OK, first of all, from now on I'm gonna write in BLUE! Oh, and sorry to Aerobie for deleting my previous blog. I decided not to make a full blog after on this article(yes, it's a clickable link. Clicky click!) by Carolyn Petit. There are plenty of gamers who posted comments there that I agree with, all of them starting somewhat like, 'Anita is a fail.' OK, maybe not that, but this article, from Sam Fisher to Gabe Logan (I always wanted to say that, hah!), was extremely sexist.
Hehe. I think this is one of the most annoying things in discussing games. There are complex female characters, and either people who don't think so hear only from perverts or clearly have never checked out anything about a game except the cover. Lara Croft's Tomb Raider reboot IS almost all about character development. Most men in video games are pretty much the same, anyway - big muscles and witty one-liners. Sure, there are cool ones like Leon Kennedy and Naked Snake and Sam Fisher, but in first-person games in particular the male protagonist has almost no character. As for them being sexualized, it's mostly what players make of them rather then what developers mean them to be. Lara was one ugly, fearless, memorable hag before Tomb Raider legend. As for them being damsels in distress - then what about fairy tales and all? Now what, the princess rescues the knight? I'm not saying women should be all helpless in video games (and they're not mostly, just look at Raine Bouchard in Resistance: Retribution), but really, a guy being a damsel in distress would be far, far worse. Ashley's character would have been just as annoying if she was a guy because of what she'd been through (she's one annoying b****, but Resident Evil 4's still a beautiful game) and I guess Janzen in Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror IS the equivalent of Ashley in Resident Evil 4 - people just don't notice it about men, for some reason.
And men are just as stereotyped, objectified, sexualized... They just don't get worked up over it. (Notice that there is no such word as masculinist in the dictionary) For every real-character male protagonist in a video game, there are ten who are just walking muscle. I've read in plenty of gaming interviews (the Metal Slug: Anthology interview, although of course they're not serious) developers wanting to put in male characters just to get more female fans.
Video games having more male leads is not sexism - most video games have men kicking the s*** out of other men. If a video game has women kicking the s*** out of men, or men kicking the s*** out of women, that's sexism. All in all, things are OK right now and if a video game CAN have a good balance of male and female characters (like Valkyria Chronicles!) then why not? But even if it don't, it's fine. There are enough characters of each gender. And games aren't meant for just one of either gender as some trolls said in the comments. They're only not meant for people who take them seriously. I doubt this Anita woman even played any game. And by the way, thanks for the support with my trolling, Whitebloodsun. Too bad you said you're leaving next week. You're so nice. Dangit. :(
On a more cheerful note, Gungir for the PSP has been released. Yay! :D

This game does look great. I have to have this.
Since I'm playing through the Splinter Cell series and sobbing uncontrollably over the lack of a Valkyria Chronicles 3 localization (there's some good news on that, I'll get on to that in a minute) I finished Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow yesterday (tomorrow yesterday, hah! :P ) and I hearted every second of it. Splinter Cell is one of my favourite series.

Oh, and I'm glad Splinter Cell: Blacklist which was announced at E3 is bringing back stealth elements because Stealth Action is my second favourite genre. I'm pretty interested in Blacklist. However, I'm kinda disturbed by the 'Jadid Basecamp' screenshot. If this game has killing Pakistanis just because they're Pakistanis, then I'm abandoning the series. Just like I abandoned the Splinter Cell novels after the fourth one was anti-Islam. Not surprising considering the second author who wrote it was a troll. The novel is known for its spelling mistakes, grammatical errors and scene changes. Too bad since the first author was great.
Now for some happy news for Sega fans. Like me! :D

Yessum, fans of the game have started a fan translation(that's clickable link too... sorry)project. Hope they don't drop this because I want to play Valkyria Chronicles 3 in English. Yes I do.
Second of all, Sega Europe is not closing down(and that too, is clicky) as rumours have said. Yay! Go Sega! This should teach you a lesson - you've been given a second chance to localize Valkyria Chronicles 3 officially. NOW LOCALIZE VALKYRIA 3 OFFICIALLY!

I watched The Expendables, and it's such an awesome movie. While Jason Statham and Jet Li were awesome as always, the real star of the show was Stallone :D Can't wait to see how The Expendables 2 turns out.

Madagascar 3 was released a few days ago. I hope I get to see it in the cinema. The first movie is my favourite animated film and while I think the second was a little worse, I still loved it. Mort is so cute!
GameSpot's been broken for a few days, especially Fuse. In fact, it isn't even funny calling it the Fuse monster anymore and I think DangerousRobber had a good idea of brainstorming solutions in his blog. Sadly don't seem to me that anyone really cares enough for this. Maybe we can reform the Fuse Resistance group (inside joke only a few can giggle at) for this :P
Finally, awesome Sega fan work done by BluSonikuu - a Sega Genesis plushie, complete with plushy cartridge and plushy plushy controller.

Hope I haven't been a bore. Good luck to everyone with whatever they're doing.
