As we weird foreigners in Sweden celebrate Christmas on the 24th of December, I will have access to my computer on Christmas day, and will be able to write a Merry Christmas Blog then - with the full list of my Christmas presents, of course. Therefore I willd edicate this blog to part one of my summary of 2007, starting with the music part.

My ten favorite albums of 2007:
10. Nine Inch Nails - Year Zero
Not their best work, I admit, but after a few listens, Year Zero really grew on me, and the songs started to make sense. I love the more electronic songs, as I often do with NIN. Overall, the CD has many good songs, thought there are some filler, and I find it a bit too long.
Favorite Song - Capital G
9. Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna Are You The Destroyer?
Probably my favorite album of the group's, Hissing Fauna is so much fun. It' indie pop mixed with some bizarre psychadelic disco, with dark lyrics. I just love it.
Favorite Song - Heimdahlsgate like a Promethean Curse
8. Marilyn Manson - Eat Me, Drink Me
Admittedly, one of Manson's worst albums to date, Eat Me, Drink Me isn't as fun and charismatic as his previous work, but the melodies are quite a bit more mature. It takes a few listens to realize the beauty of it, but once you get there it's a really great CD, with many great moments, both sonically and vocally.
Favorite Song - Are You The Rabbit?
7. Maia Hirasawa - Though I'm Just Me
A record that I discovered very resently, Maia Hirasawa's debut just took me by storm. She used to sing alongside one of my favorite people in the music business - Hello Saferide, and their styIes really resemble each other. She has a sweet voice, and a lot of soul and depth, all accompanied to great tunes.
Favorite Song - Crackers
6. Miss Li - God Put a Rainbow in the Sky
Miss Li is quite extraordinary. She has managed to spit out three records in less than a year, and that is no easy accomplishment. That all three of them are great is even more remarkable. God Put... is my favorite of the three, with it's straighforward lyrics about boyfriend theft and other important things, and catchy, jazzy tunes.
Favorite Song - I'm Sorry He's Mine
5. Rasputina - Oh Perilous World
The first few times I listened to it, I found Rasputina's fifth record somewhat boring. The songs were nice, but they also resembeled each other quite a bit, and I had a hard time remembering which was which. But after a few more listens, I saw the beaty of it, and it might be their best record. I love the sound, the lyrics and the vocals are better than ever.
Favorite Song - 1816, the year without a summer
4. CocoRosie - The Adventures of Ghosthorse and Stillborn
Yet another record that required a few listens. I really found it far too straightforward for my taste. It was the ethereal weirdness of the two first albums that caprtured me. But the more I listened, the more layers I found, and it turns out CocoRosie's third record is the most varied yet, and possibly my favorite of the three.
Favorite Song - Promise
3. Säkert!
Säkert! is Hello Saferide's Swedish project, and even though I prefer her English work, Säkert! is the best record in Swedish ever made. The lyrics are dead on, and the melodies are catchy, but simple. A pure masterpiece.
Favorite Song - Ditt Kvarter
2. Björk - Volta
As a huge fan of Björk, this was the most anticipated album in amny years. When it finally was released, I wasn't dissapointed. The albums was met with mixed reviews, some prasing it for being more happy and poppy aspect of her earlier records without losing the originality and experinemntal value of her more recent work, though some critics thought that she had lost her vision, and the songs were boring and far too different from each other. I disagree with the latter. It's an amzing record, with some of her best song writing, and two magic duetts with the lovely Antony Hegarty.
Favorite Song - Earth Intruders
1. Patrick Wolf - The Magic Position
Patrick was someone I discovered in the very beginning of 2007, and very few times have I fallen in love with someone as I did with Patrick. The Magic Position is not only his best record, but the best record opf the year, and quite possibly my favorite record ever. I love the more upbeat songs, and it's nice to heard Patrick in the major key for once. I love the more mellow songs and I love the interludes. Patrick's voice is amazing, and can be used in so many different ways. I love his string compositions and the way they mix so wonderfully with the elctronic sounds. The Magic Position is a true masterpiece, and a record very close to my heart.
Favorite Song - The Magic Position/Bluebells
