People really dont understand how good classics are. they think since they are part of this generation of crap music they have to listen to it to be cool. Now, its hard to go back to great music since people have this standard of dumb electronic beats and pointless and emotionless lyrics.

BlizzardBear

hey man, broad generalizations sure are awesome!

A band like Modest Mouse has lyrics that are filled with emotion, moreso than quite a few classic rock bands. Bands like Brand New, Converge, Nine Inch Nails, and obviously many more have lyrics that are BETTER than classic rock lyrics.

Don't get me wrong, I like Classic Rock, but it just doesn't compare lyrics wise.

I don't really know a lot about post-hardcore, but would this kind of thing be what you're looking for? Though, it's not exactly post-hardcore. :? jaydough

The band that Omar and Cedric were in before The Mars Volta were a Post-Hardcore band. At The Drive-In.

Props for recommending The Mars Volta, though. It made me realize that I really haven't listened to them in the past few weeks.

Okay, if by 'old' you mean before the 00s, then yeah, I'd say I listen to more 'old' music than 'new'. But if you mean 'old' as before the 90s, then I listen to more 'new' music than 'old'.

I have no preference, though.

I'm not too far into the hip-hop genre, but one of my favorites so far is The Roots.

I don't know, I actually LIKE metal vocals. They're one of the main reasons I listen to metal.

Seriously, I do. Some people don't, but I love them.

[QUOTE="Ceneb"]I find it sad that not one hip-hop album made it to the top 10, but it's also sad that I agree that it shouldn't be.DivergeUnify
If only Black on Both Sides had come out a year later

Or Things Fall Apart, for that matter.

[QUOTE="Saturos3091"]

The Casualties and Rancid are the correct answers.

Saturos3091

Yeah man, The Casualties are pretty awesome, and so's Rancid, but Dear Landlord is better than either of them.

Haven't listened to them. I'm not a big punk fan. :P I'll check 'em out.

Alright, awesome. TBH they aren't very 'hardcore' or whatever, but man, they are THE greatest 'pop' punk band I've ever heard.

Hip answer: Gang of Four.

[QUOTE="Wae416"]

Not to me. Punk is something like The Clash, Sex Pistols, etc. The only real band that's come out in the past 20 years that I consider punk is Dear Landlord, and even they are a poppunk variant.

Okknull

I think you should expose yourself to more punk, because it was way more expansive and interesting than the ****ing Clash or Sex Pistols.

Nah man, the etc. was meant to cover that. Oh course it was way more expansive, but not only did I want to use some mainstream examples that the person could recognize, but tbh, I'm not all that deep into punk.
