I still haven't purchased a next gen system (360/PS3/Wii). I have been wanting a 360 for a while but this "3 Rings of Death" thing bothers me. Does Microsoft have any plans in the near future to change the system design so this won't happen anymore?Fumpa

I haven't bought one either man so your not the only one out there.

Ya Micro does have plans it's this 65nm Falcon chip thats going to be placed into all 360's come October. All problems should be solved with that chip. Now remember me and alot of people speculate October, but it could it September or later this fall. Like I said I have alot of faith in the chip and when they come out thats when I'll buy my 360. In the meantime I'll start buying games and accessories!

I bought mine midnight on launch day. Never had a problem.

Not all 360's fail. It is vital to keep it in a well ventilated area.

If you are referring to the recent news/announcements of Microsoft,

every 360 ever released to date has a defect that can lead to a red

ring error. Around 33% of consoles will experience this error in their

lifetime even if used properly. This is an enormously high rate of failure for such an

expensive device, but not EVERY 360 will fail. The only console from the

current gen (I own all save for the PSP) that has ever broken on me is

my DS which had the screen crack issue. Perhaps I'm simply lucky.

Akm4everz

No every 360 can fail and has a chance of failing dude microsoft already admitted that their is a design defect... so they are all capable of getting 3 red lights at anytime.

Dont run from the truth young one lol...

Ok but thats why they are planning to place the 65nm chips inside the 360's. Once that happens we can all kiss this red light crap goodbye.

Like I said don't you think Micro is getting tired of all this backlash they are receiving from their console being faulty. Hell if I worked there I would be pretty upset. And I wouldn't want buyers to get a rival system instead of the 360, so I would work hard to fix the prob.

People just be thankful for this new chip as these problems will be solved with it. And we are all going to have a healthy and great console just like the old Xbox was. Remember those days with that big black system, mine was problem free and purred like a kitten. I never had problems and neither did my friends. Well those times will return I'm confident!

You can crack jokes about the current situation but it's gonna end come October. And I have alot of faith as do other people on Microsoft redeeming themselves with this falcon chip.

This crap is gonna stop and please quote me on this.

Remember everyone all xbox 360's are designed to fail at sometime. Akm4everz

That maybe true for the moment but once they get those 65nm chips inside of the Elites and the premiums things will change. Microsoft has to redeem themselves with the backlash they have gotten from these broken consoles. So I am very excited for October.

This little problem is about the end and so is the failure rate!

I only go to the US once in a while, I live in Brazil, the xbox console with all the taxes that they charge here sells for ..believe it or not over 800 dollars for a premium. So I will take this opportunity before I go to Europe to buy my NTSC xbox 360..:)

Questio: If my xbox 360 breaks after october, will they set the new chip when they fix it?

La_Vendetta

October is the speculated month where alot of people including myself believe they will be out. And to answer your question of course it would have to contain the chip. If they didn't put it in thats basically cheating the customer, I don't think Micro would be that dirty.

Hello future xbox 360 companions,

I had already made a decision that I would buy the Xbox 360 Elite in August. Today I was talking to my friend that owns a Xbox 360 Premium and he said he has lots of HD space left over. So it left me to wonder, is the xbox 360 elite really worth it if people with the Premium ahve no space problems? I can buy a HDMI cable pretty cheap too..Pplease leave your arguments and opinions and I would appreciate it. :)

cya on live soon

La_Vendetta

Brother why are you rushing and trying to buy it so soon. I mean are you looking for your machine to start dying on you?

Why don't you have patience and wait till October when this 65nm chip will be installed in the machines. Because right now it's just a risk that your taking. I'm personally waiting till October and thats when I'm buying my Elite. In the meantime I'm gonna get some games and accessories.

But of course it's your choice so buy it next month if you want.

I've chosen to wait.

I too recently had to use my Best Buy replacement plan for my XBOX 360.

Mt friend works there, so I got a little inside info.

The plan is called a "product replacement plan" and is approx $40.

All items that have a product replacement plan are not serviced at all. They are also NOT exhcanged in store. The reason they do not exchange them in store is because the in store people used to not even check if the item was broken, and just give the customer a new product. The store lost lots of money like that.

So now, all product replacement plan items must be sent away. You are supposed to call 1 888 BEST BUY, and they give you all the info needed to ship out the xbox 360. They give you an addressed/stamped paper so you do not have to pay for shipping.

You ship the 360 to them with all the originall accesories, and they evaluate it and make sure the system is infact "broken".

They then issue you a credit vouchure in the form of a Best Buy "Store Credit" or gift card for the total price of a new xbox 360 with tax included.

At that point, once they issue you the "Store Credit/Gift Card", your Replacement Plan is considered fullfilled.

This means that when you get your new xbox 360 (not used or refurbished), you will need to buy a new replacement plan as it is now expired.

As I said... I recently did this with no issues. I now have a new, not refurbished xbox 360.

krazedj1

Dude how did you only pay $40 for a PRP, when I called today and they cost $80 bucks?

I couldint really understand anything. What does Heatsink mean anyway?

Kizzle28

Heatsink means something that reduces the heat. In this case it means a chip that reduces the heat in your console.

To be more accurate, the heatsink is the part that funnels heat away from the processors and GPU. The 'Falcon' project is the new 65 nm processor for the 360. It is smaller, more energy efficient, much cooler, and costs much less than the 90 nm used in current 360's. The extra heatsinks have already been added to current 360 consoles, but the 65nm chip won't be in 360's until fall this year.

I thought this was common knowledge by now?

Mark October on your calanders people as that should be the logical release date. I don't think we will have to wait any longer than that.

My elite just died and i had only had it for 3 months. I babied it too, never moved it or anything and always had it laying down. It would start freezing with a static hiss noise, and after a couple of times it even did that on the main xbox logo when the system turns on. Eventually it just wouldnt come on and i got the ring of red. When i called xbox tho they said they were even refunding people who paid to have that fixed. They also told me it would take 4 to 6 weeks for my system to be returned to me. Im kinda pissed lolvashtheforsaken

You should have waited for the 65nm chip to be installed before buying it. Well like I said I feel alot better about the Elite, with this new chip being installed in them come this fall. Right now there is no need to rush into buying any 360 even the Elite as they contain the above problems.

My money won't leave my wallet till that chip gets installed and that will be the best buy!

I don't get it so they are making crappy cases for the games then?

Exactly how hard is it to pull the cd away from the 360 game case. Because on the Xbox game case you just push the button in the middle and take your game outta the case. Simple and easy.

So you guys are saying that now I gotta worry about cracking from the center???

Jeez how many warranties must one get. As I imagine getting game insurance isn't cheap.

zidan4000

yeah some cases are really bad, i really have hard time getting my forza2 out of the case , just dont forget to say a prayer before you get your game out of its case.

We'll I'd probably break the case in order to get my game out safe and snug. The last time I encountered a crappy case was with my Star Trek dvd cases. Jeez those were the worst cases that I have ever seen, I practically had the pull on the cd to get it out. But I did the smart thing and bought jewel cases and put all the cd's in them. So it's all good now.

Zidian why don't you buy Jewel cases too? I mean then you won't have to worry about yanking on your cd's. True they won't look as nice as when they're in the green case. But its seems like a better idea.
