I dont see any reason why the 360 wouldn't be able to run folding@home. The folding@home project had a client that run on the ATI X1900 (not sure if also was the X1800) GPU's (in other words, not the CPU) so I dont see why they couldn't make a client that runs on the 360 GPU either since it is an ATI GPU. As for overheating problems - it all depends where the "issue" is. if it is on the CPu the running it on the GPu wouldn't do much. If it is on the GPU then using 1 core of the 3 CPu cores might work.

I've been running Folding@home on my various home PC's but in the end I've started to question if I want to use up as much power that it does. On one hand it is great to be able to help in research, on the other hand not only does it costs money to keep a machine running all the time (and the damn prices just keep going up) but in an age where there is a lot of discussions on how to reduce the power usage makes me hesitant to start up yet another machine to run full time.

Oh come on. Does people no longer have a sense of humor? They had a little fun without being mean. Wow - a boat saying "Xbox360 loves you" is something to get upset on?

I think even better was the fact they sent a lot of Uk magazines beer for the same amount of money you save when getting a 360. That's a fun way to advertise your product.

We need more of this type of competition instead of all the **** that usually flies between them. I hope Sony makes something similar next time MS launches something (like a new version of the 360).

Well, I own all three. Even imported a US PS3 since the price of the PS3 in Sweden was absurd.

So far my 360 still is the favourite. I got Resistance and Motorstorm for the PS3. Resistance to me is generic and boring. MP is ok without excelling in any area. Motorstorm is fun but quite repetetive.

Right now the 360 wins in several areas:

* More games I like. Kind of expected since PS3 is still relatively new so this will of course improve with time.

* A much more solid online experience. I get what I pay for - a great online service. PSN to me is far far behind XBL. Home sounds intriguing but I'm more interested in unified friendslists, game invites between games, voice chat in all games etc. than a MySpace/Second Life setup. The fact that I know that 360 games will have a solid online experience while I never know what to expect on the PS3 is quite important to me. That's for instanes why I'm getting Virtua tennis 3 for the 360 instead of the PS3

* Better media experience. I stream music and video from both my various PC's at home (including a dedicated Media Server) as well as my Vista Media Center. It works flawless and is easy to set up. I even have had sucess with transcoding divx movies on the fly. The PS3-experience is in my experience much more clunky. No easy set up for streaming over the network. Not to mention I dont seem to have the ability to play my own music when playing games. I've just installed YDL on the PS3 and it will be interesting to play around with it more but so far I see it as more of a geeky fun thing to try than something usefull. So right now the PS3 simply doesn't do it for me in the media department.

Blueray is nice but I also got the HD-DVD addon for the 360. I bought a bunch of Blueray and HD-DVD movies when I was in New York 2 weeks ago and to be honest I was more impressed with the quality of the HD-DVD movies (the image quality) than the BR movies. It's still nice to have both though. in the end the selection of movies is quite bad anyway so I am relying on DVD's for quite some time yet. Oh, a plus for HD-DVD is that is so far is region free when it comes to movies. As far as I've seen for Blueray it seems to be just some that are region free.

* The 360 control is sooooo much nicer. I must admit I really do not like the PS3 controller. Much to light. Not to mention I miss my rumble. Hopefully they will release a new controller with rumble soon.

The plus-side with the PS3 is of course that it is silent. I've never really been bothered by my 360 as it sits in a nice cabinet and I usually have my 5.1 system blasting out the sound anyway but if the sound of the 360 bothers you then the PS3 will be a welcome surprise.

BTW - I have a launch model 360 which never has had any issues.

So, right now the 360 simply fits me better. The PS3 is by no means a bad console, just don't think it was worth the initial price regardless how many "hidden" features it has. I rather have a console that does fewer thing well than one who does a lot of things not so well.

Oh, and my Wii is actually currently packed away. I brought it to my sister a few weeks ago so she could try it but haven't gotten around to set it upa gain once I got home. It just hasn't hooked me I guess. I need to set it up again since I got Excite Trucks waiting for me.

[QUOTE="lucas_kelly"]Microsoft gives you the choice, Sony dosent. I dont need a Blu-ray player to play good games. InfamousC

Yes they give you choices, Silver or Gold Live. I like Sony's "forced" free online better.

I rather pay for something that works well than get something free that doesn't work well. I got both the 360 and the PS3 and so far PSN is a joke compared to XBL. 50$ is a small price to pay for an excellent online service. Home is intriguing but since I haven't been into these "virtual worlds" thingy for several years I'm not sure it is something for me. What I want from PSN is simple:

* Unified friendslist over ALL games
* All games support voicechat
* The ability to see what my friends are playing and invite them to my game regardless whhat they are doing on their console (ok, except running Linux on it at the moment)
* A Playstation store that isn't running like molasses (the Euro-servers opened up yesterday and it still is slow when browsing around)

Quite simply - right now PSN is quite far behind XBL. I hope they get around to fixing these problems though since I just want a good online experience regardless which system I use.

As for the original posters which you quoted. The choice been talked about there has nothing to do with online. You cannot ignore the simple fact that MS does give the gamers the option to pay for the HD-movie support by buying the HD-DVD addon or to wait until a clear winner has been decided and then get either the add-on or a separate player. I got both the PS3 with the Blueray and the HD-DVD addon for the 360 and while I have movies for both (picked up a bunch when I was in New York a week ago) I wasn't exactly blown away by the selection for either format. IMHO DVD's still will reign for quite some time so I can understand people who are hesitant to pay extra for a HD-format before they really need it.

And I know at least 5 friends with launch or early 360's (me included) which have had no issues at all. On the other hand I am on my third PS2. It's anecdotical evidence which doesn't necessarily paint the whole picture. It is quite obvious that there were issues with some of the launch models of the 360. How big is of course something to debate but I personally think it is very hard to figure that out just from reading posts on the web. In my own experience the last month or so there have been a nice rise of people claiming to be on their 4th or 5th 360 or having a friend or a friends friend which now are on the third (even saw someone claiming 9 360's) and it just becomes hard to believe all of them. Maybe I am cynical but I do not trust many anonymous posters these days. I think it is quite short-sighted to choose a system based on this. Even if new batches of 360 still would have a higher than normal defective-rate the chance that you would pick one of those up still is quite slim. And if it would happen it still would be taken care of by MS. In the long run you should look at the games there are now and the games that you want to play in the future. If the PS3 library (current and future) fits you better then definitley go with the PS3. But if the 360's current and future library is more interesting I see no reason why not to go with the 360.

I think that many were indeed thinking that Crackdwon would only sell because the Halo 3 beta and expecting to be quite crappy. But with the demo, at least from the reactions on the various forums I frequent, a lot of people certainly decided to buy it or were suddenly more interested in the game than the Halo 3 beta. It's a really good game so it certainly deserves to sell based on its own mertis and not the Halo 3 beta.

As for Wii Play - couldn't the simple fact be that it sells so much because you get a Wiimote with it? Considering the price of the Wiimote alone, why not buy a game for roughly the same price?

Will be interesting to see next month when Motorstorm has come out and Virtua Fighter has had a whole month to sell.

Personally I think this chart is much more interesting in the future than the hardware sales.

Actually the *** market is a market no Lemm has ever claimed that the Xbox360 is dominating or doing well on. So I'm a bit of a loss why you drag up those numbers in a new thread and use those numbers as some argument why lemms should not think the 360 is selling WORLDWIDE? It's sad that MS still cannot "crack" the *** market but this time they at least are making a good attempt and bringing them games that should suit the market (Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata etc). If they still don't buy it then that's their loss. Nothing to loose to much sleep on. I would be more concerend if I was Sony since the PS3 still is far far behind the Wii. Sony used to own the *** market on the stationary consoles but so far it looks like they might loose that crown.

A good set of achievements definitely can add to the enjoyment you get out of a game. Good achievements become mini-goals that you try to achieve while playing the game. To say that it is only for people finishing games or the hardcore gamers are quite frankly stupid. I rarely finish any games and i still think it is quite fun to try to get some of the more corny achievements some games have. Crackdown ahve some really funny ones. And one I still seem never to be able to get is the Pacifier achievement in Geometry wars.

You can view achievements in many ways. As I mentioned above as mini-goals but also in some ways "bragging-rights". getting a hard-to-achieve achievement to me gives me a feeling of accomplishing something even though I know I never will finish the game.

That doesn't mean that everyone will care about them but just because you don't doesn't mean no-one else does. So yes, I think a good set of achievements definitely could tilt the score a bit higher just as crappy achievements might tilt it negatively.

As for GameSpot and Throphys. If it is similar I see no reason why they should not value them as well.

[QUOTE="secretsaiyan007"]Umm.. why would someone make their purchase of a console based on system war fanbase? :|HazeNPopes
Because people wants to know what`s a better buy.

And the arguments in System War in any way indicates what is a better buy??? I see enough idiots on all three sides to see any reason to change the allegiance to a system purely because of posts. Did the 360 suddenly got worse because you came across some lellimng you found annoying? How about all the annoying cows then? When will they "force" you to switch system again? and what if you get annoyed by arrogant sheeps? What's left? As for being a fakeboy. You've beena round long enogh to know that these sometimes emerge and can get really annoying. you usually spot them on the fact that even though they claim of owning a console and being "lemming/cow/sheep" they constantly bash the system. Dont know if you are one but when positng something like this you always risk getting accused being one. Nothing to get upset about. As an owner of all three consoles (360 first, wii then and imported Ps3 last) I got to say I find cows just as annoying as many lemmings 8and sheep). but that's part of System Wars. I'm amazed that you actually decide the allegiance to a console due to this.

I'm amazed that some here still try to defend this or make it sound like it is nob ig deal.

As it looks they moved from hardware to more software emulation. That's a HUUUUGE difference. We all know how hard it can be to emulate different hardware in software from the Xbxo 360 so why would Sony, a company not exactly known for their good software, suddenly excell in this department.

Those of you who seem to think this can be fixed easily really are missing some key statements from Sony:

"Rather than concentrate on PS2 backwards compatibility, in the future, company resources will be increasingly focused on developing new games and entertainment features exclusively for PS3.”

Does that sound like a company that plans on working hard on improving the bc?

Or how about:

"It also embodies a new combination of hardware and software emulation which will enable PS3 to be compatible with a broad range of original PlayStation® (PS) titles and a limited range of PlayStation®2 (PS2) titles. "

If it was 75% of titles instead of 98% as stated for the US/Jpn PS3, you think they would say "a limited range"? Heck, if it was 60% I still would expect them to say "a broad range" also for the PS2.

As for how important BC is. That depends. I don't think it will make or break a console but I've played a few Xbox games on my 360 and currently are playing Final Fantasy XII on my US PS3. The PS2 has such a incredible library so I can think of a lot of games I would like to get for it. And since I don't own a PS2 I would rather not have to buy a new console for it.

The main issues however is that not only has Sony (and cows in general) made fun of Microsoft for having to do software BC but suddenly us Europeans get to still pay a lot more than in the US (a PS3 will cost around USD885-925 in Sweden which is a lot more even considering our higher VAT) and get a machine that is worse, regardless if you think BC is important or not.

I don't see how anyone can feel that is a good deal for us consumers. I'm happy as I imported a US PS3 but I'm sorry for those who cant do that.
