lulz @ Halo. in all honesty, no one in Asia or people outside Europe and the US even bothered with the Xbox and Halo when it came out. if you mean most popular

1. Mario

2. Pacman

3. Tetris

4. Pokemon

5. Street Fighter

It depends on what you mean by popularity. Today, 1 - 1.5 million gamers play Halo 3 on Xbox Live daily - that makes it much more popular than games like Street Fighter and Need for Speed. What game is more recognizable is another thing, so you see, it depends...

Also, Call of Duty. This franchise is a phenomenon when it comes to popularity.

1- Mario

2- Halo

3- Grand Theft Auto

4- Counter Strike

5- World of Warcraft

is this about right?

Mystery_Writer
 Didn't you forget a little franchise called Pokémon? It's at least 10 - 20 times more gigantic than names such as World of Warcraft. And in passing, the most popular and recognizable in the world are most likely Mario, Counter-Strike and Grand Theft Auto.

You provided evidence and based your conclusion upon this evidence, unlike many other System Warriors. You, Sir, have not given us fail, but win. Congratulations.

Yeah, thanks. I only create good threads.

Yeah, good for a laugh

What's your problem? This one is a splendid thread. I'm not here to troll, and I've used excellent sources.

I think you have wierd sense of scale. What you say is certainly one way to spin it. Let's extend your comparison to other games. Killzone 2, for instance. How do you describe KZ2's performance when ODST sells more in a couple days than what KZ2 sold in span of months? Don't give me whys and wherefores. Just apply your Halo 3 standard for comparison and tell me.

Killzone is a relatively new series, while Halo is the most successful first-person shooter series with its iconic character Master Chief. It's unfair.

relatively new? the series started in 2004 with the ps2. it came out 3 years after halo: CE. a relatively new series would be gears of war or mass effect.

Again, you can't compare Killzone to Halo. Killzone is nothing huge or spectacular. Halo is an iconic first-person shooters and is played by over a million each day. There is a clear popularity difference.

Only on system wars will you see posters trying to convince us that 2.2 million sales in a week is a bad thing.

SpruceCaboose
It's embarrassingly weak sales for a Halo game.

Huh? 2.2 million in a weak is embarrassingly weak? Not for any game anywhere. 2.2 million is incredibly good.

Maybe you didn't read me? Halo 3 sold more in its first day than this expansion managed to do in one week.

Good day, wise members of System Wars. Here's System Wars' approved sales analyst speaking. Halo 3's first expansion, Halo 3: ODST, has officially managed to sell 2.2 million units in its first week of availability - worldwide.[1] Over 2 million copies in one week is a great accomplishment, but compared to the previous Halo titles, Halo 2 and Halo 3, these numbers are not imposing. It's time to compare the sales of Halo 3 and Halo 3's expansion. While Halo 3: ODST did great by getting sold 2.2 million times to gamers in its first days, Halo 3 did a lot better. More than 31 million Xbox 360s had been sold before Halo 3: ODST launched.[2] It succeded in selling 2.2 million copies after one week on the market, as stated. When Halo 3 launched, however, less than 12 million Xbox 360s had been sold[3], and the mega popular game sold an astonishing 2.5 million units in 24 hours[4] - in the U.S. only, bringing in $170 million in U.S. stores on Tuesday only (September 25th)[5]. The comparison Halo 3: ODST: First-week sales (worldwide): 2.2 million on a 31-million user base. Halo 3: First-day sales (U.S. only): 2.5 million on a ~11.5-million user base. Now, great men of System Wars, do not misunderstand me - I love Halo and am not trying to bash it. I am - in company with my arguments - trying to say that Halo 3: ODST is a sales fiasco. Thoughts, clever members of System Wars? __________________ Sources: [1] - http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=5392&mp=1 [2] - http://www.gamespot.com/news/6216343.html?tag=recent_news;title;5 [3] - http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/more-than-116-million-xbox-360-consoles-sold [4] - http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117982551.html?categoryid=20&cs=1 [5] - http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4188/is_20070927/ai_n21025960/
