[QUOTE="WCWUSCHAMPION50"]

This is something a guy posted on the Xbox forum about the 360. Now I'm posting this to ask you guys if what he says seems logical at all.

I wish someone can construct a scientific test on the Xbox 360 thermal temperatures with and without the additional heatsink, because most likely the temperature drop on the overall console will most likely be from 1-3 degrees with the additional heatsink.
I have a feeling the additional heatsink only extends the death of the Xbox 360 because the motherboard does'nt remain sturdy forever. The heat that is still generated from the GPU will start warping the motherboard after a year and a half or so. The heatsink is bringing the heat to a new area weakening more parts of the motherboard like the ram chips which can loosen from the motherboard, the weakened motherboard will start to give out and allow the GPU to warp the motherboard all over again but this time the process will be slower. So yes the heatsink works but it only extends the death of the Xbox 360. The heat from the GPU is still hot enough regardless of added heatsink, you need a bigger case and a larger heatsink. Why don't you see heatsinks linked to other heatsinks in other electronics? If you construct a chip that runs hot you construct a large heatsink that can allow alot of hot air to rise and then be expelled by fans.
The solution to the 3 red lights is a much bigger case for more ventilation, bigger GPU heatsink not an additional, stronger bigger exhaust fans, and more space between the GPU and CPU.

What do you guys think?

IMO stronger fans will do the trick. I keep my 360s air exhaust temp. below 90 degrees with a home made intercooler setup.It is now over 19 months old and still working perfect.

Well I'm not planning on using any intercoolers as I don't have any faith in those at all. But what scares me is his statement on: the heatsink works but it only extends the death of the Xbox 360

I was worried and both pissed off as I read that because I had so much faith in the 65nm chip coming. And now this guy pretty much popped my balloon of hope after reading that. So in his assumption these problems will not stop, they are just going to be postponed for a while later.And so this 65nm chip is just a waste of time to even make then.

yeah I hope so, and I hope my 360 doesn't die on me, I just recently bought it a month agoKickinurazz

Well dude I wish you the best with your system and hopefully it will never bust. But remember that it doesn't contain that 65nm cooling chip inside.

So I would say you have a 50/50 chance.

Why don't you trade it in and get the one with the 65nm chip once they come out?

how many topics are there gonna be of this, jesus. whether or not they are gonna fixed or not there needs to be less of this topic

Kickinurazz

Well people are concerned so they create lots of threads like these. But these problems will soon be over so we'll see none of these again:D

[QUOTE="WCWUSCHAMPION50"] And I imagine that so is Microsoft so they have to redeem themselves, with the chip or else alot of people are going to buy the rival consoles instead.Japan-Japanese

As far as I'm concerned they "redeemed" themselves by producing great games. I doubt people will buy "rival consoles" just because of a few malfunctioning consoles.

So your saying that even with these 65nm chips the problems will still continue???

No, because the chip inside the Xbox 360's right now have a chip that produces alot of heat and this heat will eventually melt of the solder joints inside the console thus causing the hardware failure known as the "THREE RED LIGHTS". Thats why this 65nm Chip is being made, it will produce less heat thus stopping the hardware failure completely. Thats why the guy above me stated that Microsoft had already stated that this problem is in all Xbox 360's because it is due to this chip that produces alot of heat thus causing this failure due to the solder joints melting off inside the console. Not only that, I'm sure most people that have a Xbox 360 right now are aware that it will break down and thats why most people are using the warranty as a back up because they know it will break due to this chip causing this hardware failure. In other words, all the Xbox 360 made right now will eventually break down because Microsoft refuses to put the new chip in which will stop the problem completely.

Well Microsoft isn't refusing to put the 65nm chip in, this chip is already in the news so it is going to be placed. I just wasn't sure what you meant by them refusing. They never said "We Are Not Putting Any 65nm chips in the future consoles, that is a lie"

What I ment was they have the nerve to say it will be released in 2007 and I'm still not getting any more info than what you stated,I mean how long I got to wait, I'm waiting tell Christmas and thats it.

Ya I'm with you on that too as I don't want to wait any longer to get my console. See I'm confident that it will get released in October, so they got about 2 months to get this underway. I doubt these guys are waiting till the last minute to put the chips in. And the sooner the better because if they were to release the new chipped consoles by December there is a problem. Since that month is the Christmas month. Alot of people are going to want to pickup a few consoles for their kids. And the last thing I want to see is: Xbox 360 Elite SOLD OUT.

Thats gonna piss me off after all the waiting I'm going to be doing, so again I got my fingers crossed for Oct. This should not take any longer. Putting those chips is a fast process not a 5 month waiting time.

[QUOTE="WCWUSCHAMPION50"]

[QUOTE="Fumpa"]I still haven't purchased a next gen system (360/PS3/Wii). I have been wanting a 360 for a while but this "3 Rings of Death" thing bothers me. Does Microsoft have any plans in the near future to change the system design so this won't happen anymore?Fyper

I haven't bought one either man so your not the only one out there.

Ya Micro does have plans it's this 65nm Falcon chip thats going to be placed into all 360's come October. All problems should be solved with that chip. Now remember me and alot of people speculate October, but it could it September or later this fall. Like I said I have alot of faith in the chip and when they come out thats when I'll buy my 360. In the meantime I'll start buying games and accessories!

Those chips only prevent overheating. Not Red Lights of Death. That's why Microsoft pulled out $ 1 000 000 000 to give anyone with a broken 360 a new one.

Ok but isn't the red light issue due to overheating so then this chip would fix things.

It's just that with the release of this chip I find it hard to imagine that the 360 will still have problems. I mean fans are sick of these things. And I imagine that so is Microsoft so they have to redeem themselves, with the chip or else alot of people are going to buy the rival consoles instead.

Because if this chip doesn't fix things, then we are basically going to have problems until the next future xbox gets released. Nobody wants that to happen and neither does Microsoft.

So this chip is going to be our saviors!
