I just read online about how the Wii actually gets HOTTER when it is off (but the standby internet connection is ON) than when the console is ON, probably because the fans are off when the console is off, but heat is still being generated due to the standby connection.
Someone said that their game disc actually got ruined (the label was warped) by the heat after he had left it in the Wii for a while.
This really concerns me, as I always leave whatever game I happen to be playing inside my console until I am completely finished and move on to the next game.
From what I've read, I don't think this is a concern for PS3 or Xbox, but that's want I'm trying to make sure. I haven't used the Wii in a long time, but I don't believe that I have the standby connection on.
Because of how the PS3 and Wii disc slots are designed, the disc always makes physical contact as it SLIDES in (a tray would have been much better), so I still think it's best to leave a game disc inside if you plan on playing the same game again the next time you use the console.
So far, I don't think the PS3 is even capable of getting "warm" when it is OFF/on standby, but apparently from what other people are saying, the Wii gets hotter when it's off and standby connection is set to ON, than when it's actually turned on and in use, due to the lack of a fan running when it's off.

I found this poll from four years ago, and out of everyone who voted, 3-4x as many people seem to LEAVE their game disc inside the PS3 after playing, as opposed to taking it out.
I mean, if makes sense ... loading and re-loading your game disc everytime you play is a hassle and is probably doing more damage to the disc than just leaving it inside (due to the fact that it's sliding against the slot every time, because there are no disc trays ... and also the risk of damaging due to handling for people with clumsy hands), so why shouldn't you leave the disc inside if you're just going to play the same game again next time?
You wouldn't think that there would be any issue at all ... until you read about the Wii getting hot with standby connection on and with no method of getting rid of the heat (no fan running). I really think that's a major design flaw on the part of Nintendo. Although come to think of it, I vaguely recall having had standby connection ON at one time, and finding it odd that the fans were still going on even after I had turned the system off. So maybe the newer models have fixed this issue?
