OK you know what?  This is where I'm going to draw the line.  You saying Halo is more acclaimed than the Half Life series is ludicrious.  It's as crazy as someone saying Paris Hilton is the most intelligent human being on earth.

Do a google search for "top 10 games of all time".  On nearly every list both Half Life and Half Life 2 are higher than Halo and on some lists Halo doesn't even appear.

There are a few lists like Gamepro that have Halo higher but magazines like Gamepro are CONSOLE magazines and CONSOLE fanbois.

The simple fact is most industry professionals and magazines/web sites rate Half Life higher on the top 10 or top 100 scale than Halo.

YOU are free to think Halo is a better game but stop making statements like it has higher acclaim because that's stating something as factual and it's not true in the slightest if you look at the actual polls.

Xalaten

No, not always. For example, look at GameSpot.

I can't find a top games of all time list for gamespot anywhere on the internet.

If you're just talkinga bout ratings on gamespot, Halo got a 9.0 and Half Life got a 9.4.

So uhhh...I forgot what the point was?

Halo's 9.7 score says no.

Agreed yet you wanted to compare a 2001 - 2004 series with Half Life which was released in 1998?

I smell hypocrisy somewhere.

Half Life 2 actually came out on the Xbox.  THAT'S why you can compare it to Halo.

Xalaten

Halo is the face of first-person shooters on consoles, and Half-Life is the face of the same genres on PC. That's why they can be compared.

OK now you're not even making sense anymore.  I don't know why I bother coming to system wars.

You started comparing the original Half Lifes graphics to Halo which came out three yeras later.  I said that wasn't fair and that Half Life 2 would be more fair since it actually came out on the Xbox around the same time as Halo 2.  Those two games could be directly compared.

I hope you understand what I'm getting at now but one quick note.  When you make a fanboi type thread like this and put a fanboi type icon as your avatar, it's going to be very hard for people to take what you're saying as objective.

Just a head's up!

This thread is about Halo, that is a phenomenal within the gaming industry, that has changed the way people think of first-person shooters on consoles and that's also one of the finest first-person shooters ever, on any platform.

Half-Life is timeless. So is Halo

I don't think anyone will remember Halo in 50 years.

Half Life will still be in the video game museum however.

A certain type of gamer likes Halo and that's fine.  It's the same type of gamer who thought the movie Armageddon was quality entertainment.

  Halo will constantly be mentioned during the time that someone say, "first-person shooters".

Comparing graphics is not fair.  Now if you compared Halo or Halo 2 with Half Life 2 graphics, THAT'S fair, and Half Life 2 is far, far superior technically and artistically.  Hell, the phsyics of the gravity gun alone makes the presentation better.  The soundtrack?  That's debateable but I've never really cared about soundtracks in games so I'll give you that one.

The characters I say absolutely no.  Again, if you're comparing Half Life 2 to Halo, the characters in Half Life are so much more fleshed out it's not even a contest.  Half Life 2 was globally praised for making the engine which actually gave real emotion to faces and made you feel while playing the game.  Master Chief is nothing more than a generic super soldier ala Rambo.

The utter experience, well I'm not sure what that even means.  The Orange Box is considered the greatest deal in gaming history.  There is more replayability in Half Life and all its mods than in any game series in history including Halo.

I can see you and I are never going to agree.  I think it's just a generational thing.  I'm 35.  I grew up with games like the original Half Life.  I grew up on PC adventure games and the original Nintendo.  I'm betting you grew up with the Xbox which is perfectly fine.  We simply won't change each others minds because we come from different places.

Freeman is entirely dull - he never says a word! And Halo is far more prosperous and acclaimed.

The graphics, the soundtrack, the characters and the utter experience. As I see it, both Half-Life and Halo have captivating plots.

Halo just popularized FPSs for consoles. PC already owned the FPS genre. SolidGame_basic

Spot on. What the hell has Halo got on Half Life, Crysis, or any other respectable PC shooter for that matter?
