Why aren't there more CG video game movies?

I guess a better question would be, why aren't all video game movies CG? Well the ones that aren't anime from Japan at least. Oh Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie how you complete me, well the Chun Li shower scene at least.....did I say that out loud? Moving on to subject.

So I picked up Resident Evil Degeneration today in all it's Blu-Ray glory, it's actually my first Blu-Ray movie, and while it's not that great of a movie, it's definitely one of my favorite movies based on a video game. If you compare it to live action video game movies it's pretty good. If you compare it to any Uwe Boll movie...wait, bad idea. I don't want you to rip your own eyes out in horror. So this made me think "man wouldn't it be nice if more video game movies actually followed the games storyline, didn't have some douchebag that looks nothing like the character and can't act worth a crap, and the movie in general not being a total pile of crap." Resident Evil Degeneration is a pretty corny movie with cheesy dialogue, but for some reason (like the games) it works, unlike most live action movies which are unintentionally corny with cheesy dialogue and makes you want to punch the person sitting next to you in the face, granted I still punched the person sitting next to me in the face.

This is not the first CG movie based on a video game, there are the 2 Final Fantasy movies, 1 being pretty fun, and the other, well it was a 2 hour treat for the eyes but nothing else. The fun one however was Final Fantasy VII Advent Children. It was a beautiful CG movie, wished Resident Evil Degeneration looked as good as it did, but it really didn't have much of a plot other than a reason to string a long a bunch of awesome over the top action sequences, but it was still a fun movie for fans. So it makes me wander, what would these movies be like if they had a really good script and plot backing them up?

I kind of hope if we had more CG movies, and less focus on trying to turn video games into live action films, then we would finally start having really great video games movies that would please fans, and possibly even the average movie goer as well. Then again it could just be the novelty of seeing my favorite video game characters in CG for a full film and since there are so few CG movies based on video games it just seems fresh.

If anyone reads this feel free to leave a comment with your thoughts on this subject, and even your thoughts on CG, live action, and even anime movies based on video games in general.
