honest, I don't see what you have to lose either way since you're almost done with SFIV anyway, you know? Maybe you'll wind up getting tagged with a console character. Maybe not. If it doesn't work out in the end, then what's lost?

As for me, if we decide to go through with this (so far we have Haterade, me, and a possible Kreatzion on board, and I'll bet that, at the very least, Martial will be down too), you guys can do your worst. Sky's the limit. You know who I currently play, pretty much all of you have played against me and seen my style, so take that into consideration and throw me your best curveball. Seth, Viper, Dan, I don't care. Let's just see who all is on board before we make any calls.

That's the spirit, Haterade! Though, something tells me we're gonna veer away from El Fuerte for you, lol. Let's give the idea some time to spread before we settle in on choices, though... I need time to think how best to do this to (I mean, "for") an El Fuerte player, lol.

Come on, DC, where's your sense of adventure? It's not like you'd come back after a month and be like, "OMG, I can never use Akuma again!" If anything, it'll make your Akuma stronger Besides we already know that SFIV is only a temporary thing anyway, because if Dash comes out and is superior or equal, that's our new baby. And if Dash comes out and is worse, both games get dropped.

DarkCatalyst

Some players can work that way, some can't. I have to do whatever I can to maintain my rhythm once I establish a good one, and making any drastic changes right now would risk derailing everything. It's not like SFIV` is going to come out and feel like playing a completely different game. A lot of what we know right now will carry over, and I'm not willing to commit to an experiment that would allow any amount of rust to develop. The most I'd be willing to do is take up a secondary of Rufus, Bison, or a last try at Abel.

I feel ya. If it'll really eff you all up, then sure, I'd rather you pass on this too. But, take it from someone who's just gotten through doing a miniature version of this on his own time - this thing can have surprising results. I mean, look at the strides I made in the areas of execution, footwork, and patience by picking up Sakura - a character that, once upon a time, I never would have DREAMED of using. If I'd just stuck it out with, say, Gouken, and never forced myself out of my comfort zone, who's to say I'd have ever made these strides?

That being said, there's a fairly good chance, here, that you did a lot of this experimenting back in the days when I was just playing a bit of SF in the living room with my one or two friends who also kinda-sorta played, so this whole thing might be out of your system already. To be fair, your execution, footwork, and patience have pretty much always been a cut above mine, so that may very well be the case. I feel I'm probably on even grounds with you as far as just SFIV, but in Hyper and HD, nah, you tend to outpace me pretty handily. Anyway, I digress...

Anyways, if you decide to play along after all, and I can only choose from one of those three characters, I'm intentionally going to vote on a character that will A) take you out of the Akuma-esque comfort zone (easy, since you can kiss air superiority and free corner escapes goodbye), and B) will be so drastically different from Akuma that you won't accidentally start splicing their styles together (in bad ways) when you go back to Akuma. So, considering those two things, Abel is the first choice, right off the top of my head. Rufus is interesting, though, so I'll have to give it more thought.

Hey Shen, nice use of Vega's Ultra. I'd be afraid to throw a fireball knowing you can pull it off on reaction like that.

King9999

Thanks, man. I actually put a concerted effort into getting that down, so I appreciate you taking notice.

Sorry guys, I'm gonna have to be lazy and just link you to my youtube videos page instead of listing out all the matches here. Uploading is taking forever as it is, so I don't really feel like poking through every match and linking them individually.

In any case, there are 3 Akuma vs. Akuma matches there, 3 Fei Long vs. Akuma matches, and a handful of really sweet Vega vs. Akuma matches, and more are on the way.

[QUOTE="Shame-usBlackley"]

I went in with exceptionally low expectations and walked away impressed, if not in the "sold" category. I was expecting a cheesy, innuendo-filled boob-fest with guns and a big-ass sword (a self-sustaining, although far too common combination) and while it definitely falls into that category, it also handles the action and gore stylishly and with panache. There's also quite a bit of Kill Bill in there for us Tarantino fans.

I don't see myself not picking this up when it comes out, and it might be my first pleasant surprise in what has otherwise been a pretty predictable year.

Thumbs up (so far).

Kreatzion

I feel you on that Shame-us. I knew about the game for a long time now and I honestly wasn't expecting much. After playing the demo, I left with a smile on my face and an urge to play more. Very few games leave me with that impression from a simple demo. Also, the music is great and it works well with the pace and action of the game. I personally don't like that type of music but for some reason in Wet, I'm all on it.

I watched GameSpot's preview video for the game, and I remember thinking Wet looked like a mindless mash-fest. Watching it sort of reminded me of that John Woo game... what was it again? Bullet Proof or something? I'm seriously not even going to bother to look, I thought that game was so awful.

Just the title alone, "Wet," is enough to annoy me. I can just imagine the yuppie marketeers looking in on the demographics like we're hamsters in a cage. "Ya know, guyth, I think the title needth to be thumthing provocotive... nevermind if it actually maketh thenth, it juth needth to be thekthy!" Sorta like the game Pure, which is about four-wheeling and gives almost no sensation of purity whatsoever. Bah. /rant

How-ev-er, I love being wrong about stuff like this, so if you say it's cool, or at least not horribly patronizing/borderline insulting, I'll give it a go.

So... Are you gonna give us links to the good ones then?

I'll post 'em front page if you want!

Phantom_Leo

Sho am. Trouble is, I've found I pretty much HATE the uploading process, so I keep being a lazy bum about it. But here's some Shen/DC Akuma vs. Akuma to hold you over :D
