As a proud member of the US Army, and knowing I have a few years on most of you, I was kind of wondering if anyone here has any aspirations to join a branch of the military. Or hell, if anyone here is already in the military?

Just curious.

Oh, and if you want to, throw your age in there too. I'd like to get an idea on how age comes in to play with everyone's opinions.

MichaeltheCM

Hell no! im kinda confused though. you say ur a proud member of the US military? it sure is weird that you have that particular avatar

I'm a very proud member of the military. I'm just NOT proud of the way our current President has run this country.

I'm thinking about maybe buying a razor scooter soI won't have torely on public transit asmuch

Why can't people just try to live a peaceful life, not hurting or insulting anyone, checking your mood rings, smoking marijuana, being at peace with nature and animals(just got two parakeets a little over a week ago named Angel and Sweet Pea, one green and yellow, and one light blue with a yellow head), looking at your tye dyed wall rainbow colored yin and yang wall covering while reclining in your tye-dyed beanbag chair, volunteer at your local animal shelter to try to save/help all the poor little doggies and kitties who might be put to sleep because some heartless jerk abandoned them just because they couldn't be trained, or stopped being cute(one time I saw this commercial on TV for an animal shelter saying you should donate money to save dogs like this. They were showing this dog that got run over by a truck and it's leg was all bandaged and bleeding really badly. I just about cried.), or giving money to associations like PETA and local animal shelters so maybe you can do some good in the world and possibly save a life or two instead of cruelly ending one.

xxxxxn

This part of your post pretty much killed anything else you wrote. So yeah, let's let everyone else come over here and destroy our country and we'll all be too busy being high and saving puppies to notice...

I hope you don't have kids.

[QUOTE="GettingTired"]Not even if I was drafted. I don't want to kill people for a cause I don't believe in.whaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Cause God knows, EVERYONE in the military kills people.

it doesnt matter "what" you do, it still leads to someones death

Doctors? Combat Medics? MP's? Human Resources? Mess Hall cooks?...well, that one is questionable. Point is, that was one of the most ignorant things I've ever heard. You can't be serious...read a book!

Hey, interesting thread. I've considered joining the military before (I was thinking air force - I've flown for a couple years, and my grandfather has some amazing stories), but have basically deferred any decision as I got sucked into more schooling.

I have a couple of questions for our resident soldiers, if you guys wouldn't mind. I hope they don't come off as disrespectful - I'm really just curious. :D

Can I ask what you guys think of all the stuff the politicians do? I'm thinking, for example, of how both Democrats and Republicans insist that they're supporting the troops.

Who do you feel really supports you?

What would you say the Republican/Democrat % breakdown is in your branch?

Do you see people's outlook change as they become more jaded?

Finally, are you confident in George Bush's leadership?

Thanks. :)

jodamn

I think they both (Republicans and Democrats)believe they're supporting US troops. It's just a matter of what that support is. Is it giving us better equipment (which is desperately needed) and making sure we have what we need to complete our mission? Is it bringing our troops home and out of a country that generally speaking doesn't want us there? That's the real debate.

I feel pretty much supported by everyone. When I'm walking through a store or the mall in uniform and someone comes up and shakes my hand for serving our great country I don't really think about what party the consider thamselves a part of.

As I'm not the most political person you're likely to come upon, I haven't really discussed politics with the people in my unit.

I haven't really noticed a change in anyone's outlook since I've ben in. Like I said though, I'm not really much for politics.

I'm not at all confident in Bush's leadership and I can't wait for him to leave office. I probably shouldn't say that in a public forum as I am part of the military but I don't think he'll be reading this.

Please dont start to encourage kids to join the military.

That's not why I made this post but what's so bad about encouraging people to join the military?

Cuzz you see all the people geting killed dont you?

People dying is an ugly fact of war. I personally don't agree with US forces in the middle east riight now but when you compare this was to past wars the deaths have been minimal. You'd have as many people die in one day in previous warsas have died all together in this one.

I've always considered joining the NAVY. I'm 17 and going to join the National Guard while I go to college. After that, who knows.Ghost_702

That's the way to go. What state do you live in?

Vundi--- How long have you been a soldier? I've been in the Marine Corps the past 5 years, and I love it. Good to hear from a fellow servicemember who's doing alright and made it out of that crazy country we've all been sent to these past few years.

Kolomo--- My love for the people of this country is the only thing that keeps me from slapping douchebags like you that MY brothers and sisters are dying for every day. Don't worry, every generation has had it's cowards who wont serve. There's still plenty of us with the nerve to step up.

:D

jt222_us

I've only been in for about a year and a half. My girlfriend has been in for 8 years though. She leave for Iraq in November.

Don't sweat that guy though. He doesn't realize that it'speople like us and the countless men and women that came before us thathave fought and served to allow him the right to express himself.

oh no, you're dating a fellow service member? in the coast guard we had a saying that "if she's wearing blue, she aint for you" iow don't date or marry another coastie. but it happened all the time anyway. do they have a saying like that in the army? i'm just giving you crap by the way, i could care less if your dating a fellow service member.

Nope, no saying like that. We're in different units and since that's the only way it would really be an issue...you get it. She does like to give mecrap from time to time though since she does outrank me.

I already served my time, 7 long years of it, and now I'm so happy to be a free man. In case your wondering what branch, it's not the Army, Marines, Navy, or AirForce, I'll let you guess from there.jt222_us

Coast Guard then?
