Ok so I never played any of the ME games, so im not that invested. Just wanted something to read while drinking my coffe. Oddly enough I feel slightly offended after reading this article. Maybe its because I dont like being told what to think. To whom ever wrote this article, you should be more open to the possibility that the fans and the "artists" are both right. And we have seen enough of "merchandise" that have altered its endings, to know that the actual artists behind a "product" dont have the last word in these matters.
I think its interesting that not one of the developers mentioned the fact that PC gaming is suffering(couldnt find a better word, english aint my native language), because of consoles. Not console sales, but the fact that PC gamers get to live with a menu system in games designed for the console controller, smaller maps, dx 9 is a standard instead of dx 11, etc, etc. PC gamers get essentially games developed for hardware that is 5-6 years old.
Hope this ends the war betwen PC version and the console version, we can all see that the PC version looks better "woohooo" but is the difference really something to care about? No, no it isn't.
Oh oh and I forgot to say, in this tests they ahve more powerfull hardware then my own so how can I have more fps then the hardware displayed here? DRIVER 259.32 is the answer. I gained roughly 10fps with these, they are not whql. You can find the 64bit version here: http://downloads.guru3d.com/GeForce-Forceware-259.32-Win-7-|-Vista-64-bit-download-2605.html "The overall responses in our forums are pretty good, and the driver seems to be well suited for Mafia II. 3DVision 259.32 is included in this build as well."
If you want the physX effects and cloth etc without a dedicated physX card you can do so if you do the "tweak"(I would call it a nerf more then a tweak). What you do is remove the physX effects from all the NPC cloths. and only have the effects and debris and cloth on the main character('''SPOILER OMG LOOK AWAY'') which is named Vito(spoiler over). I did this and I got Amd athlon II X4 3.0ghz(stock) 1066mhz ram and an GTX460 768mb card and the game runs in solid 60fps while driving and running around causing havoc. Haven't tried it on missions yet. Oh and that is with all the eye candy on high, no AA(suxx anyway) and ambient occluision on. vsync on aswell and my screens hz is 60hz at 1920x1080. However I discovered a microstutter from time to time whith physX on high, so I reduced it to medium and now its fluiid. I don't like how the cloths move tough. and the debris I tought was graphical errors lol. I had a gunfight and I walked up to collect the weapons from the dead bodies, and I saw these orange pixels ontop of the bodies and everything around them. I realised it was rubble from the brickwall behind them after a while tough. So look at the forum for how to do the tweak and have 60fps with 1GPU physx and enjoy. worked like a charm(if steam updates you have to do it again most likely so have a tweaked folder ready).
razorzs your specs is what I upgrade my computer to last week just for this game, it runs 60fps with no fps drops whatsoevr @ 1080p all the eyecandy on max, except physX. Even with physX on medium/high the fps is never bellow 30isch(thats with full cloth/particles etc, no modifications to the apex folder).
