I can't imagine any scenario where they were able to take the Xbox 1 version and port it over and have it turn out this well.

I've already played it through twice on the PC, and this version isn't far off, the lighting is actually much better. The textures are noticably lower res, but the original contained some of the most crazy hi-res textures in any game ever (2048x2048 I think). The game was built around lowish-tech geometry and incredibly high detailed texture detail and shading.

The loading times are much, much shorter than they were on the PC (and I was running a 15K drive and plenty of ram); that is a really nice benefit as the frequent loads really detracted from the original, especially during the airboat sequences. It's arguably worth trading lower textures for shorter loads.

Aurally, the whole package is spectacular (especially when pumping it through a 1000 watt British system, /grin). Sure, HL2 is not big on music, but the atmospheric and action sounds are really amazing. Probably the best fidelity-wise I've yet heard - which is weird when you think about it. With so many games on one disc, you think they'd need to compress the sound more.

I'm glad console-only gamers are finally getting to experience all of this as it's meant to be.

[QUOTE="Shinoto"]

Im sorry, This I can not agree with. MS is probably one of the best companies to work for.Robnyc22

I'm a Consumer, not an Employee...one that plays on ALL platforms.....and the only Consumers that Microsoft cares about in terms of gaming are 360 gamers, that's it.

...PC gets the shaft, which is funny cause one would think MS would have an interest in PC gaming, apparantly from their actions they dont....and other platforms are essential non-existent.

Not exactly the kind of fate I'd like to see games by great third party developers like BioWare fall into.

They still seem to love thier games on PC.

Shinoto

You have got to be joking!!

In recent years Microsoft has been one of the worst publishers for PC gaming and Microsoft's "Game for Windows" campaign is the worst joke against PC gamers in Years.

Yeah.....MS sure loves their games on PC alright.....so much so it takes YEARS for games to come to the platform and when they finally do come they are horribly unoptimized and crappy ports.

They killed the Mechwarrior Franchise on PC, among others.

They try to push their lackluster Live! for PC service onto developers (which luckily many like Valve and even Epic for UT3 are turning them down left and right).....and I'm willing to bet the only reason Gears of War for PC looks to be a good port is solely because of Epic Games, and even with that MS managed to get their tallons into that in some way since they own the publishing rights by forcing Live! onto PC gamers, hopefully mod makers will find a workaround.

The only reason why Jade Empire for PC actually was a decent port with extra content is cause MS didn't publish it....2K did....and that port would have come sooner if MS hadn't tied things up for the PC version where BioWare finally just went to 2K to get it out.

At least with any big name EA published game I played, I never had to worry about a 3 year old game running like absolute crap on high end modern hardware, and the PC games EA has published for the PC platform in recent years have actually been good....which is FAR more then I can say about a majority of the games MS published for the PC platform.

In fact, I can't think of ONE good thing Microsoft has done for PC gaming in the past 5 YEARS....Not One.

Sure, they've done absolutely nothing compared to EA in the PC realm. Ages of Empires, Freelancer, Asheron's Call, Close Combat, MS Flight Sim and Combat Sim, Links, Fable, etc, are all just horrible games  , displaying the fact that MS can do no right on the PC. Much better you focus on the lackluster ports of one game franchise than these things as a whole. If you really can't think of ONE good thing they've done on the PC in the last five year, you must not be an AOE or Freelancer fan.

As usual, your opinion on this matter is driven by dislike of one company, not by any objective analysis, so much so that you overlook the SIMPLEST of FACT (while relying on ALL CAPS and underscores, etc, to get your argument across rather than a well constructed paragraph):

MS OWNS VERY FEW devs for their size. Very few.

We are talking about EA, the most monopolistic entity in the gaming industry, PURCHASING two of the most respected names in the game, and you argue that it's better than MS PUBLISHING their titles?

What kind of hate is that? Take it to system wars. You'd rather have all of these companies BOUGHT up by one monopolistic giant than have their games PUBLISHED by MS? That's a messed up attitude that shows far more concern for your fannish loyalites than the actual state of the industry.

This isn't about who publishes what; this is about who owns the creative talent that makes the product and not about who puts the game boxes on the shelf. If you really do care about the quality of the idustry, you should think about it in a little broader spectrum than "omgs M$ SUCKS."

EA's come around and published some quality titles lately, but it is possible that a critical mass is reached where competition is stifled and they no longer need to worry about putting out quality - which is exactly what happened with their sports division.

But hey, who cares if it all goes in the crapper as long as MS get in the balls, right?

Elevation Partners, not EA.

Edit: hmm, seems that was an old story when ricatello had left, or was leaving EA. Strange.

I don't think the last lock of your exact same thread was a mistake.

The 360 will benefit most of all from its stellar holiday season lineup.

1.) Where did you get the idea Halo is deserving of all that praise?1005

What an arrogant question. Where did you get the idea it doesn't? Because you don't like it and therefore the matter is settled?

That you haven't spent more than an hour playing it and, despite it getting widely praised from a wide demographic, you don't like the idea of it being praised, and that settles it?

2.) As someone stated a Movie needs a decent plot/script to work, and Halo doesn't offer much in terms of plot. So without a decent plot i guess its hard to write a decent script worth spending money on production etc.

1005

If done properly, the game could serve nothing more than a titular function. A good writer and director team could go many directions of this. It could be done as a gritty war movie focusing on one small part of the war. It could explore the religious and social views of the prophet. It would not have to be, and shouldn't be, "Halo 3: the Movie."

Anyway, it doesn't really matter what the director says. They are usually self-important and can be easily replaced if the legal issues are resolved.

I spent about 800 hours on WoW (no plan on going back to that black-hole). Outside of MMOs, I'd say KOTOR, Forza, Joint OPS, HL if you include all mods like CS and DoD.

For 30 yeah, if you don't want to invest the extra to get a Wii which will play GC games. If not it's definitely a worthy investment just for Eternal Darness alone.
