This has been a heated topic for many Halo fans. While the general overview of the game is positive, views are still mixed on how good the game really is. Fans are still arguing whether Reach ends the series with bang, or with just a little nice thank you note. Do I think it ended the series with a bang? I say yes and no. The single-player was excellent, and it was better than Halo: CE's sequels. However, it could've been better. While the environments were bigger than past games in the series, the battles are only marginally so. It just didn't convey the expression that I was participating in a planetary scale war, but in big skirmish battles. The weren't any 40 A.I. or 20 vehicles on screen at once as Bungie promised. Also, the storyline was weak. The characters were poorly developed, and the game was missing the somber and hopeless tone that Reach was aiming for. That component only appeared in the game's ending. The multi-player is incredible, and better than the previous games. However, the fact there was no space combat was a wasted opportunity. The game could've also had planetary scale sized multi-player, that could have rivaled the Battlefield series. The graphics do look great, but they don't push what the 360 is capable of, like Mass Effect 2 or Alan Wake did this year. I will say the audio is excellent, with good voice work, great sound design, and amazing music by Marty. Still, it's a great game. It could've been better though, to the point where it could draw people who don't like the series or former fans who were "Halo'd out". It's only great, to those who are still fans of the series. I say it ends with a little bang, with a thank you letter next to it. I say Halo: CE is still the best in the series, and I give props to Halo 2 for revolutionizing online multi-player for consoles.

The series isn't over, only Bungie's involvement with it.DarkCatalyst
Oh yeah, I forgot. I should reiterate my question. Does Halo: Reach send of Bungie's Halo series off with a bang?

Why do you have games on your list that aren't even released yet?

[QUOTE="SAGE_OF_FIRE"][QUOTE="Trozyn"]I'll start off with my list 1. Deus Ex 2. Half-Life 3. Team Fortress 2 4. System Shock 2 5. Starsiege Tribes 6. Halo Combat Evolved 7. Crysis 8. Marathon 9. Doom 10. Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare Also, please don't add games like Portal, Thieff 1 and 2, Mirror's Edge or any Metroid Prime game. They are not first-person shooters. Just because a game is in first-person, doesn't automatically make it a FPS.

"don't add games like ...." ... then proceeds to list games like Deus Ex and System Shock.

The thing is, they're more combat focused depending how the player plays it. Portal, Thief, and Mirror's Edge restrict the combat model. Where as in Deus Ex and in System Shock 2, you can play the game 75% as a FPS. Which makes them FPS/RPG hybrids. Opposed to Portal, Thief 1 and 2, Mirror's Edge, where there is little combat within them.

[QUOTE="Trozyn"]For crying out loud! Metroid Prime is not a first-person shooter, its a first-person action/adventure game. Even the developers said so themselves.foxhound_fox

It is both a first person shooter AND first-person action/adventure. As much as I've tried to deny it over the years... Metroid Prime, Echoes and especially Corruption are shooters... but they are also action-adventures. It doesn't make them any less stellar. Is STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl a first-person survival horror/adventure because is focuses more on horror and exploration than shooting? Is Deus Ex a first-person role-playing game because it focuses more on giving the player a choice when approaching a situation than shooting? No. They are all first-person shooters... they just aren't generic and focused directly on the combat (also, generic isn't necessarily a bad thing either; Doom is quite generic, and quite fantastic).

Oh.... Well, in that case it all makes sense. It's just a shame that the first-person shooter elements in Metroid Prime aren't very good. Everything else is fantastic though.
