No idea on retail version. That error is something that happens with Steam when a program that interfaces with it (including Antivirus/AntiMalware programs) jacks up a file in the install.

I had a problem with Norton taking out the ypatcher AND main .exe of the game, after downloading it from Steam. I had to add exception to both, then re-verify my game in order to get it to work.
EDIT: Oh, and I also clicked the "Administrator" box on both the main .exe AND the Launcher for good measure, just in case.
It worked for me as well, like a charm. Runs smooth as butter with Quality settings, the way it should. I too, also, have the Windows mouse cursor on-screen at all times. Small price to pay at the moment.
Now my question is: What do those commands do, and why is it now working the way it should be; mouse cursor aside?
Installed LA Noire last night after it FINALLY came out for PC. However, even running a good ATI 6870 series card the game still studders to a crawl. Anyone else having similar problems? STEAM forums are offline, so no help there at the moment.
If your mobo supports USB-boot, then you're golden. That's really all there is to it, assuming you have a bootable OS on the stick.
Yeah, I was very disappointed to see that SC:C got pushed back; for no other reason than they wanted it to set-off their fiscal year. Start the year with a bang!... then do nothing else for the rest... I think that may be their marketing stratagy.
Sometimes interference just happens and it seems like no matter the shielding and grounding and software, it just doesn't help. I had a netbook like that last year that just... geez, nothing I did.
UNTIL, I installed a little Bluetooth receiver and used it with my Bluetooth headset. Perfect quality after that.
Just a suggestion. :)
