Some things just can't be ran by a committee. You need a strong leader, a visionary, someone that might ruffle some feathers but gets stuff done. members of a committee voting Gates out? sounds like a perfect example of what's wrong with MS right now.

Well said. I lost some interest when it stopped being about Desmond/Altair/Ezio. and then I lost complete interest when it started being about pirates. maybe they should have just made a new series?

@Chai_Tea @Tekarukite It might take some marketing, but if Steam can show its value to what we're now calling "couch" gamers, maybe with a "killer app" or just its huge library of 3,000 games to choose from, it might win some over. maybe not all of them, but enough to get a foot in the door.

also, there's no reason a Steam Machine couldn't have a free browser on it, and who knows what deals Valve is working out with services like Netflix. sure, it's still an entertainment machine - which puts it in competition with other consoles - but I think it's going to get some people off the fence. that's the plan as I see it, anyway.

I think the "compelling" is coming. And it's really simple:

without the cost of Windows OS, a Steam Machine will be inexpensive.

with a new controller introducing couch-gamers to genres they've never been able to play, many of them free (DotA2, LOL, etc) the Steam Machine will expand the PC gaming market.

as more and more people pass on buying PCs because they're too expensive or intimidating and buy tablets because they are simple and easy to understand, PC gaming NEEDS this. they need to keep selling machines and in this case, they WILL be cheap and simple.

assuming Valve actually makes some hardware or at least sets standard price points/configurations for OEM's to replicate.

@Gamerhomer haptic feedback actuators. small, strong, weighted electro-magnets. you will get more precise rumble feedback than ever before.

@Gamer_4_Fun @Tekarukite definitely 2. 3 was better, but not perfect. so I'm cautiously optimistic about Shadowfall.

@Gamer_4_Fun @Tekarukite I love that defense. If that was true, why did the SP feel different than MP?

Looks great. I hope they show some MP. I want to see if the input lag is still a problem. And is this guy playing on 'easy' mode? the enemies are full on stupid.

@garywood69 I think it's an overall feeling. It's a great game and has a lot of cool features, but overall it is a little dry and can be boring sometimes.

Good review. The way I usually summarize my affection for FFXIV: ARR is that it uses some old things, tries some new things, and sometimes things work and sometimes they don't. the real head-scratcher, then, is when it uses old things that don't work. Like the map. It's a horrible mess. Why couldn't they just copy what works? It's more excusable, for example, when something doesn't work but at least its something new. Like the LeveQuests. Which I generally love, but why the limit? I don't get it. Overall, I'd rate it more like an 8.5 and I'm completely obsessed with it. Another quick way to summarize it: It's quirky. It's quirkiness is part of its charm - and frustration.
