Alright, gotta let the battery charge, then I'll put the vids on the comp and start editing.

To anyone that's interested in watching, please bear with me. The software I'm using is new to me, so I might fumble about for a little while before I get these things chopped up proper. But... they're coming.

Oh, and DC. GREAT games ;)

[QUOTE="4NGoods"]Dont think for a sec that a stick will improve your game just b/c you have one. The learning curve isnt as flat as some may believe. I have the TE stick and although i enjoy playing with it, I can tell that my level of play has suffered. Also, i find myself not playing as much as i thought i would but i guess that goes back to how much i enjoy the game as oppose to how much i enjoy the hardware. As stated above, i wouldnt recommend buying one unless you're serious player. If you just play casually, then a controller or a lower end stick would be more adequate.DarkCatalyst
Generally, when a player transitions from a gamepad to a stick for the first time, there will be an initial (and sometimes very discouraging) drop in success, followed by a gradual and permanent improvement that will eventually soar well beyond anything they could've reached on a gamepad. It's something everyone has gone through except those who started out in the arcades.

I'd just like to cosign for this assessment. I was one of those people who struggled during the transition to an arcade stick. I swear by it now though.

Ah. I thought these were complete scrubs you were playing against. In which case I don't even bother playing smart, I just toss air fireballs all day until they get impatient, rush in, and start eating my combos. Did you know that running into the first of Akuma's EX Air Hadou can lead to more than 1/3 of your lifebar getting taken out? It's amazing how many players do this when they can't come up with a tactical way to approach. :DDarkCatalyst
I can't wait to get back in the game and see this Akuma. My Gouken was just getting to a seriously scary level when my sticks broke on me. I have a feeling we're in for some crazy, epic matches come April.

[QUOTE="Kreatzion"]

I have been in class all day and all I was thinking about is SFIV. I could not concentrate at all today and I took a mid-term on top of that. Now I'm home and I can finally play some SFIV. If anyone wants to play, hit me up online. I'm not totally sure which version to play but whichever one you see me in, send an invite.

Kreatzion

Dude, I'm dying to get on and play, but my freakin' sticks - both of them - are busted. I can't even take 'em apart and try to build one working one :(

*sniff*

Damn that sucks. No wonder I never see you on anymore. XBOX 360 sticks are so hard to come by. If I were you, save up for the Madcatz TE stick when it comes in circulation in April. I'm trying to do the same right now. I'm actually going to drop buying the DSi for now to get the stick.

Yeah, I heard it was about to be restocked. I hope it comes true in my lil ol' town. If so, I'll have one for sure. I'd have already bought the one off DC, but my daughter's turning 7 at the end of the month, so joystick money became telescope money. It'll be worth it.

Great advice, I got it! Thanks man. :) It's gonna take some practice though. How are Gouken's supers?

Rekunta

Right on man, glad I could help :)

Like DC said, Gouken's Super is essentially irrelevant compared to his EX moves, so I very, very rarely have it available for use, let alone actually throw it. His Ultra, on the other hand, is a monster since it is guaranteed out of his back throw.

For the life of me, I can't do Akuma's special or ultra.

  1. Shun Goku Satsu (Raging Demon): LP, LP → LK, HP
  2. Shun Goku Satsu: LP, LP ← LK, HP

Is there a special trick to this? Do I have to hold the joystick forward or backwhile hitting LK and then HP? Do I hit LK,HP together? I've tried every single combination and simply cannot get it to work. Any advice?

Rekunta

My guess is, you're probably going too fast. Believe it or not, you can go at a pretty moderate pace and get that Super/Ultra out. Try doing it this way: jump forward or backward, then time the inputs so that you hit the first jab at the peak of your jump and you hit Fierce Punch right when you land. That's about the right timing there, give or take, so if you get it right, you'll land and go right into SGS.

I don't think it matters where the joystick is when you start your first two jabs, but I almost always go from neutral, whether on the ground or in the air. Also, all of the inputs are done individually - no simultaneous presses at all.

It's a fighting game whether or not people accept it. And just so you people know if it wasn't a fighter then why was it on EVO. Last time I checked that's a fighting games tournament competition. Even though it's not traditional it doesn't change the fact that its a fighting game. Let's look at a game such as Metroid Prime where people who have never played the game would say its an FPS but in reality its an action adventure game.

[QUOTE="BladesOfAthena"]Why are people so adamant on having SSB labeled as a fighter? Is there some sort of negative connotation that comes with the word 'brawler'? The fact that it was kicked out of Evo is quite telling in itself.kage_53

It was kicked out of EVO because of a dispute with Smash fanboys and the people who run EVO. I could also easily spin your statement and say games like Capcom vs SNK 2, Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Virtua Fighter were kicked out of EVO too. Some games don't ever make it regardless of how good they are (looking at you KOF98, Garou: Mark of the Wolves and well a lot of other SNK games in general).

Evo also used to host Mario Kart DS and Halo 2. So uh... yeah. They're all fighting games.

My games of skill are Soul Calibur, Street Fighter, and Super Smash Bros, and a bit of Marvel Vs. Capcom, but I can usually beat experienced King of Fighters and Mortal Kombat players because the mechanics are very familiar despite my limited experience. If you're good at fighting games then you're going to have an advantage with SSB. If you were an experienced FPS gamer though and haven't dabbled into Smash, you're not going to beat a SSB player no matter how good at FPSs you are. The video you just showed had a Lucario that had no idea about the concept of recovery. With that crappy recovery, anybody can beat them. I have plenty of nonprofessional friends that I play Brawl and Melee with that will use recovery to their advantage and actually have moves that lead into combos, unlike the person in that video. I watched the other related videos and it was the same scrubs not knowing what they were doing. Any person that knew what they were doing would use metaknights quickness to own Ike's laggy repertoir, and in all the other videos all I saw was unadaptable players that spammed the same moves. The Marth seemed quite good but it can't prove itself against those players. I think you're playing against all the wrong people and no have this idea about Smash based on them.

R0cky_Racc00n

That's rich. The opponents are high enough level to make that decision. Eh, whatever. You just did all that talking, and Smash still isn't a fighting game. Works for me.

[QUOTE="DarkCatalyst"]My oponion is that wether it's a brawler, wrestling, or Street Fighteresque they're all fighting games, but maybe I'm wrong and there's a defenition written somewhere out there that if it doesn't follow a formula of being extremely close fighting then it's not a fighter. If that's the case, then Smash is not a fighter even though it plays out like one in several ways.

As for Evo, Smash was destined to fail there because Evo is ignorant on Smash. They made a tournament with items on and smash balls and no care for stages. You don't have to listen past their commentators to understand how ignorant they were. They had no idea what to do with Smash because they know nothing about it.

[QUOTE="ASK_Story"]

I noticed that a lot of those who argue Smash Brawl is a legitimate fighting game also claim Naruto Ninja Storm is better than Street Fighter IV. This is what I noticed from a recent poll I made about SFIV in System Wars. It also shows where their taste is at.

There's nothing wrong with having opinions or liking a game better than the other. I have no problems with that. It just irks me a little when they say they hate SFIV when they never even played it or took the time to learn how to play.

So in other words, debating about this will go nowhere. We can try to discuss this over 1000 posts and we still won't convince the Brawl fans to change their minds.

R0cky_Racc00n

Where do you get these ideas from? You're probably asking the wrong demographic and applying that to the whole community. I can't even believe this. I've played Street Fighter since Street Fighter II and almost all Smash fans I know appreciate Street Fighter.

I love that I can probably beat the snot out of the vast majority of the Smash-as-Fighter people who say things like this at Smash. As though, because I am smart enough to realize that Smash is not a fighting game (and it's all the better for it), I must not understand what Smash is all about. I actually kick a lot of heads off in Smash. So do you. Oh, and so does DeShae (who also realized Smash is not a fighting game). I can link to vids of DeShae - a die-hard fighting gamer - eating people alive in Smash, if anyone wants to know if I'm bluffing.

ShenlongBo

Any experienced fighting fan can probably pick up Smash and after 30 minutes figure out how to beat the very casual players. Let's see what you can do against those that know the depth of Smash and have experience in competitive matches. Anybody can brag like that over the internet, so your opinion means nothing.

You're right about what you said to DC. Your opinion on the matter has no bearing on the facts of the matter. Say what you want, there is a definition for what a fighting game is, so when it comes to objective ****fication, your interpretation... "means nothing."

As for what you said to me, yeah. Blah blah, right? I must be beating the "very casual players" only, and using that to base my assessment of my own skill on. For one, what I said was that I could probably beat the stuffing out of most people like you, and I say that because I have beaten the stuffing out of most people like you (the ones who won't let go of the fact that Smash is not, never was, and will not ever be a fighting game) who I've had the pleasure of playing against. This has included a legion of very strong Smash players (perhaps not the elite, but very strong), and there's really no doubting that when I mix it up with other Smash enthusiasts, I very often - almost always - come out on top.

Second, as promised, here's a link to ONE vid of DeShae (FieryLair) wrecking people on Smash, and this is one of the dudes I keep pace with. You flat do NOT see this at a "casual" level, whether you want to believe that or not. By all means, click through all his vids and see for yourself.
