Sony's online service requires 3rd parties to pay for games to be online.Ā  That's why Konami pulled the plug on MGS3 after a year and Capcom pulled RE: Outbreak after 2.

Name one game that you can't play online that was released on the xbox platform.

http://ps2.ign.com/articles/770/770381p1.html

March 5, 2007 - Hot on the heels of last week's news that Konami is shutting down the Metal Gear Solid 3: Subistence servers, Capcom has announced it will pull the plug on the Resident Evil Outbreak File#2 servers at the end of this month.

A post from a Super Moderator on the official RE Outbreak 2 forums reads: "Since Resident Evil Outbreak File#2 was released in August 2005 , Capcom has provided a server enabling consumers to experience the online element of this game free of charge. Regretfully, conditions now dictate that we must close down this server effective from March 31, 2007. Naturally it will still be possible to play the game offline, but the online component will no longer be available."

The post makes no mention of the original Resident Evil Outbreak, so it looks like the first online zombie game will remain in play.

Today Nielsen released data showing more than 4.4 million gamers now take their consoles online. But it looks like, with the recent console transition, companies are cleaning out some of their lesser-used online games

THIS IS exactly why XBL is a much better service because the whole network is a framework that it already in place ready for the developers to take care off... Cows always going on about how the PSN is free ... but dont realise that the developer has to pay for most of the setup and some developers are simply NOT prepared to do that .... whereas with XBL they dont need to worry about the architecture.... they just use the XBL libraries supplied by MS ... thats where part of our yearly subscription goes!

Ok, I have played all splinter cells compared to MGS ... so in fairness I cant say ...

But ever since Splinter Cell DA came out .... WTF.... its the biggest load of cr*p ever! ... having to play two sides etc, confusing storylines ... splinter cell was a series that really didnt need revamp like this at all ... they took out most of the tools on some missions .. "tried" to clean up the interface - when that was totally not needed ...

DA remains on my shelf collecting dust and uncompleted, my biggest gaming mistake yet .... apart from this pathetic sequel, I enjoyed all the others, but Pandora was my favourite

My last thread on this was locked so let me try againĀ with greater detail. Last year a substanial amount of lemmings on this site were backing HD-DVD to thrash Blu-ray. If Blu-ray wins won't that by definition be considered a flop? After all it would vindicate Sony's decide to include the format as standard in PS3 (I know it can be argued that conversely it also vindicates Microsoft's decision to not include HD-DVD as standard in 360, but lets get really here this gen is about the all in one set top boxĀ and without a standard dedicated HD format 360's case as a media hub is weaker than the competition's). With Blu-ray in the ascendency and HDTV penetration also picking up 360's appeal as a digital hub for the consumers entertainment needs will lessen. As Phil Harrison said recently, with the launch period fully out the way Sony's attention will shift to software, so the games will come. Couple that with the worldwide appeal of the Playstation brand, you have to ask: is this the period that will make or break Microsoft challenge to Sony's dominance. Will this be the year in which the cows' turn the tables on the Lemmings? Blu-ray, I suspect is the beginning of much ownage to come.Rashpal

Firstly well done for making a good point without sounding like a idiotic fanboy - I am a 360 owner and I am pleased with it. However since the last CES show (i think).... HD-DVD projections was a sheer disgrace in my opinion, blu-ray killed it totally...demonstrating a vast array of content... Im my own opinon I do think HD-DVD is kinda doomed ... other thoughts that have entered my mind are whether Ms could release a blu-ray addon much later in the future should blu-ray take the #1 spot (and it looks this way)...

I think something that Lemmings need to understand is, although the PS3 sales figures are a joke in comparison to the rival console, for every PS3 sold, that is a blu-ray player in their home ... which eventually will mean blu-ray disc sales .. sure there is a add-on for the 360, but lets me honest here.... we just want a gaming machine, many of us couldn;t care about the HD-DVD addon right now .... but that is hurting the support for HD-DVD (less market penetration).

Probs next year I may get a PS3 when it gets better... there is no doubt though that 360 is just such a winner... because at its heart its a Games Console.... everything else is just little add-ons .... the PS3 really doesnt know what it is any more... thats not a bad thing (well for gaming it is) .... it is an excellent hardware device .... just such a shame that the whole thing is run by the most ignorrant people in the world ....

I own a 360, not a Wii, so can only comment for the 360....

first off let me say its the best system for what you get with it i am not talking about games

#1 great hard ware more powerful then 360 and wiideadmeat59

[ Yes I guess the hardware is superior.... but if it is unfriendly to program for... then there isnt really much point is there.?... as developers struggle to get the true potential out of it ]

[QUOTE="deadmeat59"]
#2 blu ray for 600$ is a great deal if you got HD one of the main reason i got ps3 was cus it is a HD movie player

[ I think its great that you really wanted a HD movie player and you got it for 600$ ... but unlike 90% of us here all we want is a GAMES MACHINE and really couldn't give a damn about Blu-Ray or HD-DVD at all! - At least in this respect the 360 HD-DVD is an optional accessory so gamers are not 'FORCED' to have a NEW FORMAT! ]

[QUOTE="deadmeat59"]
# 3 easy to use interface

I guess so, was expecting a little more inspriation then a PSP steal... but the 360 also has a very friendly 'colourful' interface wouldn't you agree? ... PS3 cant really take the #1 spot all by itself here can it?
[QUOTE="deadmeat59"]
#4 you can put things from you pc to ps3 with more space then 360

[ PS3 does come with a good amount of space (60Gb) at a cost though... hopefully 360 will release a new HDD soon?... but to be fair the 360 does have good streaming capabilities also meaning you wouldn't 'need' to transfer videos and music directly to the HDD all the time. ]

#5 you can use psp with it in a few cool ways
deadmeat59

[ Well my psp has been laying is dust for months due to a rubbish lineup of games so at least that could be used for something...]

#6 wireles controller
deadmeat59

[ The best because it has a wireless controller?? .... errr... HELLO??? XBOX 360 has WIRELESS CONTROLLERS! ..... ]

[QUOTE="deadmeat59"]
#7 u can look at web pages

I know this has been said a thousand times, and I will repeat it only because it is soooooo true .... I use my 'computer' to use the internet to view web pages....

[QUOTE="deadmeat59"]
#8 free online

ditto, I guess the free online is a bonus... absolutley no match for Xbox Live at all.... but then again it is free so they wouldn't be able to fund its content unlike xbox live... just a shame they don't supply you with a cheap headset... not everyone has a bluetooth headset!

#9 it does not make much sound at all unlike 360
deadmeat59

ditto - yet to 'hear' the ps3. but I agree the 360 does make a racket

[QUOTE="deadmeat59"]
#10 it can play so many disc formates now these are just a few reason why the ps3 system is great. yes it does not have many games but it is getting a few big games this year.

Overall, nearly all your arguments for why the PS3 is sooo great are totally flawed ... there are some true points - but not many at all..

you start off the topic by saying that your not comparing the PS3 against the game library... but a fundamental law that has always applied to the gaming world is " THE GAMES MAKE THE SYSTEM " - this is one law that stays intact to this day and at the moment yeah the 360 is leading...and DELIVERING ..... sony has nothing to show, I will wait patiently as we all have for about a year... but as far as I am concerend the 360 is here, and you know it too.

I suggest you look more into the 360 because to say that the PS3 is the best because it has WIRELESS CONTROLLERS is just unforgivable ... clearly shows you know nothing about next gen systems...
