During the time of the dinosaurs, our ancestors where subterranean lizards. So where dinosaurs before they emerged. The reason life became subterranean in the first place was due to the first great extinction period which wiped out all of the primitive land reptiles which had only grown and consumed since leaving the ocean.
I know my evolution.

TC certainly doesn't, though.
Yes I do and I also know it is wrong.
Dude.
After leaving the ocean (which was originally for mating grounds away from Arthropod predators) all lizards basically consumed and grew. When the earth changed and left an inhospitable landscape all life basically died out except very small subterranean lizards. Imagine Gecko's.
As the earth's vegitation grew back, some of those lizards emerged and consumed and grew into dinosaurs. They where reliant on migration patterns and so later adapted to the widening medeteranian and evolved into birds.
Subterranean lizards adapted from laying eggs into keeping them in the womb during the time of the dinosaurs. They evolved into subterranean mammals. Imagine rodents.
mammals evolved into tree climbers much later on. The rest is finer primate evolution forced from the natural destruction of our tree climbing habitat thanks to weather changes.
EDIT: Summary corrected.
