Show them a Vampire turtle :|

Seriosuly though, psychologically for sure. I mean seeing some being ripped apart is bad but the true horror is the screaming and the agony that can have a negative impact on your mind forever.

Emotional scars, are harder to ignore than emotional scars.

And about showing a Vampire Turtle... perhaps I'll get to work on that :P

In defense of gore:

While pyschological terror always scares me(It's not whether you're scared during the movie. It's whether you worry afterward.) I find that gore, when used correctly, can make a film truly horrifying. (Brief detour here:Horror creates a feeling of disgust and sickness, terror is the one that makes you feel scared) I ask you, what would be scarier in real life? Having your friend simply disappear? Or thinking they're just in another room and seeing them laying on the ground, throat slashed? The best way to use gore(in my opinion) is not to show the gory act, but rather it's aftermath. Feel free to point out flaws in my theory, I'd love to hear them. :)

As you said, "Thinking they're just in the other room with their throat slashed". Horror imo, is all about how it's going to happen and when. For instance, if it's there you have to deal with it. The imagination of the audience is far superior to most of the director's ability to execute it via images.

Gore is laughable (Al Gore included). Psychology is the best way to mess with peoples' fear threshold.WildstarGoethe

When you say Gore being laughable, that actually sounds a little psychotic.

I was a whole lot more freaked by the beep of the motion sensor than I was by the final confrontation in Alien/s...

So I'd say psych...

D3nnyCrane

I think it's the sense of knowing another presence, is around you. But being unsure of what/who it is that gives people the impression. That's why I think that the motion sensor was a good thing to put into the movie, not only to give it the futuristic premise. But to add to the psychological factor also.

Alright guys, a little update.

She says that a bunch of weird people added her on myspace (haha thanks to the guys who did, i think it scared her a little) and i said that i dont want to meet her now. She said Monday, and im still sort of thinking about it. I honestly hope its a (attractive) girl and not some fat chick. I really dont think its one of my friends because none of them would go that far.

But i think if i go tomorrow, i might have a buddy go with me, just in case. We'll see. Thanks again for all the help guys.

metal_snake33

Bring a Katana, a gun, a knuckleduster. Drive around where you are meeting beforehand, and look for anyone suspicious. If you do, floor it. It's not a girl it's some weirdo.

If it is a girl, remain cautious dude. There are some seriously whacked out people.

With gore, you get kind of creeped out, but then you forget about it in a little bit.

Psychological horror is the kind that stays with you, makes you soil your pants, and makes you nervously glance over your shoulder every 5 minutes. :x

Psychological horror is much scarier.

After my sight of the ghost in my garden, I fear going downstairs at night...

Now if that doesn't show why Psychological horror, is far scarier. I don't know what will.

Indeed. There was actually a ghost stories thread about a week ago around here. Even though it was just text on a screen, I couldn't sleep at all that night. :P

Alternatively, I saw Saw IV the other day, and it was just meh. Kind of disturbing, but that's about it.

If you could link the ghost story thread, if it's still up to the thread. I'ld be thankful.

And indeed, once you've seen enough gore, your unable to find it squeemish or scary at all.

Psychological horror is just fun. Ever see the Hannibal movies?

By the paranormal doesn't really scare me, unless it's something like the Grudge.

Dracargen

Not seen the Hannibal movies, and hopefully NEVER The Grudge. Simply because, it just seems like it could freak me out a little too much :)

Psychological horror scares me more than gore by far.Oriental_Jams

The mouse holding the paint brush, with a blood red paint. Actually freaks me out a little...
