Past few weeks of gaming

So with my top 10 PS3 games list wrapped up, and another list already planned out and ready to do very soon, what games have I been playing outside of Gamespot?

Here's the past few weeks of games I've borrowed, and DLCs I've purchased with my thoughts and ratings. :)

------------------------------------------

MAFIA 2

POSITIVES -Compelling, violent story and a great cast of supportive characters with convincing voice acting. Varied missions with plenty of decent action.

NEGATIVES - Theres nothing to do in the open world, making for a short game, All missions were linked giving you no real freedom because of no manual save, Health system and checkpoints were harsh.

My rating - 7.5/10

---------------------------------------------------------

JUST CAUSE 2

Currently working on the review for this now.

POSITIVES - Enormous and beatifully detailed open world, So much things to do and opportunities to cause chaos, Explosions look and sound great, Parachute and grapple hook make for a unique means of travel.

NEGATIVES - Totally uninteresting story and characters with truly terrible voice acting, Enemies constantly spawn and are always annoying, Cutscene graphics are outdated. Unpredictable vehicle handling (either too stiff or too sensitive), Many various gameplay glitches.

My rating - 7.5/10

--------------------------------------------------------

MINERVA'S DEN - BIOSHOCK 2 DLC

POSITIVES - New areas of Rapture to explore which are just as beautiful and disturbing as before, New weapon and plasmid that are well introduced and mix in with the regular amazing gameplay perfectly, A deeply engrossing short narrative with a clever twist.

NEGATIVES - Some ocassional issues of slow texture loading.

My rating - 10/10

--------------------------------------------------------

DEMONS OF THE BADLANDS (Red Faction: Guerrilla DLC)

POSITIVES - More destructive opportunities in an entirely new map, Deadly new weapons and vehicles, Interesting backstory that connects to the main game.

NEGATIVES - No new side mission variety from the main game, Stuttering framerate is evident while driving.

My rating - 8.5/10

----------------------------------------------------------------

PROTECTOR TRIALS (BIOSHOCK 2 DLC)

POSITIVES - 18 trials set over 6 familiar areas of Rapture that cleverly test your ability to adapt using limited weapons and plasmids, The gameplay gets hectic and tense as you defend your little sister against waves of deformed splicers, 6 unlockable bonus trials which give you access to all weapons and plasmids fully upgraded.

NEGATIVES - Once you've finished there's nothing to pull you back for a second playthrough.

My rating - 8.5/10

---------------------------------------------------------

My reviews for each of these (except for Just Cause 2) can be found in my reviews section. Thanks for reading :)

Top 10 PS3 games #1

#1 - Dead Space

My favourite game of all time! It contains the best game story I've ever known, complete with intrigue, mystery and twists which all focus around the mysterious marker bought on board the USG Ishimura. Youtake on the role of an engineer named Isaac Clarke, who battles a polymorphic, virus-like, alien infestation which turns humans into grotesque alien monsters called "Necromorphs", on board a stricken interstellar mining ship named the USG Ishimura, after a distress call for help turns into a nightmarish bloodbath where no one can hear you scream.

No... its not a love bite, Isaac really is getting eaten!! :o

Bloody imagery covers the inside of the USG Ishimura since the infestation.

The fantastic presentation is displayed in real time, constantly leaving you in a chance to be attacked from any angle. Ammo is displayed on the weapons, and the rest of the hud is either on Isaac or in the inventory which really enforces the sci-fi setting.

Finally the action. The main focus is to dismember the necromorphs, and not only can they survive headshots, they adapt to missing limbs. Dead Space is a terrifying experience where every single corridor builds up the tension thanks to the amazing audio, and the superb graphics highlight such an amazing technical achievement like this.

Dead Space holds intense boss fights, innovative and truly terrifying gameplay, and plenty of gore, aswell as an engaging story to back up the thrills. :D

My rating - 10/10

Thanks for reading, my next top 10 list will be up soon :)

Top 10 PS3 games #2

#2 - Bioshock 2

The story and characters, while brilliant, weren't as memorable as in the first game, but just about everything else was improved for the better. The same haunting atmosphere and creepy Splicers returned, but in new areas of Rapture, that are artistically beautiful and haunting just like before. This time you control a big Daddy and after a dramatic opening cutscene, the story draws in again to explore the darkest areas of Rapture. New plasmids new weapons, improved gunplay mechanics and more variety in upgrades, all add up to an absolutely awesome experience, and make Bioshock 2 my second favourite game of all time!

My rating - 9.9/10

Number 1 will be up tomorrow!

Top 10 PS3 games #3

#3 - Bioshock

Set in the best fictional world ever created (imo), Rapture is quite simply my favourite game universe, and masterfully combines beautiful imagery with disturbing imagery, and makes every environment haunting. The chilling atmosphere only adds to the haunting feel, and the deformed and mutated citizens make for truly scary adversaries who are far too ****** up with ADAM and are driven to insanity. With a memorably dark and twisting story and introducing a fanastic gameplay concept of plasmids, all the ideas are perfectly brought together to make for such a convincing dystopia far below a cry for help.

I could sit here and write for hours about this artistically stunning masterpiece, and so if you wish to find out more, check out my Bioshock review. Its a pleasure to be involved in Rapture's dark mysteries, and a chilling journey I'll never ever forget. :)

My rating - 9.8/10

Top 10 PS3 games #4

#4 - Batman: Arkham Asylum

This outstanding action adventure stealth game is one of the best games I've ever played. It has the best stealth action I've ever witnessed in a game, visually stunning all over, and with such a fluent combat system, Batman: Arkham Asylum is one of those rare games that is almost perfect. Can't wait for the sequel - Batman: Arkham City!!

My rating - 9.7/10

Top 10 PS3 games #5

Thanks for reading the list so far everyone, here's the next game :)

----------------------------------

#5 - Red Dead Redemption

Containing probably the most authentic western atmosphere imaginable, Red Dead Redemption perfectly implements a strong cast of characters, just like you'd expect from the makers of GTA. The visuals and atmosphere are truly stunning, and everywhere you go, there is always something happening - People going about there everyday lives doing regular activities, crimes taking place, wild animals roaming through the desert, and, of course, lots of bloody mayhem. The superb physics have further been improved from GTA IV, and opens up more ways to experience the gameplay. Unfortunately Red Dead Redemption quickly left my mind upon completing it, down to the very disappointing ending which was completely unexpected. But Red Dead Redemption is still an epic game, and deserves this spot on my list. :)

My rating - 9.6/10

Top 10 PS3 games #6

#6 - Grand Theft Auto IV

Perhaps my most anticipated game of the decade, Grand Theft Auto IV was the game I wanted so badly since I got the PS3. And while it was a step down from San Andreas in terms of activities and things to do, it delivered brilliantly none-the-less. Niko Bellic is a great protagonist who gets pulled into a dark criminal underworld, and Grand Theft Auto does what it does best, and introduces fantastic characters, plenty of violence, drugs, sex and humour. Solid gunplay with revolutionary physics make the gameplay almost perfect, and while the graphics are a little less impressive now, at the time they were stunning, and bought such a criminal underworld to life.

My rating - 9.5/10

Top 10 PS3 games #7

#7 - Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

I still think the gunplay needs improvement, but overall every action section is movie-like, tense and exciting. This character-driven action adventure has some truly stunning visuals and art design, and follows fortune hunterNathan Drake on a superb and mysterious adventure on the hunt for a lost ancient artefact, and delivers with all kinds of puzzles and action that keep you engaged to the end of this action adventure epic! *takes a breath* :D

My rating = 9.4/10

Top 10 PS3 games #8

#8 - Fallout 3

I've not been in a good mood with this game, and haven't been in the mood to play it ever since that devastating glitch I encountered last year, I'm not sure if I'll ever go through it again, and I still haven't played the Broken Steel DLC. :|

But, well, its on the list for a good reason, and thats because of the artistic design that makes for such a desolate DC area, that so kindly invites thorough exploration of every corner. Not only is the action solid and entertaining, but its a highly addictive game that can easily take up 100 hours of your life. :PIts full of glitches and the graphics are poor, but its still a game with loads of qualities that make it a fantastically atmospheric one, with so much to do.

My rating - 9.2/10

I'll have the next game up tomorrow, see you then, and thanks for reading :)

Top 10 PS3 games #9 and Apology

Please Read

Firstly, sorry for missing loads of your blogs, lately I've only been interested in writing reviews which I have done quite a few, so if you want to check them out you know where to find them ;)

I just haven't felt like going on Gamespot much, and I may not be on as often in the future, not until my birthday anyway, when I'll be getting a laptop. Which means I'll be online a lot, and you can all invite me to your unions, which I'll find time for.:D

Anyway, I'll get going with the next game on my list which I'm sure you've all been waiting for :P

----------------------------------

#9 - Resident Evil 5

This is the only Resident Evil game I've played, therefore I cannot compare it to other games of the series, but while this game offered very few scares and scarce amounts of realism, it delivered with extremely fun and tense action moments, where you have to be careful with ammo, help your partner in difficult situations, and hold off swarms of ravenous zombies to stay alive. And you can even explode heads with Chris Redfield and his massive Schwarzenegger-like muscles!! So its all good :D

My rating - 9.2/10

Thankyou for reading, and please forgive me for not beng so active :)
