[QUOTE="sammyjenkis898"]Wind Waker is the best Zelda game. I'm still waiting for a next-gen Zelda game that doesn't suck.Shinobishyguy

>impling TP and SS sucked

At the very least they were both great, if not overly amazing

TP and SS are average and both took too many steps back which the series started doing every game since it became 3d.

I disagree with many of you. Grinding and leveling are not what I find annoying about older rpgs (although I still like some of them) at all. I for one believe the number one problems with them were lack of descriptions of what items do, and giving you know clear, or at least being able to figure out where you are going. How the heck was I supposed to know that "You must bring the Gold pot to the pyramid" meant I had to not go to the pyramid, but stand looking at a picture of it in a random house, hope I stood there for 2 minutes, not give any hint I did it right, hope the wall in the museum was open, find a triangle next to another picture of a pyramid, and put the gold pot on the triangle? See, that's the kind of stuff you don't think of unless you have 700 years of patience. Also what the heck does "suprrtcept" do?

mario 64 revolutionized gamming... crash was nothing but a wannabe mascot for sony and did revolutionize jack.

Dudersaper
Sorry, you both are wrong. Neither revolutionized anything. Mario nor Crash did anything new at all.

I'm not even a fan of Mario, like at all, I dislike pretty much any of his games/spin-offs, and hate him as a character in SSB. But saying he didn't revolutionize gamming is just wrong. Even if you say Mario didn't do anyting new, his games are what brought lots of the popularity and inspired other games in the era, that's revolutionizing.

Such as?

The PS2 is almost 13 years old now and still selling only slightly below average, but in the thousands. Do you think the Ps2 will make it to 15(16?) years and beat the 2600 as the longest living console of all time?

Wow, the PS2 is the only console that gained this week. Can the PS2 last 14 whole years? [QUOTE="Spinnerweb"]Wow... Sales of pretty much every console have slumped. Well, at least it sold more than a Wii, not that it's a lifesaver or anything :P

Except PS2.

[QUOTE="charizard1605"]NO. The possibility of competition should always exist. A Nintendo monopoly in the handheld market will be very detrimental for me as a consumer.Shinobishyguy
they pretty much had a monopoly all the way up till the DS. Not a single handheld lasted more than a few years against them

Actually a lot lasted more than 3 years against them. That's why they countered with getting dev rights and games on their consoles, without competition, Nintendo will no longer try and we will be playing "Rumb the cats Tummy 3D" or "Mario jumps on a cat to reach the kitty litter 3D" or "DStimals, TIger edition."

[QUOTE="Andrew_Xavier"][QUOTE="rilpas"] that reminds me, I need to get some more DC games :Prilpas

I happen to live directly beside a video game store that only sells retro games...which is pretty awesome...also expensive. But yeah, I own a TON of DC games.

Nice, I only own roughly 12 dreamcast games, need to work on that :P

A ton is 10, you own 2 more than him. haha.

[QUOTE="Thenumber48"]So let me start with this: What makes, in the opinion of Nintendo 64 platform fans, Mario 64 better than say... Crash Bandicoot? Let's start with that.KBFloYd

[QUOTE="KBFloYd"]

[QUOTE="Thenumber48"] I like how this thread show that people don't know the definition of 3D so much now I have to join in. Crash is not 2.5D. Mario 64 did not start or invent 3D platfomring. In fact, the only games that continued to use how Mario used 3D platforming was the N64 platofrmers only. Only Mario games after the n64 have used that same style. Concepts where taken from it however. Also, I could have sworn you could move in all direction in crash, you sure you know what 3D is? Ok, whatever, judging by this thread, I am sure I did not better trying to convince people that Crash is 3D so i leave this to you Emerald people.

I said '2.5D with some degree of freedom'. It's clearly not 100% 2.5D, but even though you can move in all directions, you're forced on a narrow path, with little movement choice apart from the occasional split in the road. You cannot control the camera, you cannot explore any corner of a level and look at it from any perspective you wish. The levels in Crash are played mainly along a single axis in the 3D space, there is virtually no verticality. The feel isn't that of a 3D world, but of a constrainted 2D world rendered in 3D. Game genres aren't a black/white deal, there are shades of gray. So, as I said, Crash isn't a purely 2.5D game, but it's close r to that than to a 3D platformer.

You can control the camera just as much as you can control it in OoT so I guess OoT isn't in 3D. In Crash 3, there are many wider areas that allow freedom to explore. (and 2 as well although debatable.) There is vertically. Also, if having no big area to explore and having a non controlled camera is not 3D than Mario 64 is only 42% 3D since a large majority of the game is fixed camera angles, especially when running or climbing something sideways. Oh wait, I said I was going to leave this to that Emerald guy, darn now I am in the argument.
Ah, great. Now the debate on what kind of platformer Crash Bandicoot is going to be similar to the debate about Smash Bros being a fighting game.nintendoboy16
That argument doesn't even make sense to happen when it's clear it's not.

Well, I have owned all U.S. (no imports or other country exclusive games) released games for Genesis, SNES, Jag, and GBAAdvance. However, currently, unless they are rare, I am in the middle of removing pretty poor games from the collection. As for the next biggest one would be the PSX and Saturn with around 70 games each. My other systems are all around 50 with some in the 30's and below. No where close to my goal in my sig but I have at least 4 down if that's worth anything.
