If Steam and XBLA isn't a good reason to start moving games mainly to digital distribution, I don't know what is. I'm not entirely sure what everyone doesn't like about digital distribution. You can just sit at your PC and sip a cup of tea and wait for the download to finish, or go out to the store to shop for something else if you don't like waiting. You don't have to put in the DVD every time you want to play the game and the prices are lower since games can skip shipping, man-handling, etc. Besides, thanks to piracy, digital distribution is the way to go and is going to be the very thing that'll keep the PC alive. If games can be activated online, that'll weed out 99% of pirates and developers don't even need to worry about the 1% until it becomes more rampant. Also, would you play your 360 as much if it weren't for XBLA? I don't think people would enjoy having to go to the store so much just to buy $5 games. Also, digital distribution is a great way for indies to sell and get word out about their game. For those of you who want to have a physical copy of the game next to you, please ask yourself this: what is so lovely about keeping a physical copy of a game next to you? It's a game. A video game. We're cherishing an optical disk with pretty pictures. Chances are you're not going to sell it for massive amount of money ten years from now. If you sell it for $200 to $300 on e-bay, good for you, that'll pay half of your rent that took ten years to build up when you could have made that much in a week.Vax45
Sorry to burst your bubble, but digital distribution is not going to stop pirating; It might deter it for a year or so, but that's about it. Those "pirates" are tricky b@sterds.
