You're right, it will be the PS3's 5th anniversary at the end of 2011. However, I think there is NO chance that MS will announce the next Xbox at E3 2011. Why would they? They've just release Kinect which is essentially a relaunch of the console, it will bring in a ton of new customers for them. Also, they're picking up steam with the 360 and are selling a lot of consoles. Why cut it loose already? Its better for Microsoft to milk the 360 until its last breath before releasing the successor.

Why abandon it now when its done a damn good job at cutting into Sony and Nintendo's market share and is still selling in high volumes? Also, when I say abandon I really mean abandon. MS didn't support their last console after the successor came out, unlike Sony.

Kinect is doing well right now, but its Christmas.

I really think that Kinect is going to slow waaay down come Feb and March.

But with or without it, Microsoft doesn't have much left for XBOX 360, and minus Gears 3, which is really just more of the same, 2011 looks quite barren.

Sony on the other hand, they've got a full card for 2011....some months they are going to have 3 exclusive games release...maybe even 4. They are really going to put a beating on the XBOX 360 for the first half of 2011.

But that's when Microsoft is going to do what it has always done best this gen...they are going to spoil the PS3's parade.

At E3, I can definitely see Microsoft announcing XBOX 3. They'd have the enitire industry, once again, talking about Microsoft.

Keep in mind, just because Kinect works for XBOX 360, doesn't mean it can't work for XBOX 3....I mean, the thing uses USB, right?

Also, think about it....Microsoft is probably wanting to come out first again....2012 is the perfect opportunity to do that without pissing off developers and the industry overall, because 7 years is a long time for a console cycle.

Bookmark this, because I'm predicting it.

I still cant believe that next year will be the 5th year of this generation of consoles, they still haven't sold all that well and they don't feel that old either. Microsoft and Sony probably want to prolong this generation until they sell more, Nintendo on the other hand could go whenever.

Also, it just doesn't seem like we've had enough games yet. We've seen the release of one GT game, one GTA game, one RE game, one DMC game etc etc. With increasing development costs, developers probably don't want to rush into the next gen either, they've spent millions building engines for these consoles and most of them haven't made too many games.

I'm thinking this is gonna be a longer gen, new consoles will come in fall 2013 or early 2014.

XBOX 360 is already past its 5th anniversary.

The current console generation started November 2005.

Microsoft will probably announce its next Machine at E3 2011 and tell us it will be ready for launch Holliday 2012.

That will be a full 7 years, btw.

Ok...just finished watching the whole vid, and they are indeed the same. I see no difference, and for anyone to say that there is, I'd think they were lying.

That said, If given the choice between the 2, clearly the the PS3's version of DEAD SPACE 2 is unequivicly the best and definitive version to buy because the PS3's version is getting all of the free content.

Not only that, but personally, if given the choice between a BluRay and DVD, BluRay is gonna win everytime just on the strength that BluRay's will last longer because they are much harder to scratch.

I've had scratched and messed up DVD's before, but I have yet to scratch and mess up a BluRay disk.

But yeah...DEAD SPACE 2 is gonna be best on the PS3.

Isn't this game led developed on the PS3?

Don't get me wrong, I'm a gamer. My fav. shooter this year is BFBC2....it was great...well, the multiplayer was at least....the single player was a bit of a let down...but that's for another time.

The point is, I want my games to drop my jaw on the floor....I want that "oh spit" moment. I want games to be impressive.

What I'm saying is, is so far, Crysis 2 hasn't done that yet

I'm still patiently waiting on that moment out of Crysis 2.

That's all I'm saying...there's no bias here...just the truth.

For the longest time, I've been hearing about how Crysis 2 is gonna be this be all end all, and prove once and for all that Multiplatform games can be every bit the tech. marvels as 1st Party exclusive games.

But I gotta tell you folks, to date, I've seen nothing super impressive about Crysis 2 for consoles. I mean, this pic and others look nice, but nothing that has made my eyes open wide. I've seen nothing nothing that has made me stop what I'm doing and say "holy spit...that is sick".

Killzone 3 has made me do that on many occasions....I mean the first time you see that Melee eye gouge kill animation, how can you not have your jaw dropped?

I'm sure Crysis 2 on consoles will be a nice game.....but so far....all I see is another shooter...something along the lines of Singularity. We'll see, I guess....but color me underwhelmed at this point.

Over the next 4-8 years we are going to see a HUGE push and in most cases everything is going to be digital download. MS will have no problems with this and they want this. MS is a software company the best in the world at that so they can build any amazing software DD function and make it super snazzy just like Live already is and it will sell like hot cakes and be the standard.

Sony on the other hand has been currently and will seem to always not be in the drivers seat when it comes to software services. Sony is a hardware company. It's been close to 5 years and they still are working on PSN. It's becuase they don't have to resources or specialize in this.

Funny thing is Michal Patcher calls PSP2 dead in the water at launch? Not saying it is true I want one myself.

Back to next gen systems. What I'm saying is the next gen systems and beyond are mainly going to be DD and in the cloud in some form. Sony clearly is not the industry leader when it comes to this. Again they are a hardware company. So what we will have is MS will easily be the standard when it comes to software and DD type services. And Sony will be 2nd rate in comparison.. Also look at it this way it has already happened this gen as we have slowly transitioned into much more online and software services MS has clearly dominated this. It's only going to continue much further with this trend especially with the next gen systems.

Next generation will not be mostly DD.

In this case, you fail to understand the symbiotic relationship between the hardware makers and the retail chains.

In order to sell hardware, MS/Nin/Sony need retail. They need the Best Buy's, the Targets, the Walmarts, Gamestops, the KMarts, the Toy R' Us's, Sears, etc, etc.

Years ago, I used to work at THE GOOD GUYS, and I can tell you that retailers don't typically make much money from the hardware....in fact, it was kind of a waste of backroom and warehouse space to stock consoles, because as a commissioned salesman, the margin was almost non existant. But you know where they did make their money? They made money on the SOFTWARE. The margin is in the software.

This is particularly why ONLIVE is going to fail. Why is Best Buy's going to sell this when there's nothing in it for them? In fact, Onlive's total business model is totally detrimental to Best Buys....it threatens their whole way of life, so to speak. So why sell it? Guess what? They won't. And even if they could manage to convince BB into stocking it, can you imagine how it would end up....in the back of the corner of the store barely seen and barely touched, out of sight and out of mind. There's simply no incentive for any retailer on this item.

Also, Currently, there's way too many people that still go to retail stores today...way too many people that insist on having that piece of actual product, the case, the disk, the book and cover art. That won't be changing in time before the next generation starts.

But back to hardware.......The bottom line, If they don't have software to sell, then they won't be selling any hardware either. That's where that symbiotic relationship comes into play. That's why there will still be Disk Drives of some type in the next gen systems.

When Playstation University stops using bunk numbers, total software sales were more then 353.8 million at that time for the 360, it was also higher on the Wii yet they don't reflect that...
The chart on that page is as valid as Sony's charts over the years showing the features of the systems where you were some how required to purchase a hard drive to play all games, and other out right lies about the Wii and 360.
