they are in the business of making money and funneling subscriptions probably is a way of netting a ton of money for very little cost to themselves. My guess would be that core gamers are still important because they are early adopters, but they also want to try and lure in some of those who may be fringe kind of people who have the cash but generally don't buy gaming consoles when they first release.

that's a legitimate complaint... I've noticed that in my own house with my Xbox 360 the more stuff they add the less time I get with it.

Yeah... at least he was the lead over one of the console sections I think. Fox owns IGN so there may be something deeper going on there
