Also in 2008, (now former) Kojima Productions assistant producer Ryan Payton said MGS5 could take the form of a prequel. "I'm happy we could wrap up Snake's story in MGS4," Payton stated, "because it gets to the point where if we continue on with Metal Gear Solid 5 with more Solid Snake adventures, we'll get to the point where the game has absolutely no basis in reality. I do like the idea that this character has had four or five big missions and then that's when it ended, rather than have 20 missions where there's no chance in hell a secret agent could ever survive. He's had four or five really big missions, and that seems a little more realistic to me."

Ask why he reviews games based on his own experience rather than just giving the scores everyone assumes a game will get.WithoutGraceXII

[QUOTE="GeneralShowzer"]Can someone explain what all the fuss is about? Did Tom play the game wrong, or he just made a typpo in the review?

more like a typo in review, i dont know. But does the game have different method of control?

[QUOTE="ohthemanatee"]because a 7.5 is very far from an 8.0 game?R4gn4r0k

In system wars:

8: barely worth playing

< 8: completely not worth your time

Sad thing is.. it also happen in real life, not just system wars (not saying everyone in real life)

For the lulz

SW__Troll

Those two games have very drastically different sets of reviewers. It's not right to compare the opinions to each other.

i guess you dunno the meaning of "for the lulz"?

It really seems like reviewers either love this game, or are Tom McShea. His biggest gripe seemed to be control, so maybe he just really dislikes motion control.

Sgt_Crow
I think he has a broken controller.

TomMcShea GameSpot staff member Posted Nov 17, 2011 1:10 am GMT @seiferdante1000, Nah, we have two copies of the game on two different television using two different controllers... you get the point. Faulty hardware is not to blame.

Im sorry ninty fans but .. WAGGLE FTW! # TomMcShea GameSpot staff member Posted Nov 17, 2011 12:42 am GMT @metzgerr, I have no idea why other reviewers would say you can't waggle to victory, but you can clearly see in my video review that I was just shaking the controller to win.

doc-brown GameSpot staff member Posted Nov 17, 2011 1:04 am GMT I'm the new Game Guide Editor at GameSpot, and I'm currently working on the guide for Skyward Sword. I've witnessed many of Tom's frustrations first hand. I've experienced many of the same headaches during my time with the game, although to a (marginally) lesser extent. Both of us are decidedly rabid Nintendo fans and both of us felt disappointed with many aspects in Skyward Sword, not just compared to other Zelda titles, but as a game based solely on its particular merits. The game is tragically predictable at times. The controls leave MUCH to be desired. They work ~ 80% of the time, but the remaining 20% is frustrating as hell. Skyward Sword is padded, padded, padded! If fetch quests and revisiting areas again and again is your thing, maybe you'll appreciate those sections more than we did. We both wanted to love the game. In ways, we do, but it isn't enough to whitewash over the problems that plagued what could have been the best chapter in the series. Our wishes don't always come true, and sometimes we have to face the facts. In my eyes, as an action adventure game, Skyward Sword warrants a score of 8. This review represents Tom's experience with the game, and is based on decades of gaming experience. We would love to hear more from you all once you've had a chance to play it (extensively). I think you'll find many of Tom's criticisms are completely justified. Have a great day!
