@phili878: We're probably thinking of 2 different Warhammer games. I should have been more clear... I don't mean the OG Warhammer FPS game. I meant the 3rd person, isometric, Warhammer game.
But even so... What's hard to understand? The game I'm referring to was too difficult playing solo. I hope this one isn't the same because I'd like to play it. What's hard to understand there?
To me... This game resembles Gears of War. I get blasted for saying this, but it does. From the big, hulking characters, the alien-looking enemies, and the war ravaged environments. It looks very similar to me. If you swap in Marcus Fenix and the Locust, it would be the same thing. Nothing bad about that.
From what I've read, this game isn't great as a single player, unfortunately. I had this problem with the first Warhammer... I couldn't progress further without having coop partners. I hope this game doesn't suffer from the same design elements of forcing coop for progression. Definitely looks like something I'd like to play.
@mogan: I agree with everything you've said. However, if all of these technical effects are not sustainable, stop adding them in games. Pretty simple. Just because hardware is capable of these things, doesn't mean they have to be used if it's slowing development time and adding cost.
Nobody will care if a game foregoes chromatic abberation, motion blur, or 4K graphics if it'll mean more games at a faster pace. And I say that meaning it's not a make or break to gamers on whether they purchase a game or not.
These studios are bringing the cost onto themselves. Don't add these things if it will substantially add to dev time and cost. Sure, they look nicer (if it's a feature I don't disable right off the bat), but as a business decision, it seems very straightforward. And they're making the wrong choices.
If studios can't afford to make these games, and gamers don't care that much about these effects, than WHY do they continue to go down this road? It's like 2+2=10.
@ceelogreen94: If gamers were entitled, there wouldn't be so much garbage in the games industry, like this. And .. surprise, surprise, the woke mob doesn't BUY games. That's why they don't sell. SHOCKER!
Gamers are simply asking for fun games, minus the ideology. Not too difficult. But it seems to be impossible from the developer perspective.
@ceelogreen94: DEI is racist, bud. It's also anti-white, anti-straight. Excuse those of us that fit those categories to call it out for what it is. If it was anti black we'd see riots in the streets. Goes well beyond politics, especially if you live in a blue state, like I do.
And no, I don't think the game is overly woke. Not like that other "Dust Born" game.
@Mimbus: I'm playing Star Wars right now... And I gotta say... It's kinda soulless. I feel like I'm going through the motions, hoping it'll get better at some point.
Granted, I'm very early in the game (just finished the tutorial level and got to the open world), but there's nothing grabbing me to go back and play it yet.
You can't take a large company's stock price as an indication if 1 game is doing well. There's too many variables that go into a stock price for a publisher.
They're likely releasing both games this holiday to add onto their fiscal year-end in April 2025. Usually, you don't see 2 big releases so close together from the same company because they don't want them to compete with each other. Smells of desperation to get the stock up before fiscal year end.
@mogan: Single player games is what drives games sales. Period, full stop. They are what provides the escapism, the challenges, the narrative and story arc. Most players are completely fine paying the cost of admission for a good 12-15 hour experience.
Yes, you have the handful of behemoth multiplayer games, but those are the exception, not the rule.
This is why you never trust the Forbes writer, Tassey. Dude is always full of crap. I think he makes stuff up and just says it's from a "source." And if it is from a source, he needs some new ones because they always seem to be wrong.
AND.... If there was an exclusivity agreement, Sony would be shouting it from the rooftops. It's a marketing ploy. Why wouldn't they use it? There's no "secret" agreement, lol.
