RE Short Course exam

Today I was supposed to be taking my GCSE RE Short Course Exam, but when I sat down to start the first question I realised it was nothing to do with what I had studied. I then flicked through the whole question booklet and saw no questions that I could answer. I said to the examiner that I have the wrong paper, but she said they're all the same. Then a few other people complained and the examiners had a little meeting and announced that the school had received the wrong exam papers, but we still had to do this one. Apparently it was not possible to get the correct one so everyone had to do the ones given to us. The school sent a letter home to everyone's parents, explaining that our grades would be based on expected grades and previous exam results. I thought the whole thing was ridiculous, and the fact that most people had wasted two years learning the correct topics didn't seem to bother the examiners. I just can't believe how stupid the school or exam board was to mix up the papers, and then act like it was no big deal.

New profile banner

I thought I should change my banner, since I'd had my old LOTR one for quite a while. I thought I'd attempt something different, so I combined the banner with my blog image. It turned out fairly good, but I'm a little annoyed it cut half of Snake's face off, but it took so much messing around with photoshop to get what I've got so far. I really didn't feel like making such a small alteration, which would probably take a lot of time for something so simple.
As I said in my previous post, I'm currently sitting my exams, and so far I think I've done okay. Although I found the maths exam the hardest, which is usually my strongest subject, so I don't know what to expect for the rest. There's just one more week left before I've finished though, and then I can enjoy the rest of the summer, and perhaps look forward to getting my results.

Time for change

After posting almost thirty blog messages on Gamespot to date I realised that I had never written about anything other than football, and so I decided that the time had come when I should write about myself for once. I suspect that most of you will probably be glad to hear this.
Now for the difficult bit... I need to think of something to write about. Well, I do have a new signature which I am using on the forums, replacing my old Leeds United one. My new one is certainly a change from the usual football based sigs I've had in the past. If you haven't seen it yet, then you can do so by clicking this link here. It's not a bad sig to look at after every post I make, but perhaps you might think otherwise. Feel free to criticise it if you wish to.
I probably should go and do some revision now, seeing as my exams are in two days time, but I just can't seem to concentrate for more than fifteen minutes. I just don't know where to start either, especially when I need to cover a whole two years work for eight different subjects. I doubt I'll get much work done tomorrow either, as I'm playing in a seven-a-side football tournament.

So near, yet so far

The Premiership was so close for Leeds United, and all they had to do was win one final match against Watford. At half time Watford lead 1-0, and then scored a second with the luckiest goal of the season. The original shot was deflected twice before hitting the post, and then bouncing off Sullivan into the net. This goal destroyed the Leeds players' morale, and when they conceded a late penalty the Premiership dream was in tatters. Leeds now face one more season at least before they can return to where they belong.

Leeds reach the final

Before this game Leeds only needed to win two more games and they would be back where they belong; in the Premiership. After a tense first half, the score remained level and Leeds had managed to frustrate Preston, but showed little attacking intent. When half time came, the floodlights went out as a result of a power cut. This delayed the match by fifteen minutes, but Leeds had no trouble getting started. Ten minutes after the restart, Leeds took the lead, and deservedly so. Leeds dominated the start of the second half, and created more chances in five minutes than they did in the whole of the first half. The Preston crowd, who had been very confident before the game, were silenced as they saw Rob Hulse rise above everyone else to head the ball in from a corner. Only five minutes later, Leeds had doubled their advantage, thanks to more excellent work from Hulse. He managed to find Richardson unmarked at the far post, who controlled the ball before placing it into the net. Despite being reduced to nine men before the final whistle, Leeds managed to hang on for a 3-1 win on aggregate. Leeds are now in the playoff finals, and only need to win one more match before they are back in the Premiership.

Lewis keeps the dream alive

The whole season so far had been leading to this game, and nothing previous to this mattered anymore. With the biggest crowd of the season at Elland Road, Leeds knew that they had to make the home advantage count. Not long into the game Leeds should have had a penalty, but only the referee, and the Preston manger of course, thought otherwise. The Preston defender, not looking at the ball, crashed into Kilgallon in the penalty area, preventing him from winning the ball. To make matters worse, Preston scored a lucky goal before half time. Leeds will have to say they didn't defend well, but when Kelly had his foot on the ball and the Preston striker poked it into the net, you knew Preston had luck on their side. After half time Leeds made their substitutions, and Blake, who had just entered the field of play, won a very important free kick. Lewis stood over the ball and curled it perfectly into the top corner to make it all square. The former Preston man will enjoy that moment for many years to come. The score would remain the same until the final whistle, and even though the Preston manager jumped for joy at the result, it was obvious that no team had any real advantage over the other. If anything, Leeds showed that they can play well on the big occasions, and showed great spirit to fight back when it could have all gone horribly wrong.

Leeds to play Preston in the playoffs

After losing 2-0 to Preston in the final game of the season, Leeds now know that they will face Preston again in the playoff semi final. It was a very different Leeds team who lost to Preston though, as most key players were rested. Watford drew to Hull, which was enough to keep them in third. Preston's win against Leeds means that they finish fourth, dropping Leeds to fifth. While Crystal Palace lost to Sheffield United, as they occupy the final playoff place.

Healy ends Leeds' poor run of results

It was important that Leeds ended a successful season with a win during their last match at Elland Road, against Crewe, so that they would have some momentum going into the playoffs. After dominating the first half, Leeds failed to score, which had become a common occurrence in recent weeks. It seemed as though another draw would be the result, but David Healy had other ideas. He scored his second goal in as many games, thanks to Kelly's cross which he headed past the helpless goalkeeper. That goal, scored with fifteen minutes left, was enough to seal the win for Leeds. Although Leeds were already guaranteed a playoff place before this game, it was great to see them return to winning ways at last.

Resilient Leeds fight back

It seemed a couple of months ago that this would be the deciding match; a match which would determine who would achieve automatic promotion. However, due to Leeds dip in form at the vital part of the season, it would only be for bragging rights. The fact that this match was effectively a friendly didn't prevent the players from lunging in with a few vicious tackles, picking up yellow cards in the process. Going into the playoffs with players suspended is the last thing Leeds need. With only ten minutes on the clock the deadlock was broken, and it was a Leeds player who scored. The only problem for Leeds was that Bakke had scored in the wrong goal, giving Sheffield the lead. Leeds refused to give up though, and with three minutes left before half time, David Healy scored a superb individual goal. From outside the area, he fired the ball with his left foot past the helpless keeper; his thirteenth of the season. In the second half Leeds applied all the pressure, but never really looked threatening. Douglas did have a good chance to win the match, but his shot went high and wide. A 1-1 draw was a fair result in the end, while Leeds denied Sheffield the icing on their promotion party cake.

Yet another draw

Everyone knew that this game was going to be a tough challenge for Leeds; after all they were playing Reading, the champions of this division. Most people would have said that this game was a foregone conclusion, as Leeds have failed to score in their last four games. However, this was not to be, because Leeds took the lead two minutes after half time, thanks to Rob Hulse. Despite this, Leeds could not hold on for the win as Reading scored with five minutes remaining. Leeds are now without a win in seven games, but it is hoped that they will find good form during the all important playoffs.
