Alright ya'll, here's the start:

Shen (VE) vs. DC (AK)
Shen (VE) vs. DC (AK)
Shen (SAK) vs. DC (AK)

Now, I will just say that these three battles don't tell the whole story for how the night went. It was a night full of BAD ASS matches - these just happen to be the vids I've uploaded so far. There is much more in the pipeline, and the outcomes are... much more interesting, to say the least.

Okay, so I just had another look at the Vega vs. Akuma matches that went down toward the end of our session, and... wow. The ones I linked to above are so lame by comparison, they probably won't even stay on YT. Think of them as an early sample. I don't want to blow things out of proportion or anything, but if you like a lot of mind games in your SF, you're probably going to like the matches I post later on. There's also gonna be some Fei Long c/o Shen in there, so that's not too shabby, I hope.

Also, I'm gonna be streamlining my YT page, so if any of you feel like chiming in on which vids should stay and which should go, please feel free. I think my old notion that I ought to post EVERY SINGLE VIDEO was a bit misguided, so I'm just gonna keep the cream. Input from you guys is certainly welcome.

Sorry I didn't accept your invite earlier, bro. DC and I were recording some bouts again, and I couldn't walk away. Good luck at the tourney, though. Keep us posted.

So yeah, look for some more DC vs. Shen here soon, guys. Akuma vs. Vega, Sakura, Akuma (WTF?) and, of course, Gouken.

Hey Haterade, that was a lot of fun, man. Your Fuerte is legit, just like DC said. I think if we'd have kept playing you'd have walked away with the most wins. I don't think I could successfully block a wake-up Tortilla Splat for $1,000,000, lol.

Next time we throw down, I'll do some more Vega just to see how it plays out, and then I'll throw some Sakura at you. GGs, though, once again.

I used to love MK3 when I was a kid, as well as Killer Instinct. But then, that was before I was really "in the scene," so I had no grasp of how broken KI really was.

That being said, if there was some parallel dimension in which Mortal Kombat and Killer instinct could coalesce into a really solid game, I'd be all for it. Between the fact that MK has long since abandoned gameplay in favor of gore, and KI, as DarkCatalyst put it, is just a broken system, I'm certainly not holding my breath.

I think a lot of people here have the right idea on this: let's see a competent KI first, and then we'll talk about entering it into a Vs. scenario.

I'm talking about how you can just double-tap down/forward, then push any punch button to do a dragon punch, instead of having to do the f, d, df motion. Not only does this completely fly in the face of a game that sports 1-frame links and super-precise timing to land punishes with Ultras (is this game supposed to be for beginners, or experts? Pick one), but it completely ****s me up when I don't deserve it. I'm not the only one, either.

I don't like that the game takes what I input, and the interprets what it thinks I might have meant. I'd much rather have mistakes come as a result of my shotty execution than because the game guessed wrong about what I meant to do. And yeah, anyone can say, "well, it must be your fault, when it comes right down to it," but when Sakura can somehow do an EX Otoshi (which requires a d, f, df + KK input) when I attempt her Ultra (qcbx2+KKK), something is wrong. Way wrong.

So you're saying that you prefer a much stricter control scheme?

Absolutely. Mind you, a dev could go overboard in that direction, too, making it so we need surgical precision to do our good ol' special moves. That would suck as well. I don't claim to know what Capcom did years ago that made my moves reliable (back with Hyper, ST, CvS2, 3S, et al), but I'd like them to go back to that.

I'd like to clarify that I don't hate the very existence of simplified controls, because if it works for some people without breaking the game, then cool - all good. It only pisses me off when the game registers my quick-step-forward, pause, fireball as a Shoryuken. Capcom thought they were doing me a favor with **** like that. They're not. They're making it so my moves don't come out right. If there were a way for the shortcuts and old-school controls to live in harmony in the same game, I'd be all for it. But if one had to go for the sake of the other... I don't think I have to say how I feel on this.

On a lighter note, I just finished up a freakin' marathon of SCIV with my friend Delo. I won 66-56. Good times. The game's got its problesm (Delo swears Yoshimitsu's counter is broken, lol), but by freakin' damn, it does the moves I want it to do. What a time.

I know this is random, but I want to make one point inescapably clear to all of you guys, because I value your opinions and input.

I am not a "fan" of SF, and especially not of SFIV. By that I mean, I won't just play it because it's SF.

That being said, if SFIV: Dash has input shortcuts, I'm dropping SFIV outright. It's complete bull****, and the only reason I still put up with SFIV at all is because I'm holding out hope that the next iterations won't be as ****ing stupid. Don't get me wrong, Dash doesn't need to be "perfect" by any stretch. But if Capcom uses the same input shortcuts in Dash that we have in this game (and I'm quite sure they will), then I'm walking away till they get it right. And if they never do get it right, then **** 'em. SF can go to hell in that case, and I'll pick up where I left off with Virtua Fighter 5 and Soul Calibur 4.

Bah. Enough hype, lol. Haterade, I'd like to get on and play you sometime man. I think you're the only GS regular on 360 that I haven't thrown down with. DC tells me you've got a legit Elf, so I'd love to take a stab at him.

LikeHaterade

Sounds good. I actually posted in your blog about playing you some time ago. :P

My GT is Defalto. Hit me up anytime big guy.

Really? LOL, my bad. I had so few responses to that, I stopped checking. I'll add you and see if we can throw down sometime this week.

Good times yesterday, Martial. Sorry I just suddenly split, but I had my good friend in chat who had been waiting for a long time to get some matches in. Anyway, that's kinda what it looks like when I use a quality stick. Different, eh?
