@_huh Because people have a tendency to allow themselves to get ripped off, which is proven by the whole DLC market. Companies like MS are good at taking advantage of people who allow themselves to get ripped off.
Sony has had problems, but so has MS and both have worked hard to fix their problems. I see no evidence WHATSOEVER that indicates that Sony doesn't put in as much effort to make their online service better just because it is free because let's face it, even though it is free, it still makes them money through game purchases and sales and the quality of their service can still make or break their reputation. This means Sony has just as much incentive to get things right as MS does.
Let's please not pretend that MS has done everything perfectly or that they haven't had any big hiccups along the way either.
Also, I'd like to mention that Sony is not the only competitor Microsoft has when it comes to providing a great online service. PC games have been enjoying that comfort for years and yet in most cases, they don't have to pay anything to enjoy it unless its a sub fee for some MMO, and even that is a dying trend.
@NARUtotheFISH There's a difference between paying for a good service, and being ripped off for it. There are other mediums which have similarly great services, that cost nothing, so why must people pay so much for something others are offering for free?
I would say that by allowing yourself to get ripped off, you're allowing companies to take advantage of you and supporting a bad money making trend. By supporting a bad trend, you allow it to grow and continue and in future, you'll be taken advantage of even more.
If you ask me, you should never be charged extra just to enjoy ALL the content of a game you already paid full retail price for. I can understand paying for an online service that provides some premium content, but being able to play the game you bought is not something that should be considered "premium", it should be available without cost.
High sales do not make a good console and sales alone will not make the Wii-U great. That will be left up to the games that come out for it and how well it is supported in the long run.
The Wii-U still has a long way to go to prove itself, just like any console that is this early in its life span. My biggest disappointment, however, is knowing how underwhelming the hardware specs on the Wii-U are and it's one of the biggest reasons I am not considering a purchase right now (it barely competes with current gen consoles, much less being considered "next gen"). I know some people say hardware performance shouldn't matter, but in a way it does because it limits how far devs can push their games and in some ways even limits innovation. Vast hardware performance differences may also make porting games from other next gen consoles (when they come out) to the Wii-U similarly problematic and may even cause devs to shy away from developing specific big titles for the Wii-U at all. That is, of course, assuming the new Xbox and PS3 will actually have next gen hardware, which may not be the case for all I know.
@jcwainc Regardless of how you feel about the work someone else produces, to me, those who wish bad things on others, especially to the severity that you just have, are the worst kinds of people in this world. Nothing he has done is so evil that he deserves to suffer for it, so you seriously need to wake up and smell the roses and stop being so selfish and immature.
@Mikrokosmik Actually, it looks exactly like a husk from Dark Souls, just with a giant spider on its back sticking a spine through its head. How that suddenly equates to necromorph, I do not know.
Way! More wonderful things to kill us! I love the chariot especially and I reckon that will most certainly causes its fair share of "you died" messages popping up on screen. ^ ^
Btw, for all of you stressing over whether they'll mess the game up and make it too casual - or whatever other worries you have - you might as well relax for the time-being. There's no point getting worked up over the unknown so we'll just have to wait for the game to come out to see if it lives up to our expectations. Until then, just enjoy the art and the media coverage and don't stress too much. The last thing we need is a negative atmosphere to get us all down in the dumps. The world ended yesterday so we can only go up from there! :P
You guys at GS shouldn't worry about justifying everything you do or write, because no matter what you do or how perfectly you try to do it, someone will always critique your critique. If you try too hard to please everyone, you'll end up pleasing no-one because you won't be perceived as genuine anymore. Just be honest, be yourselves and let the rest take its course. Don't suck up to readers and don't be afraid to go against the status quo. Expect people to disagree with you and take it for what it is and move on.
To me, this article was unnecessary and only exists to appease the reader lash-back against Laura's article, which I myself felt was exaggerated and excessive. Also, you speak of people having differing opinions and that this is a good thing, but I don't see how anyone can formulate an opinion on a game they have yet to play or how they could possibly believe their opinion (which is based on absolutely nothing) is somehow more correct or relevant than those of a journalist who HAS actually played the game and thus actually has an experience to base their opinion on. It just doesn't make sense to me.
