[QUOTE="Nibroc420"][QUOTE="HoolaHoopMan"][QUOTE="Nibroc420"] Clearly they're not doing it right.

Clearly the blacks weren't doing it right since it took them 150 years to get to where they are. Great way to look at it.

Last i checked, Homosexuals were never enslaved. Nice try though.

Nope, just put in federal prison for up to twenty years and marked as mentally deranged and treated on the same level as child molesters.

A five-year-old child is not at the age of accountability or of reason. To punish her as an adult is monstrous.

How about lobbying to get rid of that stupid tax law rather than give more benifits to same-sex couples? This is a step in the wrong direction. The right direction is to try to do away with stupid laws instead of trying to adapt to them.

Wasdie
Same sex couples are not being given "more benefits." they are getting the same amount of money as heterosexual couples. My God, what do you want a city in Massachusetts to do? Do you think gays all over the country haven't been trying to get rid of DOMA and other discriminatory laws for the past. . .forever?

Who here wants to bet Nibroc supports the Arizona immigration law based on "the local government doing what the federal government won't"?

[QUOTE="worlock77"]

[QUOTE="Nibroc420"] Everyone gets bonuses for being Black, or Gay or Disabled. Where's the love for the average straight white guy? Nibroc420

The average straight white guy gets a bonus by not having his benefits to or through his spouse taxed.

Thats not a bonus, that's a tax deduction. In this case, the Employer pays the married homosexuals MORE because they're married homosexuals.

I have a thirteen-year-old delinquent sitting right next to me right now who just said to me, "Man, that guy has no idea what he's talking about."

What exactly is the discriminatory federal tax that the stipend is supposed to counteract?

ImaPirate0202
It's right there in the article nobody wants to read: Beginning in July, the city will begin paying quarterly stipends to city employees in a same-sex marriage who must pay federal taxes on the value of the health benefits their spouse receives from the city. Federal law requires employers to calculate the value of the benefits received by a same-sex spouse as taxable income to the employee, but health benefits of an opposite-sex spouse as not taxable.

[QUOTE="scorch-62"][QUOTE="Nibroc420"]They're two entirely different situations. It's like saying "Rich people pay more in taxes. So this Amusement park is giving discounts to the rich" Either deal with the actual issue, or dont. But dont give better treatment/wages to someone because they're gay

It is a FEDERAL TAX. There is NOTHING that a STATE can do except try to OFFSET it. That's exactly what this is supposed to do. It's not supposed to give gays BETTER treatment, it's supposed to give gays EQUAL treatment.

Treating gays equally is giving gays special treatment!

You're trying too hard.

nope, If people in same-sex marriages dont like the way taxes work, then dispute them. The employer is clearly favoring the homosexuals in this situation by giving them bonuses.

 Keep it up; I'm laughing my ass off.

seems like a backwards step, they should be fixing taxes that are discriminative, not paying them off. That will just enforce boundaries.Overlord93
A city can't fix federal taxes.
