Unless it's like Guild Wars I'm going to have to pass. I don't like monthly fees and I would prefer it be a single-player story focused game anyway. Not the biggest MMO fan in the world.
They aren't very popular today because they don't work well on consoles and PC gaming is currently dominated by action packed FPS and RTS games. I enjoy everything from space sims to political sims and wish people would take more interest in the genre.
What would you consider equivalent? Some games that are poorly optimised console ports may not run well on some systems while well optimised ones would look far superior on PC. I think an Athlon 64 X2 5200, 2GB DDR2 and a Ge Force 8600 would give consoles a run for their money in most games and wouldn't cost much to build. $400-600 without looking up the exact prices.
If fighting games are important to you and you want a large library of good games get 360. If you want the largest library of games and the best graphics get PC. If you want to save money and still get some good games get Wii. If you want to wait for good games get PS3.
Who cares? It's their loss if they are missing out on games. This is true of casuals in generals and I think the main reason JRPGs are not popular in Japan is because they aren't the type of games casuals buy other there. Lack of exposure and lack of marketing would be the main reasons WRPGs don't sell well. I'm sure the 360 fanbase there will try Mass Effect, regardless of how small it is. Even Halo 3 and Gears experienced good sales when you consider how few 360 console are sold there.
