I feel bad for anyone who thinks a Haze score has anything to do with the PS3 itself. I mean, how misinformed is that?

You don't think Bioshock, Gears, and Mass Effect aren't playable on the PS3? Do you really think PS3 doesn't have the blockbuster games? Keep telling yourself that and sooner or later you'll start to believe it.

Furthermore, I don't remember many, if any, PS3 owners saying HAze would rock your socks off. In fact, most were very wary on the game seeing how it hadn't showed much in pre-release videos to get anyone really excited. So stop twisting reality.

I'll say it again, because most of you here in SW won't get it. For the most part, most game scores have NOTHING to do with the console its on. If you think Haze on 360 would have scored higher, you are a fool.

[QUOTE="carljohnson3456"]

Wait, wait, wait. So Hot Shots Golf, MLB The Show 08, and GT5P were bad??? Uh no, and if you ask me that's a pretty decent little offering considering those games (besides GT5P) arent really a reason for the great 2008 PS3 argument.

So, this is 2008...

Blu Ray officially wins the format war.
PS3 starts outselling the 360.
PS3 gets rumble back, take it or leave it.
GT5P sells over 1,000,000 units before it releases.
Playstation Store gets a great make-over.
Killzone 2 is delayed into early 2009.
Killzone 2 finally gets a hands-on preview at PS Day 08, where it got mostly positive impressions.
Metal Gear Solid 4 releases next month.
Haze flops.
Resistance: Fall of Man 2, LittleBigPlanet, and SOCOM: Confrontation are all on the horizon.
GTA4 releases, the Playstation version still moving alot of units despite no DLC.
Multiplatform games becoming increasingly equal between the two platforms.

2008 doesnt seem as shabby as the TC stated now does it?

A few problems

#1 The PS3 was supposed to be alot more powerful than the 360, it isn't

#2 Blu-Ray won the format war, and sales immediatly dropped 40%, not a great start, and as I sit watching a regular DVD upscaled on my HDTV, I can hosnestly say there really is not a monster diffrence, HD looks better, but can be certainly considered a luxury when 480P look pretty good

#3 PS3 has not "started" outselling the 360, it did it on a small scale for 2 months, saying that would be like me saying the 360 dominated this month over the PS3, which it didn't

The Ps store is still lacking compared to Xbox Live, which the marketplace does not require a gold membership

I think the whole Haze thing is overblown with only one review, but MGS4 better score well, of the major fanboys will have a hayday, and if it scores like GTA4 the PS3 fans will wet themselves with glee

My other grip is a personal opinion, and not fact

Charging $40 for an overblown demo is a total Ripoff, Gran Tourismo should have been free, or less than $20, Why pay $40 when Forza 2 can be picked up for under $30, and that game is actually done, and pretty good

A few problems

#1 I love this lame argument. A re we going to worry about how the games actually look now or what we were told about console power well before launch? Bill Gates said that because of the year lead that PS3 would never catch the 360. Yet, it caught it in just over a year with Uncharted. Should I piss and moan about how Bill Gates was wrong? Hell to the no!! Right now, PS3 is the console graphics king, what more do you want?

#2 Blu-ray won the war, fact. HD, blu-ray movies look better than DVD, fact. You don't see a major difference, opinion. PS3 came with blu-ray from the get-go. And fanboy haters wanted to beat the PS3 down because blu-ray would fail. Now it has won and the tune changes to "hd doesn't matter." Why did you by a 360 then? Do you realize you can stick with those great 480p images on the Wii and would have saved money?

#3 I'm sorry, who sold the most, world-wide, for 2007, PS3 or 360? That's right, PS3. And its been outselling world-wide, month-to-month since since. There's no "start" to it. The only time 360 held a lead in slaes was when it was alone.

#4 PS Store is everything Live marketplace is. Oh, wanna talk movies and TV shows? Got 'em on blu-ray or YOUR glorified DVD. Oh, wanna talk about XBLA? It's known to many as the whore-house of the downloadable games services. Good luck finding those 5 good games amongst the 100's there. PSN titles offer far more quality. Plus, with PSN, you play online. You know, that little tyhing gamers like to do. And you don't need a special "member$hip" to do it. The improvements made a month or so ago were huge. Deny it all you want.

#5 It's obvious you haven't played GT P. And I love how you take a full games' discounted price (after being so late after release) and compare it to an unfinished game's full price that will also eventually drop. Weak argument, dude.

  • The worst version of GTA4 (more prone to failure and no DLC)
  • Haze (4.5 on IGN Gamespot score pending)
  • A 40 dollar GT5 demo that got a 7.5 score on Gamespot
  • A horrible port of an ancient 360 game with a mandatory install (Lost Planet)
  • A mediocre golf game (hot shots)
  • A decent version of Devil May Cry 4 that requires a mandatory install so the load times don't suck
  • A pretty awesome exclusive Baseball game (MLB 08 the show)
  • Great version of Burnout Paradise
  • Great version of rainbow six vegas 2

Not looking too hot so far but MGS4 is out soon and Little Big Planet and Resistance 2 should be good as well

vicmackey39

I think you are a little off base, my friend.

- How is the PS3 version the "worst" version? Because some of the copies had issues with the PS3 and have or will be fixed with an update? If you want to count something as stupid as this, why not bring RRoD into the mix?

- Haze flopped on IGN. Wow. Let's call the local news and see if we can have a press conference. There's a reason many haven't hyped that game. Not to mention that using a review score to base your opinion is foolish. Let alone a single review. Didn't you see that IGN gave GTA4 a 10/10. If that doesn't show you the falicies in reviews, I don't know what does. Kind of funny how you use IGN now for HAze but ignore the IGN PS3 review were PS3 issues aren't even mentioned.

- Have you played GT: Prologue? Demo? It has more in it at $40 than a lot of $60 games. I, like many, have actually been very impressed with GT P.

Now what about the other two consoles? How have their years gone? Why is PS3 singled out?

I'll tell you why, because it doesn't fit your lame post.

Reason 1: For a system to claim a year, it has to deliver all through the year. PS3 hasn't done this. MGS4 is coming roughly in the middle of the year and the PS3's momentum as far as games will slow down after that. Resistance 2 and Little Big Planet in the fall will cetainly be big in their own right, but it'll be too late by then. Sure, the PS3 will have had some noteworthy stuff come out this year, but it won't dominate. The momentum is not even distributed enough.

Reason 2: This year will be something of a stalemate. Both the 360 and PS3 shared GTA 4, MGS4 will probably make more waves than Ninja Gaiden 2, whereas Gears 2 will probably make more waves then Resistance 2. There's no series of games on either system that will complete dominate that of the other.

Reason 3: All the titles that define the PlayStation brand are coming out in 2009: Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo, God of War, etc. Furthermore, the title that is said to be the one that will showcase the PS3's power (Killzone 2) is now a 2009 release. That being said, the PS3 seems to have an extremely good chance to claim 2009 because of these very reasons.

Do you guys think I'm on target?

Tragic_Kingdom7

Interesting argument. I agree with some of your points, however, aren't you forgetting some games that will also have an impact for the PS3. The new Socom should do well and we still have White Knight Chronicles and possibly FFXIII and Tekken 6.

FF13 is coming out next year.

We discussed Socom and Tekken.

I wasn't leaving out any games, I was just taking a few key ones from both line-ups and showing how they sort of check and balance eachother out.

Much easier to have them balance each other out when you leave out titles. Yeah, 360 totally counters PS3 when you have Gears vs. Resistance. But what about the others? That is what you have missed from sentense one. That is what you don't get.

Tell me I am not paying attention? Your points change every post to fit your narrow argument.

If you had a clue, Socom would have been in your topic, but wasn't. If you had a clue, Tekken would have been in the topic but it wasn't.

Do you see how weak your point is now? Its like saying Wii kills all becuase I choose to compare Mario Galaxy with PS3's super-rub-a-dub. And while that statement may be true, its moronic. Moronic because I took what I wanted, cut out the rest, and made a foolish point. just like you did.

Animal-Mother

Well sir you contradicted yourself with this line "This year will be something of a stale mate" It can't be either MGS4 Or NG2 is gonna have to make either system more of a system seller, in war there is no stalemate

Don't worry, that wasn't his real point. We all know he was really saying its 360's year but was to eak just to come out and say it. Instead, he hides behind some fantasy world of ties in sales.

He lives in a fantasy world where Gears and NG2 will outsell Resistance 2, Motorstorm 2, Socom Confrontation, and MGS4.

Am I the only one that thinks it's funny that stringguard said I don't know about Socom yet he thinks it's an FPS?

Tragic_Kingdom7

Are you ***ing kidding me? Is it a third-person shooter? No. Sorry I said FPS, its the closest match. In Socom, if you remember, you chose your view, third person or first.

Don't be an *** and act like I didn't play it because i referred to it as FPS. Its not like I called it RPG.

I owned and played Socom I, II, and III. My favorite games last gen. Don't get it twisted, dude.

maybe they should try making a good game instead of remaking goldenye over and over againvicmackey39

Why? All you have to do is find something for fanboys to cling to and keep repeating it. GTA4 got a 10/10. Tell me what was new there.

[QUOTE="StringGuard"]Way to type all fo that TC without realizing that GTA4 came out at the end of April. There wasn't enough time for it to really hit. Watch May NPD and shut your mouth.StryderK

I guess there are those who still missed the fact that for NPD counting purpose, April's NPD streached 3 days into may so GTA IV had 5 days on the charts. Is that all GTA going to do? Nope, I stated later the true litimus test will be in MAy. But with five days, the fact that a game like GTA couldn't push either X360 or PS3 beyond the 200K mark is pretty telling! So who should shut up now? Not me! Maybe its a guy named stringguard who just bashed in, slapped his tongue off without even reading everything!

Maybe its a guy, StryderK, who just bashed in, slapped his tongue off without even getting all of the sales info before making a point.

Not to mention the type of gamer who buiys a Wii and buys GTA4. Do you really think they are the same type of gamer?

[QUOTE="StringGuard"]Its obvious that you don't know Socom either.

Guess what, even if its a smaller fanbase game like Wipeout, PS3 has the history to pull from. All 360 has is Halo. And that wad was already blown last year without much help to 360 console sales.

Again, how can they stalemate when they won't tie on sales? One will sell more than the other.

Tragic_Kingdom7

Now I know what kind of fanboy you are.

1) I had Socom on my PS2.

2) Hate to break it to you, but Gears of War is more than enough to compete with Socom. I can't see Socom beating it.

3) Clearly, if you had read the OP and the thread at large, you'd know I was talking about line-ups, not system sales. Please get some context before you post.

4) Do you have any sufficient proof that history means anything? If that was true, every year would belong to Nintendo.

5) Sony doesn't seem to be culling from this history pool to any great effect this year.

Wow, let me help you here.

1. Socom has one of the biggest FPS followings. It was THE biggest FPS on PS2.

2. Socom 9as a full release) would handle Gears just fine. Socom: Confrontation is an in-between, so, you may have a point there with Socom vs. Gears this year. But it isn't Socom vs Gears. Its Gears vs Socom/Resistance 2. Tell me how Gears handles that.

3. Clearly, if you had any sort of experience with games, gaming, and these forums, you'd know that trying to argue line-ups is pointless and nothing more than fanboyness. If your true intention was to say one lineup is better, its all opinion.

4. Are you kidding about history? First off, history makes the present. Second, history isn't all lined with Nintendo's success. Show me Nintendo when PS1 and PS2 came out. Third, do you think Halo 3 was as big as it was because people forgot 1 & 2? It's HISTORY, the past, that made the launch so big. Acting as if one gen is completely discoinnected from the next is false and misinformed.

5. You say how history doesn't matter yet your next point is how PS3 isn't grabbing their history. Counter yourself much? Yeah, MGS4, no history. Socom, no history. Wipeout HD, no history. You're so right.
