The first thing I need to do is figure out what a truly want to do. And I want to get out of this country, I want to move to another Country... Australia. I have always wanted to go there, and I'm truly starting to think about moving out there. For those of you who live there, and I know I have a few of you, but you have stopped paying attention to me after my zombie stories went bust. List the Pro's and Con's of your country.

The Shins
Not much on The Shins, but I'll try to make this as good as I can
The Shins are an indie rock group with elements of folk and alternative country on Sub Pop Records comprising singer, songwriter and guitarist James Russell Mercer, keyboardist/guitarist/bassist Martin Crandall, bassist/guitarist Dave Hernandez, drummer Jesse Sandoval, and Eric Johnson of the Fruit Bats. Their sound is commonly described as indie rock, drawing on several musical genres including pop, alternative and folk. The Shins are from Albuquerque, New Mexico.
They gained massive success after being both mentioned and played several times in Zach Braff's hit movie "Garden State" in 2004.
"Phantom Limb" is a song by American indie rock band The Shins, and is the fourth track on their third album Wincing the Night Away. The song was also released as the first single from that album in the United States on November 14, 2006 as a digital download and a week later on CD. On January 22, 2007, "Phantom Limb" was released as a single in the United Kingdom.
Songwriter and lead singer James Mercer described it as "a hypothetical, fictional account of a young, lesbian couple in high school dealing with the **** small town they live in."
The song, especially the coda, closely resembles the ****of The Jesus and Mary Chain's influential debut album Psychocandy.
Surprise, Surprise. Nothing on this song. This band of the day was quite lackluster, sorry about that you guys.
Band of the Day as of now, will be posted at 12:00.

Band of the Day: Modest Mouse (Early Edition)
by SpiritEmu on Comments
MODEST MOUSE
Hailing from Issaquah, Washington. It's today's Band of the Day.Modest Mouse is an American alternative band. The band was formed in 1993 in Issaquah, Washington by guitarist Isaac Brock, drummer Jeremiah Green and bassist Eric Judy. Since being signed to Sony's Epic Records in 2000, the band has attained significant popular success.
Brock came up with the name "Modest Mouse" when he read the Virginia Woolf stream of consciousness essay The Mark On the Wall in which the author described the working middle cla.ss as "modest, mouse-coloured people."
Brock frequently moved around with his mother when he was a child. Around this time, his mother left his father for his father's brother (Brock's uncle). Brock's mother's house flooded and forced them to move into his mother's new husband's trailer, but there was no room for Brock. Brock stayed behind, living in the second story of the flooded house, until he was eventually evicted by police. He then moved into a shed next to his mother's house and it is said this is where Brock, drummer Jeremiah Green and bassist Eric Judy first began playing music.
In 1994, the band recorded their debut EP, Blue Cadet-3, Do You Connect?, at Calvin Johnson's Dub Narcotic Studios, which was then released on Calvin's record label K Records. Then followed a single with Sub Pop that was recorded by Steve Wold at Moon Studios. After moving to Up Records Modest Mouse put out several releases recorded at Moon Studios, including 1996's This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About. This double LP was produced and recorded by Steve Wold, (at this time Steve Wold was a member of the band as well.) The next offering on UP was Interstate 8; also produced by Steve Wold. 1997's The Lonesome Crowded West, (also recorded at Moon Studios, by Scott Swayze) turned out to be the band's breakthrough album. The Lonesome Crowded West gained the band a cult following and is now widely considered by many critics to be one of the defining albums of mid-90s indie rock.
In 2000, Modest Mouse released The Moon And Antarctica, their first album on a major label (Epic Records). The band enjoyed some success on alternative radio with the singles "3rd Planet" and "Gravity Rides Everything." Lead singer Isaac Brock has since put out an album with his side project Ugly Casanova on Sub Pop Records.
In 2003, drummer Jeremiah Green quit the band; the official word was that he was quitting to work with his side project, Vells. He was replaced with two members, drummer Benjamin Weikel (who also drummed for The Helio Sequence) and guitarist Dann Gallucci (Murder City Devils). Weikel being new to the band and Gallucci returning to the band for the first time since This is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About. On April 6, 2004, Modest Mouse released the platinum-selling Good News For People Who Love Bad News, which scored two hits with "Float On" and "Ocean Breathes Salty". In 2004 Jeremiah Green returned to the band, and Benjamin Weikel now drums exclusively for The Helio Sequence. Dann Gallucci left the band in August, and they have been touring with Hutch Harris of The Thermals.
Modest Mouse was mentioned by name in the 2005 Supreme Court decision in the case of MGM v. Grokster. Justice Souter wrote that on the Grokster P2P network, "Users seeking Top 40 songs, for example, or the latest release by Modest Mouse, are certain to be far more numerous than those seeking a free Decameron, and Grokster and StreamCast translated that demand into dollars."
Latest addition to the band is former Smiths songwriter and guitarist Johnny Marr, now an official member of the band and featured on their new album, We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank. (James Mercer of The Shins fame is also featured on the album)
MM's newest Single from thier album, We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank. "Dashboard" is a song by American indie rock band Modest Mouse and is the second track on their 2007 album We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank. The song was released as the first single from that album and peaked at #5 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart. It debuted at #59 in the Billboard Hot 100 in early February 2007. In late May 2007, the song was released as a single in the United Kingdom with "King Rat" as the B-side. This single coincided with the band's UK tour.
Meaning of song: When you overdose on Dramamine, your thoughts and conversations are useless. Basically, your mental functions go around in circles. Also, your speech is slurred and your hearing is magnified at the time, so everything seems louder than usual. If you stare at a TV turned off, it can appear to be on and strange images might surface on the screen. If you do look at your face in the mirror while tripping, your face can appear to be altering, which might be why Isaac Brock sings, "look at your face like you're killed in a dream."
The lyrics are not detailed nor lengthy, leading to the notion that Brock was tripping on an overdose of Dramamine while conjuring up this song. The lyrics go in circles, much like thoughts are while on it. Also, the guitar structure in the song indicates the overall mentality while tripping on Dramamine.
Punk/Indie music often sends messages about getting around things, and Dramamine is a way around more expensive psychedelics. It is at almost every drugstore in America, and cheap too. The title can be seen as a reference to beating the system or finding an alternative way around things and then writing about those experiences.

Band of the Day 6/9: Beck
by SpiritEmu on Comments
Since it was a 2 to one vote against Beck and Modest Mouse, Beck wins, and Modest Mouse will be tomorrows. I'm thinking of taking this to the forums, but I'm not sure. I in no way typed this up. I used Wikipedia and last.fm.
Beck
Here it is. Beck.
The song starts with acoustic guitars and percussion. Then, unexpectantly, a bass guitar riff comes in and Beck starts rapping. The acoustic guitar and percussion section comes back in for the chorus. There is a piano melody played throughout the song. The song had been compared to the song "Hell Yes" off of his previous album Guero in terms of structure and musical ****
Hell Yes, or Ghettochip Malfunction, or GameBoy Variations, is a remix EP of several songs from Beck's 2005 album, Guero. The prominent feature of the EP is the persistent use of sound effects and tones generated from 8-bit or 16-bit video game systems, giving the songs a somewhat 'retro'/'chiptune' feel. The two artists who are responsible for the songs in the 4-song extended play are 8-Bit and Paza Rahm, both of whom are little-known artists. Paza Rahm, a member of a Swedish troupe of artists known as The X-Dump, creates solo works entirely based upon such video game effects as used to remix the songs to a fairly successful result. All that can be presented at this time on the matter of 8-Bit is the fact they pose as a four-member gang of android robots from modern-day United States Mexican-American ghettos. Both artists' solo work can be found for free on their respective sites.
About Beck:
Beck Hansen (born Bek David Campbell, July 8, 1970) is an american musician, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Beck's music, with its pop-junk culture collage of musical st/yle, obtuse, ironic lyrics, and post-modern arrangements incorporating samples, drum machines, live instrumentation and heady sound effects, was among the most idiosyncratic of 90s alternative rock. Though true his most popular albums were conceived in the 90s, Beck continues to inspire with his creative songwriting combined with his innovative production sty.le into the modern age of alternative.
Band of the Day: Radiohead
by SpiritEmu on Comments
Well, from now on I am doing a Band of the Day segment for my blog. I will have a vote for what should be tomorrow's Band of the Day. Ok, so today's band is.....
Radiohead
To start this thing off. I will list to songs and their videos. With a description from last.fm
Radiohead - Karma Police
About Radiohead:
Radiohead is a British musical group hailing from Oxfordshire. They are often praised as being amongst the most creative musical groups of their era, noted for their multilayered songs and often radical evolutions from album to album. They were also seen by some to have maintained a spirit of musical and political independence despite recording for EMI, a major label.
Formed by school friends in 1986, Radiohead did not release their first single until 1992. The cathartic "Creep", from their debut album Pablo Honey (1993), became a worldwide hit as grunge music dominated radio airwaves. Radiohead was initially branded as a one-hit wonder abroad, but caught on at home in the UK with their second album, The Bends (1995), earning fans with their dense guitar atmospheres and front man Thom Yorke's expressive singing. The band's third album, OK Computer (1997), propelled them to greater attention. Popular both for its expansive sound and themes of modern alienation, it has been acclaimed by critics as a landmark record of the 1990s.
Radiohead's original influences were alternative rock and post-punk bands like The Smiths, Pixies, R.E.M., Magazine and Joy Division. With their albums Kid A (2000) and Amnesiac (2001), the band reached their peak global popularity even as their music became less conventional, turning toward influences in electronic music, experimental jazz and avant garde ****cal, ranging from Autechre and Can to Charles Mingus and Olivier Messiaen. Although the band's recent albums have polarised listeners and failed to spin off major radio hits, Radiohead continue to be seen as figureheads in the music industry, drawing adoring crowds to their live concerts, influencing artists in many genres and enjoying surprising commercial success for a band of "outsiders".

First thing I can say about Muse is they are simply amazing. The vocals sound great, even though in this song it's more instrumentals in the beginning and the then the vocals start in the end, but the video is strange and awesome.
As the description says, Muse is Effing cool. Another great video to watch is Hysteria, but where am I to say anything. A 3 man with amazingness of a million, in my opinion, some of you may not like it. But you can slap me when it comes to me posting McFly.
Last.fm lists this for Muse, I did not in no way write it.
Muse are a three-piece band from Teignmouth, Devon in England. The band consists of Matthew Bellamy on lead vocals, piano, keyboard and guitar, Christopher Wolstenholme on backing vocals and bass guitar, and Dominic Howard on drums and percussion. As of the release of their fourth album, Morgan Nicholls has also appeared with the band at live performances to provide keyboards, samples/synth, and backing vocals.
In October 1999, Muse released their first full length LP; 'Showbiz'. The album received mixed reviews among critics, and music fans, labelling the band as 'Radiohead copycats'. This, however, did not stop the album from selling over 700,000 copies, with success coming from singles; Unintended and Muscle Museum. The album also earned Muse a nomination at the 2000 BRIT Awards, for Best New Act.
2001, with John Leckie behind the desk again, saw the release of Origin of Symmetry along with Top 20 entries for Plug in Baby and New Born. Muse followed up with a b-side/live CD/DVD named Hullabaloo Soundtrack, showcasing the band's concert from France in late 2001. To promote the album, Muse also released the Dead Star/In Your World EP, which charted high in the UK charts. Muse polished off their impressive year by winning Best Live Band at the 2002 Kerrang! Awards.
In 2003, Muse asked Rich Costey to step behind the desk to help create Absolution. The album had very strong sales all over the world, and helped the band achieve their first UK number 1 album. Its release was preceeded by a download-only single and online video for the song Stockholm Syndrome. Followed by the singles Time is Running Out and Hysteria, which charted well in the UK charts and helped Muse secure a headline spot at the 2004 Glastonbury Festival. Later that year, Muse toured the US, promoting Absolution, before returning home to play two sell-out gigs at London's Earls Court at the end of the year.
After a long and exhaustive tour, the band returned to the studio, and released Black Holes and Revelations in 2006. With the LP, the band secured their second UK album chart number one, whilst reaching the top spot in several other countries, as well as a Top 10 in the US billboard chart. The controversial single Supermassive Black Hole became Muse's highest UK entry in the charts, reaching number four, and also scored high entries in other countries. The album's second single, Starlight, reached number 13 in the UK charts in September 2006. The 3rd UK single was fan-favourite Knights of Cydonia, released on November 27th, and it reached number 10 in the UK charts. The 4th single from Black Holes & Revelations was Invincible, and was released April 15th 2007. It entered the UK singles chart at 21th place, and was the first single of the new album not to enter in the Top 20. On November 2, 2006, the band won an award for Best Alternative Act at the annual MTV EMA in Copenhagen. Muse were also named 'Best Live Act' at the Brit Awards in 2006 and have retained the title in 2007.
