^This. Any if anything, Microsoft copied the Dreamcast controller design, considering they bought the rights to it. Well, that and the original Xbox controller looks just like a DC controller.

DarkLink77

your forgetting about the Xbox "Controller S". They redesigned the original Xbox controller, because it was too big, and made it smaller, also changing the positions of the black and white buttons.

I'm not, because if anything, the S design is even closer to the Dreamcast controller than the original.

How in the world does this:

look closer to this:

Than this does?

It is obvious they changed its form factor to be less like the Dreamcast and more similar to the Dualshock 2, given that the Dualshock 2/playstation 2 was the industry standard controller, and the original xbox controller took heavy criticism, much like the Dualshock 3 does today. Are you really trying to deny that the Xbox controller was influenced by the Dualshock 2, which was the industry standard last gen?

this thread reminded me of sixaxis. I totally forgot about that. I guess it ended up being kind of a gimmick or does any one like sixaxis ? dkdk999
Sixaxis is ALSO a useless gimmick that was thrown in there for the sake of having a useless gimmick. almost no games whatsoever that came out later than 2007 use the damn thing, and the ones that did use it, it was terribly integrated, and only there for the sake of putting it there. Not to mention, they were usually crappy 2007 games. Friggin Uncharted 1 balancing across a beam, or throwing grenades with it, yea, how fun is that . The only game i can think of that used it that came out later than 2007 was MGS4. Most people literally forget that the feature is there until they are required to use it.

I love when people say Sony always copies, but ignores the fact that Microsoft and Nintendo both redid their controllers not once, but twice to make them almost exactly like the Dualshock.

I will say that the DS3 is a downgrade in quality, and needs to be improved, and that the 360 controller is better, but at the end of the day, it is just a more refined Dualshock 3. Next gen the Dualshock 4 will most likely perfect everything wrong with the DS3, and finally shut people the hell up about it. The way people talk about the damn thing you would think its the friggin N64 controller or something.

Lol, that Classic Controller is the exact same thing as the PS3 controller. CONSPIRACY!!! :P (No, not really, the triggers are better and the formation of the controller is different)

You know those 4 buttons on the right side of your controller? Sony, Microsoft AND Nintendo copied Sega. :P

(I also cant be quoted because I havent used an original xbox controller in probably 6 or 7 years, but I believe they also changed the format of the trigger buttons on the Controller "S".

To me the PS controllers were always uncomfortable to me. I guess cows forgot about the boomrang controller

The way the controller is shaped it looks like it would of been more comfortable than the old controllers. But since the media and fans had nothing but negative comments, Sony decided to stick with the same controllers.

p3anut

They stuck with it because the fans demanded it. Everybody complains that Sony doesnt do "teh innovationz", and that was because change wasnt needed, nor wanted. If the Dualshock needed change so bad, then why did Microsoft redo their controller TWICE, to make it more like the Dualshock 2? (Xbox Controller S, and the 360 controller). Nintendo also redid theirs twice (Gamecube controller, and Classic controller).

I plan to get a Wii within the next week, just to catch up on some games, but Im starting to feel like nintendo is just making all these "innovations" just for the sake of making "innovations" (read: gimicks). Their console will never capture the core market as well as the competition, so they need a gimick to fall back on, and make it look "differernt". That is always how nintendo has worked.

That was how Nintendo saved gaming from the gaming crash of 1983. People looked at videogames as something nerdy and loserish, for computer geeks, but Nintendo changed how people percieved it. They packaged their NES with a robot and a gun and told people it wasnt a video game console, but an "entertainment system" and marketed it as a toy.

im passing just because Ive played the hell out of all those games on PS2, and exhausted basically all the replay value those games could possibly have.

Ive beat MGS2 alone probably about 10 times.

Inb4 lemmings accuse Sony of "Copying" Microsoft, even though Microsoft is the one who copied it from Sony in the first place

Honestly though, just give me a f***ing Dualshock 4 and better graphics and I will be fine. Why is that such a complicated concept for these companies to grasp?

Only if we can agree that Deadly Premonition is the game LA Noire should have been. I loved heavy rain, but I wish it had a seemless open world with an awesome time system much like deadly premonition. real time beard simulation, being able to track npcs throughout the day from places such as locking up to work and driving home, to the side quests that actually added to the story's plot.
