For the wireless controller I'm pretty sure you need the MS 360 receiever for Windows. Not sure if there's a workaround, just went out and bought one myself without experimenting.

I got it for RE4, and it works great and imo is the best pad on the market, but I don't see why you'd wan't it for those games, especially UT3. You'll probably be at a noticable disadvantage playing online.

F.E.A.R. Perseus Mandate - 6th
Herrick

Cool, I didn't even know they were planning to have another expansion. I haven't even played the 1st expansion yet. I hope the Gold edition of F.E.A.R. is down to $20 since I no longer own the actual game.

The real sequel to fear from monolith, the original devs, is called Project Origin. Perseus Mandate is a sequel in name only due to EA having rights to the name. I suspect Origin will be a much better title.

It's good you have a PCI-E mobo; that means you can move up to a 8800 GTS or GTX if you can afford it. An nvidia 7 series won't do Crysis or many upcoming games justice justice.

If your mobo takes 240 pin ram, you could get yourself a nice video card and another gig of ram and see what that does for you. If it's not enough of an upgrade for you, the new gpu and ram can be transfered over to a new mobo/cpu platform. Just do careful research to make sure what you buy now is compatible with what you might buy later.

Surprised to see such a low score for Folklore.

A 10 for the Orange Box though, wow. I think Edge has only given out 5-7 10 scores since the publication started in the early 90s.

Not at all. Just the North American rating standards and the unnecessary censoring of certain scenes.foxhound_fox

I don't like having to order from overseas (from GAME if any are interested), but this really isn't a case of censorship, but of corporate cowtowing. They could release AO versions for download or even standard e-tailing, and that's why it isn't censorship.

There's a broken releationship between the ESRB, publishers, console manufacturers, and retailers. The whole thing needs to be revamped; a rating system has its place, just not in the current form.

If I understand correctly, Epic is handling the port themselves, which is a strong indicator there's nothing to worry about. Worst case you wait for a review and see if some unlikely problems popped up during translation to the PC.

Outside of that, if you're denying yourself one of the best (single-player) games of the last several years just because there's no demo - just be aware it's your HUGE loss.

1680x1050, all setting in the demo and GPU control panel maxed.

Do you really think the realease is going to look THAT much better?

Hate to break it to you "Uncle_Tbag," but "bullshots," as they're called, are NOT done with PC games. They're done with console games, and it's usually a term used to refer to a screenshot with extreme filters applied, such as 4xSS @ extremely high resolutions that would not be even remotely possible in-game at decent framerates on console hardware.

Obviously such things are not necessary on PC because PC hardware is scaleable.Velocitas8

Not done on PC games. You've advanced pretty far into system wars logic with that one. I've already been wisely advised to drop this because I'm dealing with fanboys who don't give a damn about logic or truth. Don't really know why I'm bothering, but maybe I can at least demonstrate that this type of activity goes with both PC games and consoles.

PC games are scalable. They are not INFINETLY scalable as your argument necessitates. Current gen hardware is not cabable of rendering the screens that are posted in this thread. It's not possible to have 32 or 64 models of that caliber running around a huge, highly detailed map of the kind UT3 provides. It is IMPOSSIBLE on today's hardware and likely on the next gen's as well.

That screenshot of Malcolm IS IN-GAME and quite clearly using actual game resources. The screenshot is taken with the console command "togglescreenshotmode," WHICH DISABLES ALL HUD ELEMENTS. It even functions in the demo.Velocitas8

Yeah that, or it was a pure render with no hud, ai, or physics running. You think going from four world detail (because there actually is a difference between 3 and 4 in world detail) to five and from 3 to 5 in texture detail will make that much of a difference? We're not talking about minor differences that need screenshot comparisons to be recognized; we're talking about huge leaps in fidelity to reach the level of character that is trumpeted by the fanboys here.

That screenshot looking better than the demo is MEANINGLESS because the demo doesn't include maximum quality resources. At least wait for the game to hit shelves before you make a total ass out of yourself.

Velocitas8

No, when the game actually comes out, I'll post my own screen, and since you've already lain down the gauntet, proclaiming those in the wrong on this issue "asses," you won't be anywhere in sight. But until then, here's a taste of the humiliation: the PC BULLSHOT, which you claim doesn't exist:

As Crytek has begun the final push to get the game out the door, I think they've begun to realize just how much visual fidelity they'll need to sacrifice in order to ship a game that's playable on mainstream hardware. . . The graphics were pretty, but they weren't nearly as sumptuous as all the early screenshots have been . . . EA allowed the press to shoot video of the multiplayer games, but they wouldn't allow us to take our own screenshots

Sometimes companies show off their games too early, overestimating techonoligcal progress and overestimating their ability to optimize an engine. It happens and it happens all the time; moreso on the consoles, but the PC is far from immune.

Uncle_Tbag,

It's clearly in-game because the weapon model looks exactly the same as in the demo except in the demo it has lower textures.ElectricNZ

No offense, but I don't think you're familiar with the concept of devshots. They take (sometimes) in-engine screenshots and applying a sick amount of AA/AF to them, like 32x/32x, and then render them with no AI or anything else going on, often time on high-end workstations.

I also did stop to consider that you were agreeing with part of my post.

If you still think otherwise then you'll just have to wait for the final release of the game wouldn't you? I took this screenshot from gamespot screenshots, are you telling me that the 70 or so screenshots are actually no representing the final product? The screenshots from ign etc are all of the same quality. As far as I remember screenshots on these sites have always been taken from in-game.ElectricNZ

No, every game site posts developer media long before the game is done, and this in no way indicates it's in-game. (How can shots be in-game when they're often posted many months before the game even in beta?)

This was posted on GS, and going by your logic that means it's a true representation of the game's visuals:

Hate to break it to to, but the game does't look anthing like that even though that scene appears in the game. The above is what I mean by devshot, but according to your logic, since I pulled it from GS, it must be in-game, right?

"It's funny that we always say how the PC online community is so much more mature than the console community, and then people like you come along and provide data to suggest otherwise."

You're calling me immature, ok compare me to to the person I was arguing against? You say "people like you", I participate in WCG nationals for CS and am a tournament organiser for both the largest (hosts national WCG) and second largest lan CSS tournament in my country, I also host my own public lan. I think I represent the "more mature" and possibly "respectable" cohort of PC gamers.

ElectricNZ

Is it common practice for organizers to call people names when faced with any kind of disagreement? Or is coming here and mistreating people just a way of letting off steam? I'm curious, because you aren't doing a very good job of representing your organization. This attitude of "I can treat people howevery I want because I organize lan matches" is pretty sad.
