[QUOTE="Swifty_Magee"][QUOTE="bob_newman"]They're making Animal Crossing for the Wii. It's most likely going to be an MMO. If so, this is a case where Nintendo would actually charge for Pay-and-Play, because WiiConnect24 will keep the servers running 24 hours a day. They might even add voice/text chat. Who knows?
But this is very likely to happen.

I would have brought that up too, but Nintendo said before that they have no plans for it to be an MMO, or to make any MMOs period. Then again, that was before Pay to Play was announced, so maybe they are slowly changing their minds about that.
Or maybe (just thought about it) the new Zelda will be MMOish. Nintendo said that the next game in the series is supposed to be way different and appeal to both casual and hardcore players. That right there gives me the idea that whatever it will be like, it will at least have some form of online.
zelda online!? Now I heard them say big change and I was hoping this meant darker story, link being anti-hero, more epic, etc. Honestly I see no way for Zelda to work online and I think if it was it would be full of suck and fail
Frankly, I wouldn't want to see a Zelda MMO either. I can sort of see how that could be pulled off, but the closet idea I have in my mind would be to turn it into a WoWish dungeon crawler, where you don't play as Link but as a custom made Hyrulian that's adventuring in one of the game's timelines. Could work, but I'd much rather play an epic single player Zelda; the "anti-hero" bit could be cool.
Personally, I thought last year's April Fools day joke about a futuristic FFVII type setting for the next Zelda would be awesome if they didn't go too overboard with the future theme.

It could work with the right things I agree. But im saying I just don't see it happening.movin_target
Yeah, I can be optimistic about the idea, but I'm kinda the same way. It might be just me, but while I think there could conceivably be an MMO released, it just seems strange for one to be released on a Nintendo console. Maybe it's just because they're the only major console company not to have an MMO on one of their systems so far? I wouldn't have even thought about the idea until I heard about the Pay to Play service and past rumors of the next Animal Crossing to focus on an "online society"; then "They're going to make an MMO" immediately popped into my head!
I don't know...there might be one, there might not. It could be awesome or totally suck. We'll just have to wait and see what develops, I guess.
I think that if there was an MMO game made for the Wii, it would have to be pretty simplified. A simple point-and-click hack 'n slash would be cool (if Flagship brought out Mythos to the Wii, that would be excellent). You could attempt to map hotkeys to motions, but I think that would be to confusing for most people to pull of skills and spells in the heat of battle, and hard to pull off successfully for the devs. Maybe have a pool of skills to choose from, but only having four selectable at any time, so you could map them to the D-pad.
Who knows...could be cool. Add a voice chat feature, chat room, ability to mail friends in your group/guild; it could work.
Despite the controls and graphics and everything else that it gets criticized for, my biggest problem with Red Steel was that it was boring...
But, I do see potential and am optimistic for the second one.
Just one thing Ubi, either provide a reason for the swordfighting, or get rid of it altogether...

That's another gripe of mine I had when I first picked up the game. Why, when I'm carrying a shotgun and an uzi, do I have to put down my best weapons to sword fight some generic thug? I mean, for actual boss fights, it's acceptable. To fit in with the story, they could goad your character, calling him a "cowardly gaijin" and throwing his "lack of honor" into it, or something. But to just put away your guns for some guy running around the corner with a katana...in real life, that's when you're reaching for your handgun, not putting it away!
Everyone keeps thinking an MMO will eventually come out because MMOs are the only type of games that require a Pay to Play plan. Unless you can think of other games like that. Can't say Halo and other similar games on the Xbox because you aren't paying the developers, you're paying Microsoft for the online service. Also, I think the new Pay to Play plan is set up monthly instead of yearly, adding further speculation to MMO games being brought to the Wii.
If they are, in fact, MMOs, I'd expect either voice chat to be brought to the system soon, or a firmware update allowing a larger variety of USB keyboards to be hooked up to the system. If voice chat isn't accepted, expect texting on the system to be simplified.
