Playing with the settings is still better than playing console games. But if it bothers you, you can always just set everything to low and be done with it, that's pretty much the equivalent of console experience.EntwineXAh finally someone throwing up EPIC damage control.

Ya and there's not this thing called ps3 huh?:roll:A 360 gamer pays $60 for his game, puts it in the disk drive, plays for 1 hour and has the thing RROD. Then, he has to wait at least 1 week before getting it back, play another 1 hour and gets another RROD. It goes on, just slower until he's got really bored paying $5 a month for the Multiplayer of the game, then, instead of having the luxury of mods for adding even more value to the replayability of the game, has to buy a completely new game for another $60 and play it with monthly RRODs.
A PC gamer checks the system requirements for a game, buys it for $50, installs it, plays, tweaks settings, and plays without any likely failures assuming he wasn't idiotic or unfortunate enough to come across some viruses or other problems. Then, after getting bored, he goes to [insert random website here] and downloads mods and maps, rinces, repeats and gets years of playtime from $50.

And how much time did it take you to figure out the settings in crysis. It took me 2 days.

lol, to me it looks like there is a problem with you rather than pc gaming if such simple things take so long for you to do. it took me around 10-5 minutes for crysis and that too is quite high, mostly because crysis is a highly configurable game
Than you are not running crysis optimally for your PC.Period.I mean seriously are you kidding me?So you played crysis for the first time ever and it took you just 5 min to know what settings you are going to play?I have an 8800GTX.I obviously just like anyother 8800 owner initially loaded the game with very high settings and well it was pathetic. Then i auto detected the settings and it still ran poorly.LOL
sorry that's just your assumption. it took me few 5-10 minutes to read what the properties in config files do and few more minutes to modify those. that's all. if it took you two days i feel sorry for you.
also for people who don't like changing config entries, an easier would have been get a pre-made config file.
also on pcs with so many options i can choose my optimum fps /resolution/graphics quality etc combination . how much of that is on consoles? for me not having this option is sad
Agreed. Mass effect. It dropped to as low as like 5 FPS at times. I would rather turn down a few things than have it slow down that much.
Unless you are playing in medium settings you cannot avoid MASSIVE slowdowns sometimes in crysis especially that last boss fight so your point.:|[QUOTE="Tech_Guy_2"]I dont have a problem with installing games AT ALL.

[QUOTE="Tech_Guy_2"][QUOTE="Meu2k7"]Who are you trying to kid.I also have an 8800 and even HL2 and COD4 donot give me max settings even though i can max them real easy. And the optimal settings dont know anything about the levels of filtering that you are going to apply.? No? since I bought my 8800 over a year and 4 months ago, ive jsut pu the disk in, installed, played ... Auto Detects Max settings. with the exception of Crysis...
1 out of ... 15-20 games ...

And secondly you are basically telling me that when my 8800 becomes old i will have to upgrade otherwise i will have to play with the settings in every game.Sorry but that is just FAIL.
Half-Life 2 does?
Who are YOU trying to kid, Half-Life 2 automatically puts everything on high, the only thing NOT maxxed is the AA/FSAA ... which optional by user preferance.
That and full world reflect?
Takes 2 seconds ... what on earth is your point exactly?
You can set your graphic card to Force FSAA/AA to a certain level anyway so your point is still moot.
So?the game wont know that when giving the optimal settings.[QUOTE="Tech_Guy_2"][QUOTE="Killfox"][QUOTE="Tech_Guy_2"]A console gamer buys a game, loads it up and starts playing.Bingo.:)
A PC gamer buys a game, loads it up and starts playing with the errr settings of the game:lol: .Then he forgets something, closes the game, runs fraps and then loads the game up again. Then he starts the game forgeting about the actual start of the game and just concentrates on the yellow letters showing the fps. Then he tries to tinker with the settings seeing as what affects what. Then he thinks that he has found the setings so he starts the game in seriousness only to realize after 30 min that the first level was not as demanding and he overestimated his PC so dang let's play with the settings again.Well now he thinks he has to tinker with the nvidia control panel to get the best performance.
Oh dear god PC gaming is just incredibly sad.

Most games now a days check your systems setting before even playing it sets it what thinks will perform best on you hardware. So that just about makes this hold thread fail. Oh hey how bout you go play with some mods. Oh wait you cant. Too bad. While your playing a game once I can play it again with mods and have a completely different experience than the first time.
I am a PC gamer actually so dont think you can lie to me.Optimal settings that a game gives you is a complete joke.I cannot max out HL2 through optimal settings whereas i can actually max it easily.I just bought need for speed prostreet. When i loaded the game guess what was giving low settings in 640x480.The game needless to say looks terrible but runs a charm but when i put all settings to max it doesnt run very well.So WTF am i supposed to do.The game had no optimal settings. It just gives you the lowest possible settings and then well what do we do then?
Sorry man but PC gaming is just sad until this horrible flaw is fixed.
You over exaggerating the problem beyond belief. Like I just bought bioshock alittle while ago. It took my like a minute to figure out what settings I wanted and I was done and reasy to play. Also we install games to have faster load times just like the PS3 is starting to do. Stop complaining about installing. It takes me like 5 minutes to install a game.
I dont have a problem with installing games AT ALL.And how much time did it take you to figure out the settings in crysis. It took me 2 days.
Yes i really love WiC and lost planet for this.Yes having a built in benchmark will really help this matter. But sadly PC gamers have abnormally low standards so you cant help it.sadly, this is somewhat true.
Games really should include a test level to play. Put some things that are more intense. It would really be nice. I dont pc game anymore, but this is truly what I use to do. Now when I game on the pc, I dont realy care. I run games on whatever the auto settings are. Im a medium warrior for most games I want to play
