Hmm I don't really want to insult the hell out of it ... well actually you're right I do, it has annoyed me so :DIf you want to insult the hell out of the FF series, focus on the plots and story mechanics.
Terrible Story: Again, how can you argue opinion? In my case, the quality of the story of latter FFs is really dependent on how well I like the characters. Example, FF8, maybe it had a good story in there, but all I can remember is hating how whiney and annoying Squall was. I hate that guy. Thus, the story of the game is forgettable to me. In other FFs, where the characters are more likable, the story is more memorable, for example in my case, FF10. I liked the cast a lot and that helped me actually care about their story. Like any book, movie or other story telling mechanic, its a crap shoot. You either like the story or you don't.FoamingPanda
I'm sorry, but when a eight year old child stands in the middle street and looks up to a buff 7'0 black man WITH A MACHINE GUN FOR AN ARM, and says, "SRRY SIR. U CANT GO HERE, IM NOT MOVING LOLOLOLOL," it makes my stomach churn. FF games follow the same cliche theme (apocalytpic struggle, same character progression format, a weird twist thrown in 3/5ths through the game, dull and childish 'kyoto park on sunday afternoon' neo-tokyo looking world, etc).
Lame plot devices, anyone?

It is certainly true that consoles lack decent RPG's...and maybe you have hit upon the reason that FF is such a sucess. There is an inner geek in all of us that loves one element or another of the RPG genre and maybe I have been spoilt by PC gaming (in this area). I will still stand by my statement that,at least most, of the FF series sucks :D.In America, until recent years, we've lacked solid and quality RPG's on consoles. We've been spoon-fed cliche Japanese RPG's so many times, and with such force, that we thought to ourselves, "surely, since this is the only food [RPG] I can find, it MUST be good."
I wouldn't call the FF series the worst games ever. They're certainly among the most over-rated games ever (only Zelda surpasses).Â

Certainly not the 'worst' by a long-shot, but exceptionally banal and unoriginal. CavigliaOk, ok maybe 'worst ever' was a little sensationalist :P
i fail to see how a series that managed to get AAA after its 12th game is a failure...lynxyxAnd I fail to see how The Sims is the biggest selling game franchise of all time...but it is. Does this make it the best game series ever? Nope.
[QUOTE="Wasdie"]No way. Just because you don't have the patients to actually enjoy those games doesn't mean they are the worst games ever. In fact, they are some of the best. They have rock solid RPG gameplay, deep intriguing stories, beautiful graphics, amazing muscial scores, and are overall really really fun for people who like to sit down and get into a game, instead of just play for 20 minutes and stop.sonicare
well said.
It might have been well said if he had bothered to read about the games I like and the games I am currently playing.[QUOTE="Stonin"]Derivative gameplay, boring fight sequences, level grinding and terrible story.
Honestly, why is this game series hyped so much? I mean watch a Manga film or read a book if you want a story. Want to grind levels? Play an MMO so you can at least boast about your achievements to others online.
Obviously this is just opinion but from the sales figures it seems most share it. I guess this is bought by hardcore JRPG fans only. Anybody want to enlighten me as to why this is going to sell systems?

I will be patient with any good game it's just that I don't see any real appeal in these (talking the last 3 iterations here).
[QUOTE="Stonin"][QUOTE="Cedmln"]Please tell me why? I fail to see anything in this game even remotely worth talking about. There is nothing new, nothing innovative and nothing inspiring as far as I can see. Please point out why i'm wrong here. Do you mean as a series? If you do then FF definitely influenced the genre greatly. If you're talking at this point in time, I would have to slightly agree. Willing to admit I haven't played them all so maybe I was a little harsh using the whole series...but certainly the past 3 and hence wondering why people were so hyped about another one coming next year. Especially interesting is why people would buy a console now in order to wait for a game next year *boggle*."Anybody want to enlighten me as to why this is going to sell systems?"
Dude... It most likely already has... Stop seeking attention. Your whole arguement is incorrect.

[QUOTE="Stonin"]You don't like it. Others do. They like the fight sequence, they like leveling and they like the story. Note: "boring" and "terrible" are opinions so fans will use words like "fun" and "awesome". And I see it as a mark of achievement for a game if there are people that actually feel that hating the game makes them "special". This is mostly observed in WoW threads where every now and down, some tard will come in and proclaim how "boring" and "terrible" the game is. Who honestly gives a damn what you think?! Cleary you gave enough of a damn about what I, and others, thought to come in here and post. Everything is an opinion and having played WoW endlessly myself until about 8 months ago ... yes, it is 'boring' and 'terrible' its the people in it that aren't.Derivative gameplay, boring fight sequences, level grinding and terrible story.
