Why do you care why people care so much about sales?

Seriously, people usually bring up sales numbers when a product they like sales well, or when it could be used to downplay a product they don't particularly like.

That's not always the case though. Sales also represent public interest. If a game with decent marketing sells poorly (for its budget), it's safe to assume that many people just weren't interested in it.

They seem to be doing alright since they aren't in last place.

If the majority of the PS3's first-party exclusives are so amazing, why aren't more people buying PS3's to play them? Oh, wait.... it's because they are outclassed by multi-platform games.

I like Square Enix though. They publish and develop a few quality games, but certainly not a "lot" of them.

Never played it, and I don't really care for trophies. MGS4 is dirt cheap though, so I might pick it up one day.

FF games are one of the few Japanese RPG's that sell really well outside of Japan. If anything, "douches" that look like Tidus ARE more appealing to Western audiences.
