The notion that a FFVII remake won't be good for the PS3 is completely foolish. Whether or not people hate the FF series and couldn't less about a remake or think that all time and money should be spent on advancements and all new games...the fact is that Final Fantasy is one of the biggest franchises in gaming history and VII is one of its crowning achievements. A remake would spark an explosion of PS3 sales across the world. I know at least a dozen guys on my floor here and a dozen more back home who would buy a PS3 even if a FFVII remake was the only game they bought with it. Call it stupidity, but a FFVII remake would be incredibly profitable and satisfy the hordes of gamers waiting for a remake, plain and simple.

I myself would love nothing more than to play VII next gen.

At this point I'd be very doubtful that it's anything Square Enix-related, given how tied up they are with the FFXIII games. Though for me a next-gen rendition of FFVII would be the holy grail of video games. My old PS1 version runs so horribly on my PS3 that I hope they re-release it somehow.

My guess would be some kind of big Japanese RPG.

The ONLY things I would want to see are fully next-gan graphics and better translation. That's it. No changes to the story whatsoever, no voice acting, no added or lost gameplay or plot. If they remake VII I want to play FFVII only with next-gen specs. I don't want to play VII-2.

But most of all, I don't want the battle system changed. Random encounters, turn-based battles, limit breaks, and materia MUST stay the same. As long as the plot and battle system are preserved I could probably live with the voice acting used in Advent Children.

you have to look at the bright side. Lair and Heavenly Sword may not have gotten the greatest reviews but both are selling well right now. Plus the PS3 has several games coming up that will give the 360 a run for its money. The exclusive HD DVD parts don't make a whole lot of difference, since it is a gaming console before a video player after all. UT3 might be delayed, it isn't certain yet. Either way, it's still a definite near release, and the PS3 is its lead console. I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be the PS3's Gears of War.

And when all is said and done, MGS4 and future Final Fantasy games are major console sellers.

Makes sense to me. Even if a game is excellent, wouldn't it be serverely hampered by such a small time to enjoy it?

And I don't know what kind of clock you run on, but Gears of War is at least twice that length.
