People seriously thought SSBB was good or better than melee? I loved Melee so much I bent over backwards to get past the disgusting evolution that is Brawl. Boring new characters, still clones, Garbage, unplayable Online, Pointless unlockables and so much filler stuff. It was the biggest let down i ever experienced and destroyed what I used to love about Nintendo. To me? their cashing in, they suck now, and the PS3 pwns it any day. And yes, im a hardcore gamer. And what?

CoreoVII

I've derailed enough threads with SSBB defense so I'll just say this: One (critically acclaimed) game completely destroyed your love for Nintendo games? :?

Sounds like I missed a hell of a thread. :P

Good to see that SW is still worth an essay to some, even if it gets the tl;dr treatment from its intended audience.

Never got into the MPs, but that is a pretty sweet deal. It's what the other Wiimakes should have been.

When people speak of competitive Brawl, they mean take out all items, ban certain characters, and Final Destination only. How is that fun or even competitive? Those are aspects that were included in the game that the player is supposed to cope with.

shoryuken_

No and no.

If items and crazy stages were included "for the player to cope with,"there wouldn't be an option to turn them off. They are there for those who want to use them, not for those who don't.

[QUOTE="PannicAtack"]I think the thing that makes competitive Smash worse than most other games for other consoles is the fact that competitive Smash goes directly against the spirit of the game. It's a multi-man brawler, full of colorful explosions and wacky stuff. When you go into Smash tourneys they cut like 4/5ths of the game content, where that meme of "No Items, Fox/MetaKnight only, Final Destination." In other words, the Stop Having Fun Guy.kenakuma

Yup, I hate when people play no items and FD, it completly sucks the fun out of the game. I like playing Super Smash Bros. only when there are people to enjoy it with. Keep the tourneys to games like SF4, Tekken, or Virtua Fighter.

Agree 100%, thats exactly what I said!

I get really competitive with fighting games like Street Fighter, and its fun as me and a couple of my freinds have been playing all the Street Fighters competitievly for years and years! Those games are designed more for competitive play and its funner to play them like that!

Now when it comes to brawl me and my freinds tried to get super competitive in it when it first came out (using no items, same boring level over and over again, no smash balls, set rules, ect) and it just felt horrible! After a week though we figured it out and threw that way of thinking out the window and now we enjoy the game waaaaaaay more and play it on a weekly basis, all the items, all the levels, super fun party game!

Why can't it be both? I'm a competitive kind of guy, but I can do the free-for-all party thing sometimes. Its versatility is part of the appeal of the game, but some people try and turn it into a negative. :?

But I go and play online and end up destroying evryone. ITs not even funny. I played maybe 25 matches and won 25 matches. I'm not even joking.

ActicEdge

In Basic Brawl, right? Riiiiiiiight. About that.

If you're so confident, put up or shut up. 3-stock, no items, FD. C'mon. ;)

Its kinda late right now but I have no problem with this. You say it like I can play that rule set on normal online lol. I'm also not sure how playing you will prove that that the vast majority of online smash players don't suck. But sure why not.

That's just it, the majority of online players DO suck. That doesn't mean you can compete against someone who doesn't suck, so let's see. Should be fun. ;)

I really hope this is a joke. I suck at fighters and even I can some what compete at smash bros.

ActicEdge

Ever heard the phrase "easy to play hard to master"?

Why's that? Because of the hype and score difference? Blue Dragon was hyped as AA/AAA and it even scored lower than Halo Wars. But even then, I still think Too Human takes the cake for the biggest Xbox 360 flop.

Stevo_the_gamer

Forgot about Blue Dragon. That would be my pick.

[QUOTE="Stevo_the_gamer"][QUOTE="AgentA-Mi6"]Out of those three none failed quite as hard as Lair, that was horrible I was really looking forward to that game.AgentA-Mi6
But it wasn't hyped as Game of the Year like Spore. :P

Lair Was Hyped Game of the Year... I was here back then and I remember it clearly

Cows hype everything GOTY. :P It somehow ended up with an "official" (lol) AA hype.

Spore was bigger, and I say this as someone who had a lot of fun on the day the 4.5 dropped. :D

...Just like TP.

Too Human's hype also wasn't very high near its release. I don't know if Halo Wars was the biggest, but it was bigger.

Stevo_the_gamer

True to an extent. Zelda has AAA on GR, Gamespot gave it AA -- barely missing AAA by a few tenths.

Halo Wars has AA on GR, Gamespot gave it B. That's quite the difference. ;)

Yes, and that would bea reason to name it the biggest 360 SW flop. After all, it's not like it matters how good the actual game is. :P
