It's not "much better". People just like to exaggerate. Sure XBL is a bit better with it's cross game chat and party chat, but that doesn't make it "that much better" than PSN, just a little better really. Exaggeration is what makes SW, from graphics being way better, sells being way higher, online service being way better, etc...

Its not an exageration if it was just cross game chat then i would be fine with that but PSN does not have the amount of games available that Live has and it doesnt take me long to get into a game if there is an update for a ps3 game i just switch over to my xbox and play something and check back periodically to see if its finished. Prime examples are MGS4 and the half day update (exageration) and socom confrontation litterally 1 hour of updates (not exagerating) if your game needs a 500mb of updates and its not an mmo your doing it wrong

Seems like more of a developer efficiency problem than a PSN problem, but I can't be certain (just as you can't be certain it's PSN's fault). Just look at games like RB, CoD, Force Unleashed, etc.... The patches are pretty small and download fast. We don't know how the update system works behind closed doors, and since there's no consistency to the size of the update (one game's update could be huge, while another's could be a few KBs), we can't say whether it's PSN's fault or not. I'd wager that the update system isn't standardized which leads some developers into making convoluted patches and what not, in which case it would be Sony's fault, but there is no way of knowing whether that's the case, so blindly placing the blame on one party or another is wrong imo.

Also, I agree that the 500MB+ game updates need to stop. I have 1.5 Mbps connection, so I already have it bad for just streaming videos lol.

Believe me when i tell you i was not happy about waiting an hour for an update to complete it sucks and i have other things i would rather be doing like i dont know PLAYING THE GAME I PUT IN THE SYSTEM! Take ANY game that has an update it takes entirely to long to downloadbut like i said for people out there who dont experience live its what it is love your psn i will think its a second class citizen next to live now i wish the TC would put up his screename for xbox live so people can see if he has one or not and played multiplayer.

to Vipa37 u meant backwards compatible right? and ive had xbox live for the orginial xbox to play halo 2, but it didn't have xbox 360 features then... and i have xbox live now, just got it for halo reach and wow i regret it, ive experienced it but its a rip off. the little features don't make it much better than psn... and now your saying psn sucks because of updates, lack of demos (which is untrue), slow downloading times (they're not that slow)... w/e manbabybinky

What do you regret? i just wanna know did you get the year, 3 month, or the 2 month and whats your screenname just somethin i wanna know and you said lack of demos for games which is TRUE tell me do they have a demo for everyday shooter do they have demos for half of the PSN exclusives answer is NOPE know why half the games that came out for it were crap. Only this year did they start puttin demos for the download only games you would know since you had a ps3 since it came out oh wait you didnt. But it was more than backwards compatibility it was the removal of things that came with the ps3 that they removed in future revisions like the usb ports and linux just to name a few. The ps3 is the only system i have seen that REMOVED features since the beginning i just laugh cause it made no sense but to each their own like i said you love PSN great happy for ya i like it i love LIVE but we will see what happens next gen cause the way the home consoles are going i might strictly play on pc

I have a better question for the TC do you even have a BC compatible PS3?

babybinky

no i don't, and what does that have to do with the playstation network vs xbox live arguement?

Because i actually have one i seen the shape of the psn from its inception as the craptacular POS it was to what it is now which is amazing but still havent sorted out 3 issues that still keep it behind LIVE

1. Content

2. organization

3. How updates are applied to said games

I see you have never used LIVE cause if you did you would know why its better but like navyguy said you have to use it to understand. I mean sony created a new update system but you have to be a PSN+ member to get something that basically should have been included and deployed from the get go but hey have fun on the network that is slow as molasses for downloading patches and no demos for all games and having a history of messing up on their online cause the PSN servers couldnt handle the load (look up the modern warfare 2 fiasco or better yet the bad company 2 online issues) i just call it for what it is a patchwork of stuff that live has had since its inception and they are mad they cant charge for it

I stopped reading after you talked about grouping up on a phone that is nuclear fail right there. Now i see you have never used xbox live i just dont care at this point i can get it for cheaper than retail like i do most games including collectors editions (which i usually buy) i just find it funny that cows after 5 years are still harping how great psn is which is NOT true get me updates that dont take long if i decide not to play the game for a month or get me demos for ALL my psn network games do that then we can talk until then i will payand you wont and we will both be happy

I must say this is the funniest thread ever. I WANT backwards compatibility just for the simple fact that it makes the graphics better on old games and just because a new system comes out doesnt mean that games for the old system just stop being made immediately. As for PS3 when it first came out the only game worth playing was Resistance. Then after that came uncharted and rachet and clank and to a lesser extent folklore. But for everyone who is commenting i would ask do you even have the BC version of the ps3 if not then you dont know the nightmare that was PSN back in 06- early 07

Oh and by the way the ps3 charges for you to get updates while you play games (i am so serious psn+ is crazy) something that ps fanboys complain about and they still solve the issue but you have to pay for it. and for people who say the psn and live are the same must not have live gold VERY different creatures and they still havent solved the fact that they put both ps3 and psp demos in the new demos section

I will put in my two cents even though i agree that this should have been blogged. I like my 360 cause of the better multiplats plain and simple and also the abundance of the library of downloadable games that are better on the xbox 360 than on the ps3 (minis suck) as far as exclusives i buy em both but even though people tout "teh awsome gwafics of sell" why cant their games last longer than 6 hours i mean 3 years and yet you get short campaigns and crappy multiplayer. But this is all my opinion so i say to each their own.
