[QUOTE="Floppy_Jim"] Really? People are always saying the DS has a better library. But how many of those are exclusives and PS2 ports?WAIW

I don't know and I don't care. How many of the DS' games are just SNES/N64 remakes?

I just think that there's a lot of misinformation when it comes to the PSP.

Not many, compared to the PSP. Especially when take into account more than half of the PSP's AA games are multiplat, which is the main reason a lot of people don't care about it. If you can play those games on a platform you already have, why bother?

I didn't know a multiplat was a game available for mutliple platforms that you had already played before.

[QUOTE="killerfist"] Not sure what you're saying here:P But it's simple. They don't start a buisness in order to loose money. blue_hazy_basic

Nobody does anything in order to lose money.

It's like you guys keep repeating the same obvious rules of life.

Next up: You need to breathe to live. You also need to sleep!

So you agree sales matter? Then what are you arguing about? :?

They matter but not in the context they're put in here, in SW.

And IMO, saying that money is a dev's #1 priority is insulting to the dev and to me as a fan of gaming.

Besides the fact that "GOOD" is almost entirely subjective, every developer is in this business to make money.

That's how business works.

blue_hazy_basic

NEWSFLASH: EVERYONE MAKES MONEY. EVERYONE LIKES MONEY. EVERYONE NEEDS MONEY.

You need money. I need money. Your mom needs money. Hideo Kojima needs money.

The difference is that Hideo Kojima chose to make games for a living because he wants to make games.

Do the Coen Brothers make movies because they want to make movies or do they do it for money
Did the Beatles make music because they wanted to make music or did they do it for money?
Does a nurse take care of people because she wants to or does she do it for the money?

God, the way you people talk it's like you're totally dead inside.

Could they make those games/movies if they kept losing tons of money? Nope.

You need money to achieve anything in life. I don't see why you're so adamant about stating the obvious.

But see the difference is HOW you make your money. Do you think that a dev is a dev even though he doesn't want to be? Do you think becoming a dev is something that just falls onto your lap? You become a dev because you want to make games.

You don't become a dev to make money. You become a dev to make games for a living. If you can't see the difference between those things than you just don't understand.

[QUOTE="Vitro-Vivo"][QUOTE="blue_hazy_basic"]Ask all thouse dev houses that are going under right now ....blue_hazy_basic

And what would you ask them?

"Oh crap, your company went down under like a lot of other people are right now? Do you think it was a money issue?"

In that case, money should be everyone's #1 priority.

Yes, they are businesses .... go have a look at Stardock's business model. Great games, done on a budget with amazing support. Guess what they just opened a new studio! How is that possible without sales?

Oh great now you're comparing someone (or a team) who takes 3 years to complete a single vision with a game that they put some much effort and creativity into to the goddamn McDonald's of the coffee world?

I'd say you're wrong there. Unless the dev is a total money whore, I think that making a good game would be their #1 priority.

[QUOTE="ps3_owns_360Wii"]not really, i cant play sales(i bet you havent heard that one:P) and i need games games and gamesblue_hazy_basic
but what about games like Heavenly Sword or Too Human - poor sales meant no sequel or games like Madden which get released every year because they are money in the bank for EA. Sales matter big time for developers and a) what type of games they produce b) what platform they go on and c) whether you will see a sequel/expansions/DLC.

Maybe Heavenly Sword and Too Human didn't deserve sequels?

So-so games really shouldn't be made into franchises when the money could be better spent elsewhere.

So far this gen is proof that you don't need to be the market leader to have the games.

In the end, good devs want to make games they can be proud of. Just like good movie directors and good song writers.
I'd imagine that most people who get into the business of making games do it because they want to make kick ass games and not because they want to crush everything else sales wise.
