I wouldn't count on it staying at number 1, despite what an amazing game I'm sure it is. Many, many games have debuted in the top five (Ninja Gaiden, DMC1, off the top of my head) only to fall after more reviews come in. Metroid Prime is the only game in the last two gens that debuted that high and stayed there. The only one.

I'm sure the same thing will happen with the orange box, currently sitting at 5 and 6. Although it is nice to see at least 1 PC when it's such a woefully underrepresented platform at GR.

dvader654

Resident Evil 4??

But I agree, there are a ton of more reviews to come, probably about 100 in total when its all finished, it will be hard to stay at that level. It would have been hard for OoT to do it if it had 100 reviews.

RE4 is at #8, and notice I said top five.

I'm not going by how amazing a game is or isn't, just the extreme rarity of a game staying in the top 5, even 10, based on the typical review inflation that occurs in the first month of release. It's a game's honeymoon period - just look at how many people thought Bioshock was the second coming after the first reviews came in; that didn't last long did it? Not that I'm comparing the two games at all (I mean Bioshock is far superior - teeheehee ;) )

I don't think it's going to be half that short for most people who are into this type of story-dialogue driven RPG.

It has 200,000 lines of dialogue. You won't be able to read half the dialogue in 13.5 hours if that's all there was to the game.

VG Talk

"I completed the single player game on a combination of Normal and Hard difficulty at character level 42 in a little over 23 hours. I'd imagine folks could possibly blow through the single player story in 12 to 15 hours if they avoided all the side missions, but they would miss out an enormous amount of entertaining material."

So yeah, if you want to rush through it on casual, ignoring most of the story, which is really the focus of the game by all accounts, as well ignoring most side-missions and exploring, 12-16 hours is obviously doable. Unfortunately that defeats the whole purpose of the game and I can't see most people who are attracted to this game playing in such a fashion.

There is always a certain attraction for early release holders to run through a game as quickly as possible solely to try and spoil some of the anticipation. I was given the same treatment with KOTOR and ended up spending over 70 hours on my first playthrough because I listened to all the dialogue and explored every nook-and-cranny, and I expect the same thing from ME.

Hey foxhound.

I don't want to say you are wrong but the Wii isn't really the best choice this generation. The people that I know who are gamers are fair but we rarely talk about the Wii or play it. It's still Halo 3 since it was released and besides Super Mario Galaxy we have all kind of ignored the little box. So far it seems that the devs aren't doing such a good job because we are interested about games for the PS3 and 360 much more.

Nifty_Shark

You shouldn't be afraid to say he's wrong, because he is in saying that "everyone loves the Wii." Just dead wrong.

3rd part devs at this point are doing a horrible job. Look at any gaming magazine, look at the top titles coming out over the next 12 months; a vast majority of them will have one of two labels: PC/360/PS3 or PSP/PS2/Wii. Those are two pretty divergent development camps, the latter of which is not going to appeal to everyone. For a good majority of people it's simply a virtual bowling machine and nothing more (software sales back up this assertion 100%).

Someone here said this is the first time they haven't bought a new console within a few months of launch. THis is the first console I've purchased at launch and then GIVEN AWAY as a Christmas present within a month (just figured my cousin would have more fun with it).

My losing interest had nothing to do with the Wiimote. I think it's quite a nifty devince. My loss of interest stemmed from the complete crap lineup outside of Zelda at the time.

Maybe I'll borrow it back from him for SMG. For me, it's a great machine to have a few weeks every 4-6 months when the top tier 1st party titles hit. That's still not worth $250 though nor the shelf space or wire clutter.

Ouch... too bad for the 360. And here some people thought it actually might outsell the wii this holiday. :)Dire_Weasel

Considering it's going to sell about 500% more software than the Wii I think it's in pretty good shape.

When your strongest software offering month to month for the entire year is a controller with a tacked on $10 set of mini-games you have to look a bit further than consoles sold to determine who's really in the lead. The 360 is still the console to beat based on a solid year of month to month complete software dominance.

I hate to douse all of you in cold water, but Microsoft said there would be NO ACHIEVEMENTS, AND NO ADDED MULTIPLAYER!

It's ok, it's ok... I'm sad too...

GodModeEnabled

No achievements? No buy. Not when I can get most xbox games for between $5-$10 at my EB now.

Most aren't that cheap. A good deal of the top titles run $15, many more run 20-25, and top tier games like Halo still go for $25 used.

The prices for all 672 titles are listed on ebgames, so will be an easy way to find out which games are worth the points.

Those hoping that these games might be re-tooled, gussified before going up on the new service are in for a shock.

They are not re-tooled at all, and in fact, they run "imperfectly" according to Microsoft. Using certain features of Xbox Live while playing one of these causes system glitches and lockups.

So, let me get this straight:

Worse versions of old games, that Microsoft owns instead of you, that can't be played offline if played on a repaired system that didn't download them originally. All for about two or three times what the cost of buying the actual retail version from a B&M would be.

Yeah, no thanks.

Shame-usBlackley

I'm not sure what to make of this yet. The physical copy of Fable suffers the exact same audio problem (it's quite nasty and I never play the game very loudly as it sounds harsh on the speakers), and Halo already has the forementioned framedrops.

I didn't expect the games to be "gussied up" (achievements take developer time that I knew would not be invested from the moment I heard about this), and I do think it's way to early to make a blanket statement that they are releasing "worse versions."

[QUOTE="Shame-usBlackley"][QUOTE="ShenlongBo"]I don't know about that, man. I didn't own the original XBOX, so I have very, very few XBOX games, but I don't see myself downloading games when I can get the hard copies for potentially cheaper prices. Something about the whole downloading of games doesn't sit well with me. You don't actually have anything that you download, you know? And if your 360 bites the dust and you get a replacement, the only way you can enjoy your old downloads is to be connected to Live. So what if I decide I don't want Live one day? Yep... all the downloaded games and movies I "bought" are gone till I pony up for online service again. Rip-off.

This is a complete waste, in my opinion. Anyone with any sense would opt to buy the hard copies of these games used instead of getting the digital versions.

EdgecrusherAza

That's an excellent point. I keep forgetting that Live content is only valuable as long as the system is viable. That is, assuming you finish the generation on a 360 you didn't start with (which is, let's face it -- most everyone).

Yeah, now that you mention it, I don't think I'd be too keen on Microsoft owning my copy of anything. Perhaps they'll knock it off with the DRM stuff or figure a workaround, but in the meantime, probably better tobuy a hard copy.

Not to mention, I hate being taxed on make believe points for non-physical copies of games. I don't mind so much for older, cart-based games, but when it comes to games on disc, well, I'd rather have a hard copy.

You don't need gold, and Silver is free.

[QUOTE="Forerunner-117"]dude i'm getting a rig from avadirect for only $1227 (after shipping)! It's a Core 2 Duo E6750, 2GB of OCZ RAM, XFX 8800GT. I'm so excited! :D can't wait to play Crysis!oldskooler79

No offense but your getting ripped. I paid under $1300 and have a Q6600, 8800GTX, 2gb gskill ram, 36gb raptor, evga 650i mobo, 750w sli certified psu, tuniq tower, etc all built myself inside an Antec 900 case. I'll possibly be able to run Crysis at 1920x1200 with no aa, once patches and optimization come along later.

$1300 is really pushing it. I honestly don't believe it's a $1300 PC.
Also most of us need monitor and decent HDD, Vista alone takes over 15GB of space.
So realistically this PC will come out close to $1700 with monitor and extra HDD.

Believe what you want, but I have the reciepts to back my claim. Yes, every part I mentioned came to a total just under $1300. A 36 raptor is a solid choice to install the OS and apps. I haven't bought into the Vista hype yet.. tried it but don't like it. I'll think about it when SP1 comes along. I have a 750gb WD perpendicular drive which is really sweet and runs my games as fast as the raptor, but I didn't include this because it would up the cost.

As for the monitor, I found a Sony 24" widescreen FW900 crt monitor for $150 locally on Craigslist. Went to test it for myself and it rocks. This particular monitor was (and still may be) used by Pixar and the quality is beyond that of my Sony 34XBR960 (the holy grail of hdtvs).

Shop smart, and build things yourself to save $ and enjoy more frames and eye candy in your fav games. If you don't know how or nervous to do it yourself, perhaps you have a friend or teacher whom can guide you?

I wouldn't say he's getting ripped - not all people feel comfortable building their own rig, and what he got is much better than anything from a big-name builder.

You probably feel like you got so much of a better deal because you picked a low-end mobo and the cheapest possible ram, plus didn't include the cost of OS or optical drives. Maybe that's something you took from a previous build, but it still counts towards the cost when someone is building scratch with nothing to cannibalize. And no offense, but your TV may have been the holy grail 3, almost 4, years ago, but a 34" 1080i tube doesn't really fall in that category today ;)

Windows live is complete BS... its doing nothing and charging for it.

Already am paying for live on my 360 sure as hell aint going to do that on my PC not thank you Id rather use that money and buy 2 more games.

£40...:o eat S*** MicroSoft.

- Vista improving performance

- DX10 improving performance and graphics

- Window live...

= All BS

sadikovic

You only need to pay for one account. If you have Live gold on the 360 it automatically transfers to the PC.

I don't see it as being a big deal for pc only gamers, but if you already have a 360 account it's a very nice freebie.

It was also foolish to think Vista was going to give big improvements right out of the gate. Anyone mildly in the know knew it was going to take time to become a worthy replacement for XP. Same thing happened in the 2K to XP transition.

Might want to check your facts before telling whomever to eat whatever.

To everyone else, you owe it to yourself to play this game. Forget about the multiplayer; it offers probably the best single player campaign of 2006. 30 GOTY awards wasn't a fluke.
