One more thing - I'm looking forward to their apology and the ensuing patch that will happen months after this new Xbox's release that will allow players to not have "always on". All games that required DRM or always on have had trouble at launch. Sim City. Diablo. That generated a lot of rage and bad press.
Now, let's apply that to a console for each and every game that releases on it.
Can you imagine the rage that will happen for the first Call of Duty that releases for this new Xbox? The children that get it day 1 and end up not being able to play because the servers go down?
That rage will be delicious, and I will be there to laugh at both them, and Microsoft.
Thing is, and someone else mentioned this on Blistered Thumbs over this news - there is no doubt that we are heading for that in the future - an always online console. But that'll have to happen decades into the future. We as a society are not ready for that. As of right now, the internet is not reliable enough to support such a console. Hell, last night, I kept on losing my connection to Xbox Live. I wouldn't have been able to play anything had it been this new console.
I have no doubt that we will see an always-on console, but not now. We are not ready. Microsoft wants to be the frontrunner with that tech because it's there, but we all know what happened with companies that tried to do that. Tried to go forth with the tech way before it became the standard - way before people knew how to efficiently run it and use it.

Mark my words. This new Xbox will join that trio of "not yet ready" half-baked consoles.
The bright side of this? I don't have to save money for the new Xbox, as I originally intended. Now I'll start saving money for the PS4. I already got a WiiU, and I love the little thing. Now I just need the PS4.

Uhm, Micro$oft? He *IS* a spokesperson for your company, being the "Creative Director" and all. He's in charge of your vision. He *IS* your voice. I know you're trying to cover your butts, but don't be stupid doing it.
He is your vision, he is your roadmap, and we hate you as a company for his "personal" comments and for even hiring him.
