The BIG Update
by UzEE on Comments
I saw the BIG update today. By that I mean the update to the User Icon. So now we can have an 80x80 px Icon. Cool. I will start making a new version for my self too.
Also I have been noticing lately, that people post videos in thier blogs. How do the do that. I mean I dont get the option to post a video in my blog. There is no button, or anything else for that matter. If anyone among you knows how to do that then please tell me too. Thanks. And Stay tuned for my next real blog post.

Intel unveils prototype of 80-core Processor
by UzEE on Comments
A lot of you might already know it. But it was so cool to leave out.
The Following news article is taken from http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2007-02/13/content_5733203.htm
WASHINGTON, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- Intel Corp. announced that it has designed a computer chip prototype which contains as much as 80 cores, performing more than a trillion calculations per second, U.S. media reported on Monday.
The world's biggest chipmaker said the unprecedented programmable computer processor, not larger than a fingernail, can conduct about a trillion calculations per second, a "teraflop." However, it accomplishes this unbelievable performance with just 62 watts of power when the chip is running at a frequency of 3.16 gigahertz.
The super multi-core processor can deliver "supercomputer-like"performance to home computers and handheld devices. "Our researchers have achieved a wonderful and key milestone in terms of being able to drive multi-core and parallel computing performance forward," said Intel chief technology officer Justin Rattner at an IT annual meeting in San Francisco.
A similarly powerful supercomputer at the U.S Sandia National Laboratories, built by Intel in 1996, took up more than 180 square meters, used nearly 10,000 Pentium Pro processors, and consumed more than 500 kilowatts of electricity. Intel's new research chip achieves the exact same performance, but on one multi-core chip.
Although Intel's latest super-chip is still in the research phase, but it marks an important breakthrough for an industry obsessed with obtaining the highest amount of performance for the lowest energy consumption.
Intel is emphasizing that the final version of the processor --which will have 100 million transistors -- will be different from the prototype and will take from three to eight years to reach themarket.
The chip could, in future, let ordinary users access such advanced techniques on their computers as speech recognition, ultra-realistic gaming and artificial intelligence.

Accidentally Killed My Girlfriend
by UzEE on Comments
We were both going on a nice motorbike ride, to a place just outside of town to get something to eat. While crossing the river bridge, I tipped the needle and went clear over the speed limit. But it was ok since I do the all the time. But then, suddenly a truck just pulled over just ahead of me. I tried to go around it, and hit the bridge fence. After that everything started spinning and I fell down. Luckily I wasn’t that much hurt. I got up and looked for my girl. But she was no where in sight. I took a peek over the bridge, and there she was, in the water.
She must have flown off when the bike hit the fence and fell into the river. Plus she couldn’t swim (I hate when that happens). So eventually she drowned and took the one way boat to the great river beyond. The problem was that I didn’t realize the complexity of the situation. I got on my bike (which was barely in a running condition) and when down the bridge to the riverside in hopes of finding her. Obviously she wasn’t there. I thought that now I should go home. On the way back, I just happened to check either she was back home or not. Her car wasn’t there so I assumed that she might not be home now (I didn’t notice the icon).
I went home and saved because I had done a lot of stuff before that. After a couple of days, I just went to her place to check up on her, but she wasn’t there. As I was about to leave I saw it, there was no icon on the map. At first, I thought it was just a glitch, so I reloaded and went there again only to find the same scenario. I then realized that if your girl dies, she actually “dies” and she is not there anymore, gone completely. And on top of that, I had saved the game after the incident. So this left me in a dilemma, either load from a previous point or continue life without her. I had did a lot of stuff before taking her out, (finished the boat school, completed 12 levels of Firefighter, won 12+ million by playing black jack at the Four Dragons), which was obviously not an easy task to accomplish again. On the other hand I had to risk continuing the game with one less girl by my side. That’s why I decided to lay off for a while and maybe get some advice from other people. So, what would you do if you were in my shoes.

The Orkut Mania
by UzEE on Comments
Google’s scheme, which now calls dating, ‘Business Networking’, has swept the youth all across the world. So if dating can be termed business networking, I guess its safe to say that I am studying human anatomy and agriculture at the same time when I am running people under my combined harvester in San Andreas.
In the world we live in today, everyone knows about orkut.com, Google's interpretation of Business Networking. While not as popular in the west, It has become the essential part of the online culture here in Asia. With millions of users from Middle East, India and Pakistan, everyone over the age of 15 who has access to the internet uses Orkut. More specifically, the Orkut virus is the most successful viruses of all time. You don’t even know your infected, and it doesn’t stop there, you are urged to invite more and more people on Orkut so you can grow your so called business network. I was not into this thing. Sure I like a community, associate with friends and people, but being brain washed and picking up chicks is not socializing. Therefore, I dedicated this post to show what I got from being on Orkut.
As I stated, I didn’t want to join, but a friend of mine, after 12 unsuccessful months sending me invitations, finally compelled me to join. I use Yahoo! as my email provider, and luckily I never get stuff from orkut in my mail. Not even invites from my friend. So in order to join, I had to create a Gmail account. I was reluctant to use a Google based service, knowing that Google had privacy issues. But I did it, I filled out the form and signed up with orkut. Then the site wanted to know about my details, like career info, about my school, college and the other stuff. That’s ok, I can understand it, but why in the world did it want to know my martial status, about children, my drinking or smoking habits, my sexual orientation, and other personal information that is otherwise required by a dating site. Anyways I as always did supply the information they required so that can continue and pursue my objective. After a few more queries, it said that my profile is finished and now I can add people into it. Since being a gamer, I naturally hunted for other gamers and added them to my friends list. And thus the experience began.
The First Day
Activity was rather low on the first day there. I snooped around communities and took part in rather aimless discussions as like “Is Area 69 a better place to steal a Patriot or should the Easter Basin base get the glory” and “Who sucks most in the WWE”. I mean this stuff was totally meaningless. If you want a Patriot, just get from whichever location is the closest to you, and the WWE is full of suckers on their own merits. I also viewed some other profiles and researched better communities. Found some related to my University and hometown but they also focused on nothing. I then took the liberty and added some people into my friends list from the university community. After that, there was no more action here; either that or I was too busy reading the Vista Performance Guide here on GameSpot.
The Second Day
I log in the next day (Yesterday) to finds a couple of scraps (or comments) waiting for me. Most of those greetings or invites to meet each other, but the most notable thing was a request for a testimonial from a guy. I knew him since we go to the same university, so I wrote one for him. I wrote what I thought of him and he rejected it stating that it was not proper, and I should do it again. So I redone the previous one and wrote him a new one. He approved it at first. But then hours latter I find another scrap saying that he deleted it and another, rather flaming testimonial about me (which I cant post here, because it contained strong language). Even though he had provoked me, I remained calm and approved his testimonial, because it depicted his feelings about me. This is the main thing a testimonial should do, rather than claiming false, sugarcoated attributes about one. So I wrote him a new testimonial and told him what a testimonial really is, but guess what it again got rejected, and this time the reason was that “it didn’t say what I wanted it to say. Put something in it what the girls would like, so I can get more chicks.” This came for a guy whose profile strictly states that he is here for business networking. I refused to write another one for him, so he went berserk and signed up on GameSpot just to take revenge on me. He made strong comments about me in my blog under a fake name “CharmedNemesis” but I didn’t moderate them. Instead I left them there for the world to see.
I didn’t make an entry for day three because its still in progress. It will be released though if you’re interested, maybe tomorrow or on Sunday.

Vacation Time
by UzEE on Comments
My exams are finally over and I am headin home for a 2 weeks vacation before the start of the next semester. I did screw up in one of the test and I am not expecting any good grades right now. In the early months of this semester I thaught that I can get atleast 3.7 GPA but now even 3.1 is doubtful.
Anyways I wont worry about that for a couple of days. Since I am finally home you can expect a lot of activity from me. Of the things i have planned, I am going to get my Driver's Liecence in the next week and I am also considering to upgrade my PC. Since Vista is finally out and dx10 GPUs have hit the market, its an idealistic time to get something new.
I plan to get level 15 during the vacations, and also hit 1000 Posts in the forrums. I know its not much but for a guy like me, Its enough. I also might add a couple of reviews and videos, if I find the time from gamming.
I plan on getting an X360 in a couple of weeks but the only problem is that I cant find an official retailer here in Pakistan. Until then I will keep gamming on my PC and PS2. Well, I am about to sleep so wait till my next post for More...

2006 Game of the Year! Was there any?
by UzEE on Comments
So Gears of War is awarded 2006 Game of the Year. But let me make a quick comparison of 2006 with previos windows like 2004 and 2005. Marked by the release and delays of the Next-Gen, 2006 was supposed to change it all.... but to me, in the end, it missed its mark.
The expected spring launch of PS3 along with the expectations of installments from major franchises like Metal Gear Solid, Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, Halo and many other let the industry down. Infact, probably, the only thing that did not backfire was Nintendo Wii. Sure, the PC finally got Vista and Core 2 but then again DX10 is still off in the horizon, maybe Spring 2007 or later.
So, a final conclusion may tell that 2006, if at all did some benifit, for the industry, it sure was not enough to make up for the losses. And in the absence of the industries major franchises, I guess Gears Of War had no competition after all.
This is it for today. My keyboard isnt working corectly so I have to make this one short. Lets hope and pray that 2007 will be a better year for us.
