Well I have only ever owned 3 games. Popolocrois, Dragon Ball Z Shin Budokai, and Metal Gear Solid portable ops. Sold Metal Gear Solid after about a year and a half and had been playing crisis core and dissiedia when at my friends house using my psp.
Just to make sure I understand right, I put my save files on the pc, empty the memory stick, then do the update and then just delete the update from the memory card and the update will still be on the system?
As for games with the update how new a game are we talking? The latest game I tried to play was birth by sleep last year but I got an error saying the battery wasn't charged enough to do the update. I left my psp plugged in all day but it still wasnt charged enough and I never got around to trying to again.

For the PC, that's pretty much the gist of it. After you've backed up the save files on your PC, you can delete them from your PSP, download the system update, install update, then delete system update. You're now free to move the save files back on your PSP via the PC.
As for how new the games have to be to have the new system update, they have to be fairly new (maybe released 1-2 weeks within system update release). But even then, they still may have the old system update on them, so unless you were interested in the game and were going to buy it anyways, I suggest to check online what system update it comes with.
