Next Day 1 purchase, and what are you currently playing?

Hey everyone, just a small blog here asking you what is your next Day 1 purchase and what are you currently playing now? :)

As with last year, the end of the year blogs will be the same titles as last year. I'm only doing a few of the main ones which I did on my other account for this year's 2010 awards:

  • Best Game of the Year
  • Worst Game of the Year
  • Most Surprisingly Great Game
  • Best Graphical Game
  • Movie of the Year
  • Most anticipated Game

I'll be doing these in the next few weeks, I hope you'll get a chance to read them :D

Anyway, where was I? :|

Oh yeah! Next Day 1 purchase! :P

Dead Space 2 is so close, I just can't wait for the sequel to my favourite game of all time! :D

And lastly, what I am currently playing:

I'm on my 2nd playthrough, already got the platinum so this is just a nice replay of the violent and disturbing descent through hell with nothing on my mind but slaying demons! :twisted:

I'm also playing a bit of FIFA 11, but that's a game I jump back into playing quite often. ;)

Thanks for reading, and remember to leave in your comment what's your next Day 1 purchase, and what you are currently playing. Later guys! :)

5 of the finest

I'm not the type of movie viewer who critisizes acting, but these 5 actors below really convinced me in the roles they played, and overall, these are my 5 favourite acting performances that I can remember seeing.

#5 - Rowan Atkinson as Blackadder

Blackadder is the name that encompassed four series of an English BBC One historical sitcom, along with several one-off installments, that star Rowan Atkinson as anti-hero Edmund Blackadder in every episode but with each series taking place in a different era of history. Rowan Atkinson is extremely funny as Blackadder who in each series features the same characteristics and traits to that of another incarnation and delights in every episode with his personality as a self-serving, cynical opportunist concerned solely with increasing his own influence and status within his society.

-----------------------------------------------------------

#4 - Sharlto Copley in District 9

In virtually his film debut, Sharlto Copley delivers a riveting performance as Wikus van de Merwe, an Afrikaner bureaucrat assigned to relocate a race of extraterrestrial creatures unexpectedly stranded on Earth, who, after coming into contact with their technology, discovers what it means to be the ultimate outsider on your own planet.

------------------------------------------------------------

#3 - Heath Ledger as The Joker in The Dark Knight

The perfect performance that you could possibly get out of The Joker (just beating Jack Nicholson's Joker performance imo) came from Heath Ledger. Sadly he died just after filming, but he deservedly won awards for his portrayal as The Joker, which is without a doubt one of the reasons why The Dark Knight was such an awesome and successful movie. His performance will live long in the memory of many movie fans.

---------------------------------------------------------------

#2 - Huge Weaving as Mr Smith in The Matrix Trilogy

I seriously love the villainous Huge Weaving's performance as Mr Smith in The Matrix movies. It was outstanding, and I could never imagine anyone else playing that part, it was meant for him.

--------------------------------------------------------------

#1 - Jack Nicholson in The Shining

Without a doubt the best acting performance I've seen. Jack Nicholson delivers a trulychilling andconvincing performance as Jack Torrence, the antagonist of The Shining, who slowly turns insane and murderous because of the haunted hotel's powerful influence on him. One of my favourite movies of all time, and Jack Nicholson's performance certainly is the reason behind that.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Well, that's my opinion on my favourite acting performances, thanks for reading!

Top 10 SAW traps - Part 2 (Spoilers)

If you missed the first part, click here.

Well, the first part of this blog series received mixed reactions from you guys, you either found it intriguing, or you were disgusted. Fair enough, but it won't stop me from writing more gruesome descriptions about the last 5 traps :P

SPOILERS AHEAD!

------------------------------------------------

#5 - The Blade Table (Saw 5)

Sawtrap.jpg

Upon realising all 5 people in the 'game' should have reached this stage, and it was a test of co-operation, not survival of the fitest, Brit and Malick are the only people remaining up to this point in Jigsaw's game, and what they have to do to get out, will certainly make you cringe. They have to insert there hands into the hole where the saw blade is, with the objective of filling the 10 pint glass beaker to the top with blood. If they worked together from the beginning (do the maths) they would have survived easily. Jigsaw obviously anticipates human error, and claims that 2 people can survive because the body can survive with only half the amount in you. They eventually insert there arm into the hole where the saw blade starts slicing down the centre of their hand. Their arms are now stuck in this hole now, and very slowly their arms are moved further into the saw blade, until eventually the jar is filled, and the result is their forearm being sawed in half. This is probably the most visceral of the saw traps, extremely bloodthirsty and difficult to watch. How much blood would you shed to stay alive...?

-----------------------------------------------------------

#4 - The Pendulum Trap (Saw 5)

Tied down to a metal table with two vices next to his hands, this victim is a killer, and to escape the trap he must destroy the 2 things he's killed with - his hands. This was one of Mark Hoffman's inescapable traps, since the victim in the trap killed his sister and didn't get the death sentence he deserved. Well, in this trap, justice was served. Above the victim is a giant, sharp pendulum that is swinging (just like a normal clock) side to side. Its slowly getting lower and lower, until it eventually cuts him in half.

-------------------------------------------------------------

#3 - The Garage Trap (Saw 7)

This trap is the most controversial Saw trap. The producers called it "Too disgusting, Too violent, and just wrong". They didn't put it in previous Saw movies for that reason. Its also the one trap in the Saw movies that includes 4 deaths at once. Here's how it works:

A man named Evan wakes up, glued to the driver's seat of a car that is propped up on its hind wheels. Evan is told by a tape placed in the tape deck of the car that his friends are in the garage with him and are also a part of his game, and that in order to prevent them from dying through a chain of events, he must reach a lever located in front of him on the outer side of the windshield within 30 seconds. One of his friends Dan is located behind the car, with his arms and jaw chained to the rear end of the car, and his body to a pole behind it. His girlfriend Kara is strapped down underneath one of the propped-up wheels, and his third friend Jake is chained to the garage door directly in front of the car.

In order to pull the lever, Evan has to reach forward and tear a massive portion of his skin off to disconnect from the carseat. The stationary car is also slowly accelerating as the timer counts down. Evan eventually fails to reach far enough in time and the car's hind wheels are released, causing one of the wheels to fall onto Kara's face, crushing it. The accelerating car then speeds in the direction of the garage door and rips Dan chained to the car's arms and jaw off, while speeding through and ultimately killing Jake chained to the garage door. The trap ends with the car having a head on collision with another empty car outside of the garage and Evan being thrown through the window by the impact.

The deaths are really gruesome and brutal, and this is by far the most violent Saw trap to date.

-------------------------------------------------------

#2 - The Blade Train (Saw 7)

This isn't an official Jigsaw trap, but only a dream Jill Tuck has after the realisation that Hoffman may be after her.

She is suspended by chains between to rails, unable to move. Hoffman then taunts Jill, before starting the pointed cart-like vehicle up, it then gathers speed along the rails before the blade quadrecepts Jill and sliced directly through her body with plenty of splattering blood.

-------------------------------------------------------------

#1 - The Reverse Bear Trap (Saw 1, Saw 6, Saw 7)

By far my favourite Saw trap, that was used in 3 Saw movies. It was first used in Saw on Amanda Young, but she escaped, and a modified version was then used on Hoffman in Saw 6, but he also somehow escaped. But then, confirming my thoughts, it made a final return in Saw 7, and Hoffman used the orginal Reverse Bear Trap to kill Jill.

Basically, it works exactly how it sounds. The trap is placed on the victim's head, with 2 parts being connected to the upper and lower jaw. if they failed to escape in time, the trap would snap open, permanently ripping the jaw open.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Well, I expect similar reactions as before, possibly less comments too, but I enjoyed writing up the descriptions, so all I can hope is you enjoyed my vivid descriptions. :) :P

Later everyone!

Top 10 SAW traps - Part 1 (Spoilers)

Hey everyone, here's a top 10 list of my favourite Saw traps from the movie series. There are possible spoilers, as each of my picks are from any of the seven movies currently made. If you are a fan of the Saw series (I am!) then you may find this interesting, otherwise sorry to those people who either haven't seen any of them or don't like them. :)

------------------------------------------

One of the primary focuses of the Saw films are the traps that the character John Kramer (Jigsaw) and his apprentices create for their victims. In the movies, the serial murderer, Jigsaw, places individuals into traps for having wasted or misused their lives; each trap serving the purpose of testing the victim's will to live. As such, these devices force subjects into near-death situations where they are typically given the opportunity to either save themselves or die. In accordance with Jigsaw's ideology, the traps are meant to act as a form of immediate rehabilitation for the subject upon completion, supposedly rewarding the survivo rwith a new lease on life and ridding them of their vices(that is if the subject doesn't fail and die, which is usually the case).

#10 - The Angel Trap (Saw 3)

The victim here is placed in a harness attached to the ribcage, the only way out of the device is to get the key from inside the acid-filled jar. She gets the key in time, but can't get out because this is one of Jigsaw's apprentices (Amanda Young's) inescapable traps. When the timer reaches zero sheraised her arms and clenched the chains she was hanging from as the two arms attached to the harness swiftly arched upwards in a similar manner to a pair of wings (hence the name of the trap), and pulled each side of the harness with them, causing the needles embedded in her torso to rip both sides of her ribcage out in opposite directions. She soon collapsed and died in the leather straps as her internal organs spilled out onto the floor.

----------------------------------------------------

#9 - The Rack Trap (Saw 3)

Mentioned on the tape, this trap was Jigsaw's personal favourite, one which tests just how far the limbs can twist. Here, the victim is helpless, and another character must help save him. He doesn't save him in time, and very slowly, one by one, his limbs twist and twist until they each snap, with the neck being the last to twist. Certainly one of the most brutal of the Saw traps.

----------------------------------------------------

#8 - The Bedroom Trap (Saw 4)

A serial rapist deservedly gets punished in this trap. His arms and legs are connected to chains, and the only way out of the trap is to activate two triggers within one minute, where 2 scythe-like arms attached to either side of the vice would drop down and gouge his eyes as punishment. He only managed to blind himself in one of his eyes, failing to press the second trigger in time. As a result, the gears connected to the posts began to crank as the four posts were pulled and planted outwards, pulling Ivan's limbs and ripping them from his body.

-------------------------------------------------------

#7 - The Coffin Trap (Saw 5)

A cla$$ic ending to Saw 5 that was all about trust. I won't mention names to avoid spoilers, but basically the bad guy told the good guy to enter the coffin, where pain will be inflicted but he will survive since the coffin will lower itself into the floor, while the walls close in and crush the other. The good guy didn't trust the bad guy, and payed the consequences of getting crushed by the walls.

--------------------------------------------------

#6 - The Public Execution Trap (Saw 7)

This trap takes place in a public square, specifically in a window display with bulletproof glass. Two men wake up chained to either end of a table with a circular saw resting in front of each person, aimed at their chests, and a thrid circular saw on a large pivot in the middle, pointed towards the ceiling. A woman is revealed to be suspended above the center saw and restrained to a large board hanging from the ceiling. Jigsaw tells the three of them that this love triangle cannot continue, and one must be taken out of the equation. The saw blades are all connected by a sliding platform, and the question lies on who will try to kill who. Since this trap is in the recently released Saw 7 movie, I won't reveal who gets killed, as some (or most) of you wouldn't have seen the movie.

=========================================

I didn't mean for this to be a 2 part blog, but work starts very soon, and I didn't have enough time to complete the whole list, so I'll continue with this tomorrow. If you're interested in how each of the traps work, youtube is the perfect place to see them all, enjoy! :P

These traps truly are terrifyingly violent and gory, fortunately the sight of blood and gore in movies doesn't bother me, though it does for a lot of other members of my family :P

Thanks for reading, check out Part 2 tomorrow :D

I got the job! :)

Finally something this year goes my way, since it hasn't been a good year for me at all - I got the warehouse job position at my local supermarket.:)

I'm still very nervous about tomorrow however, since its like a training day, where I learn all the health and safety aspects, and overall I'm just nervous about going. :oops: Damn nervous system!! :evil:

-------------------------------------------------

In other news, last week I went to see SAW 3D at the cinema with my Dad, the first 18-rated movie I've seen at the cinema, and guess what? I was nervous about going to see it, but it was more nervous excitement than anything else, so it was a good feeling. :P I had to show ID, since unfortunately I don't look my age, but I remembered to bring my passport so I was let in 8)

The movie was seriously intense, I didn't actually mind 3D, was kinda cool seeing all sorts of viscera flying at the screen, but it was by far the most violent of all the SAW movies, really gory. Excellent conclusion to the series though, with a fantastic twist at the end, I really enjoyed it :D

And after that, I had an urge to create a blog series about the Saw movies titled - Top 10 SAW movie traps. :D

Blog series coming soon :P

Anyway, thats it for now, thanks for reading :)

Its that feeling again

I'm bored of Gamespot :P :( :?

Well its mainly because of so much happening at the moment. I'll try to comment on your blogs as much as I can, and I'll make an effort to blog every weekend. I have an interview later tonight for a job at a local supermarket (ASDA) for a warehouse position, so hopefully I'll get that, so I can afford the games being released next year. :) And also, if I do get that, it will be evening work, so I'll be able to come on Gamespot more often. :D I haven't been on PSN for a few days now, I'm focusing on writing my reviews which I need to catch up on, plus I enjoy writing them. :)

If you missed my last blog, it was my final statistics and impressions of Fallout: New Vegas, which you can read here :)

I'll be still among you all though, I'm not leaving! 8)

Fallout: New Vegas final impressions and statistics

As you would have noticed I haven't been active for a while now, lifes hectic at the moment, and I've been very busy for the past couple of weeks, looking for jobs, attending interviews, started a crappy course where I don't fit in, and haven't played much games all week, and still doing my driving lessons twice a week, my nan is in hospital, so yeah, everything is happening. I don't know when I'll be active again, so I won't be commenting on people's blogs as much as I'd like to.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Glitches encountered:
Minor - Lots! - I encountered so many small glitches, things like enemies getting stuck in the floor, Pip-Boy not working for a brief time, and of course, Framerate and freezing issues.
Major - 2 - The side quest ED-E My love glitches with me. When I was asked to take the robot to the scrapyard, no speech option appeared for the character I had to take him to, really annoying since I couldn't finish it. The other one was a mission objective repeatedly kept displaying itself on the screen, despite me already completing that mission earlier, it remained for the rest of the game, roughly 50 hours, eventually I got used to it keep popping up, but still a pain.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Overall I really enjoyed Fallout: New Vegas, the gameplay was addicting and enjoyable, and there was so much flexibility with karma and factions that there is so much more to do with future playthroughs. However, Obsidian released New Vegas is an unfinished state, the amount of glitches was just unacceptable. The stuttering framerate throughout was the cause of many sound faults and freezing issues, and made scenes near the end almost unplayable. If you can't get a decent framerate for a game, just don't bother releasing it.

Final Score = 9/10

I recently put up a review for Fallout: New Vegas, my longest yet! It took me 6 hours to write up, and is 5800 words long. I warned you my reviews would be in-depth. :P But yeah, I was pleased with the finished piece of writing, and if you would like to read it, click here. :)

Thanks for reading, later everyone.

HAHAHAHA!!! *Crazy laugh*

Yeah I know... weird title :P

The reason for the title has 2 meanings:

1 - Its Halloween, the time to be evil and unforgiving :twisted:

And 2 - I believe I've just solved the thumbs down problem (YEAH I KNOW!!! GREAT RIGHT?) :D

Well, the other day just before I posted my last blog, I stopped tracking 20 people on my friends list, its something I didn't want to have to do, but I decided enough was enough. I planned to narrow down my search for that person (B*stard!) who's been doing this, so I stopped tracking people who I didn't completely trust. Reading this blog means I consider you... trustworthy :D

Well I wasn't sure it would work, afterall, for all I knew it could be a Gamespot hacker or something who can ignore the private setting put in place. Well it may be a bit premature to be certain, but my last blog received no thumbs down, so I'm sure (hope) that the problem is solved. Yes I lost 20 friends, 19 of them innocent, but I had to try and stop it, and so I'm sorry to those people who don't have access to my profile anymore (not that they're reading this so apologizing is pointless :P ).

Hopefully I'm not wrong, because that sad and pathetic, mentally unstable person is laughing his a$$ off right now at a mistake of mine. But... hopefully everything is corrected, and I hope helives a nasty life plagued withmisfortune and disaster before finally taking his place in the 9th circle of hell.;)

Anyway, SAW VII was released in cinemas the other day, hopefully there is a 2D version because now I'm 18 I'd like to go and see it sometime.

Enjoy you're Halloween, and try not to get up to any mischief :P As for me, (I'm sure you already guessed it) I'll be playing Fallout New Vegas in the dark, and killing all kinds of things :lol: :twisted:

Later everyone! :)

Inactivity with a good reason

I'm too busy playing Fallout: New Vegas!!! :P

I'm truly liking this a lot more than Fallout 3 now, and when I finish it (40 hours in and still haven't seen the Vegas strip yet :P ) I'll post my final impressions and get a review going for it. :)

Thats all I wanted to say, so sorry if I miss your blogs in the up coming week, but I'm too addicted to New Vegas at the moment :oops:
